When I create a new layer by placing an image from another file and then try to edit it (like removing the background from an image) I keep getting this message, "Could not complete your request because the smart object is not directly editable."
The message reads "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created." I am using AutoCad Civil 3D 2011.
I'm currently working on a mock up for a product design, a box container to be precise,And I want one smart object layer to cover both the front and the side, so you can seamlessly design the front and side of the box.
Sadly I haven't found a good way to do this, thought i would be able to with warp but I can't get straight corners with it,
I was messing around in CS6 and accidentally selected "conver to smart object" on one of the layers. So now with layering multiple layers, I can't just select the areas once and use Gaussian blur. I would need to keep re-selecting all the areas for ALL the textures. It's because the layers have become smart objects.  How can I undo my layers being smart objects? I want to just have the regular layers and only want to use the same selection (with the lasso tool) once to erase multiple layers of textures I don't want?  Here is an image so you can see what I am talking about. I don't want ANY smart layers on there. I Just want to do gaussian blur on the layers themselves.Â
Is it possible to convert a layer to a smart object, and then (if desired) have each smart filter have its own filter mask?In the past, I've gotten around this by embedding smart objects within one another, but I'm wondering if there's been any progress made on this issue since CS3.
1. Is there a way for masking each smart filter separately on a single smart object other than nesting one smart object into the another? 2. Is there a way for removing the previously created smart object?
I mean ... let's say I have a smart object containing four layers. Can I remove smart object from these layers?
I'm running photoshop cs3. I created two different smart objects. Within each of those smart objects, I want to include another smart object. However, when I update the embedded smart object, only the partent SO is updated, the other SO seems to have a different child. here is the setup visually: canvas -> SO1 -> SO3canvas -> SO2 -> SO3 so when I update SO3 from within SO1, only SO1 is updated - SO2 stays the same.
Ps CS6 OSX 10.6.8  Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.  I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.  A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.  In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.
I render 3d object from raster and smart object (extrusion) Each time i do the edge where the extrusion meets the front inflation material is slightly distorted. Should be a smooth line.
I made a wax seal on Photoshop with a lot of embossment, bedevilment and a Smart Filter. It's done and I just need to make it smaller so it fits well on my certificate. When I resize it (Ctr + T) It pops up a message that reads: ______________________________________________ Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended  "Smart Filters applied to layers contained in this group will be turned off temporarily while the transform is being previewed. They will be applied after committing the transform."  OK  [] Don't show again ______________________________________________  I click OK and I re-size the layer with free transform, and then hit enter. The Layer is resized but my Smart Filter which creates a wavy affect around the seal is totally distorted.  How do re-size my layer with smart filter without affecting the smart filter aspect of the layer.
I use to copy over a layer into a file. as a smart object, transform it. Then if I needed to replace the image. I would double click and the contents would open as a .psb file. I could then replace the image and save it and it was updated in the main comp file. Â Now, if I double click I just get Camera Raw? If I choice edit SO same thing. Replace content lets me choose another file, but I don't have the open .psb which I could work on before saving it back. Â What am I doing wrong now to not get the .psb to open and edit?
I embed a few raw files as smart objects when preparing pages for wedding albums. When I edit those smart objects (resize, move, etc) both my systems have 3 or 4 second lags with each change. Â The more powerful system is: Â Core 2 Quad @ 2.4GHz 4GB ram Windows 8 HD7790 OC 1GB graphics board
A file with smart objects. Whe I double click on the icon of the smart object a new filke opens with te content of the smat object. Â After editing I choose to close and CC asks if I want to save the file. This is exactly like CS6 does but now in CC I am aked for a place on disk to save and the content of the original file is not updated. Is this normal behaviour or am I missing something?
If I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.
i noticed importing an image file from adobe illustrator into photoshop through copy and paste. but i dont have illustrator on my pc. is there a way to turn a layer or an image into a smart object without using the bridge feature they have now in CS2?
in cs2, i use smart object lot to replace image i mean i have to make collection of gallery of let's say mp3 albums so i have to put albums covers in my designs but exactly as i wanted in size {no matter whatever size/resolution the source (album cover) are} so smart objects always be the easiest way cos i firstly draw rectangulers in my custum size, and i covert each rectangulers to smart objects and replace every smart objects to place those albums covers. it's easiest way and since cs3 is launched, when i try to replace image of smart objects my replaced image(album cover) wont be as equal as my custum rectanguler size. this is my prob. when i place the images either they are placed bigger size than the size of smart object or smaller than smart object . can is there any process to make as shame size as smart object while placing images to smart object??? in cs2 it's possible but cs3 cs4 can't do such smart object or i'm a missing any new technique to do that? ya we can resize each placed covers to our custom size but it takes hell long time . i need shortcut way. wel in cs2 i been doin things like this using smart object which takes only 2 min to put images in my custom sized rectangular
I am trying to open a RAW photo in Photoshop CS5 as a Smart Object. I have the photo selected in Bridge. When I go to execute File>Place in Bridge CS5 the menu entry indicates there should be a menu displayed. However, clicking on Place does not bring up a menu.  In Photoshop there is open a blank file to receive the photo. Why do I not receive a menu?
I'm having aliasing issue with my smart objects in CS6 I never had before. I've searched all over PS and these forums to try and figure out how to get rid of the jaggies, with no luck. Below is a screenshot example of a SO with the aliasing (I'm trying to reconstruct a dresser top).
I have a smart object, and, If I apply Control "J" Â Â Or Drag It to the New Layer Icon, It will Duplicate the Layer. And If I Go to Layer-Smart Objects- New Object Via Copy, It dose the same thing. What Is the Different between Control J, or Go to Layer- Smart Objects- New Smart Object Via Copy.
Often after making vectro pictures in illustrator i use exporting to Photoshop like a SO. But i can't realize, why after exporting some elements like a blur or transparent mask is losing?
I working on the Photoshop with Smart Object with link to Illustrator. How can i transform perspective for Smart Object in Photoshop? There are accessible to me only Scale Rotate and Skew, others is gray out.
I was playing around with some images that I changed into Smart Object, and I noticed when you shrink the Images to a very small size, and later Transform It back to a bigger size, the quality dose not change,,Even when I saved them and opened them later on. But It dose not work with saving the Smart Object into JPG.
Is there a way to get Smart Objects to work on a different disc besides your Startup on a Mac? I'd like to set up a stand-alone SSD to handle all Smart Object operations. Currently, I'm getting the "Start-up disc is almost full" warning a little too often. It even crashed PS one time. I know you can change the Scratch Disc very easily, but I don't see any way to change how Smart Objects are handled.
I have a 'base' file A, with two (different) smart objects B and C. Now I want B and C to both contain a third smart object D, and I can't get that to work.
I can place the same file as a smart object in B and C, but it becomes two different smart objects, which are seperately editable. I would like to be able to edit smart object D and the changes to be visible in both B and C and in turn in A. Â Is this at all possible? Btw working in photoshop CS5
I was told to double click the layers window and a new editable window would pop up...but only the FX window pops up. I've also tried the "edit Content" choice but that erases the smart object..
