Illustrator :: File Saved As Small PDF Changes Type Point Size And Vertical Scaling
Oct 8, 2013I have an Adobe Illustrator CS6 document with body copy set using 6.5 pt. Helvetica Neue LT Std. - Bold Condensed & Light Condensed.
After saving the file as a PDF in Illustrator using the [Smallest File Size] setting, closing the file, and opening the newly saved PDF in Illustrator - the 6.5 pt. text is now 5.53 pt. with a vertical scaling of 117.65%.
This PDF is for client review purposes - on screen or laser print - not for reproduction. We try to keep the file size as small as possible to make downloading and e-mail attachments manageable.
In this case, my client is opening the PDF in Illustrator to double-check the text point sizes for legal & regulatory purposes.
If I save the same Illustrator file as a PDF using other settings like [High Quality Print], the text size is unchanged.
I was able to repeat the issue using Helvetica LT Std in place of Helvetica Neue LT Std.

Photoshop :: Layer Control And EPS File Size
Jun 12, 2012I have a black/white linedrawing, TIFF, where I needed to replace som texts. I saved it as PSD, lassoed the texts, erased them and inserted the new texts in about 20 different places.
The text size is only about 6 pt., and the whole drawing isn´t more than about 14 by 14 centimeters. In the PSD file all the changes now appear in separate layers (with the background drawing at the bottom, see inserted .png) one for each erased bit of text, whereas I thought it would be convenient to have all in one layer.
How does this influence the filesize, and how do I combine all new texts in one layer, if that takes up less space? Layer 3-5 doesn´t seem to serve any purpose, how does one see what´s actually in a layer? I also need to save the file as EPS, and doing so the filesize goes from 3,4Mb in PSD to 45Mb in EPS. What are the possibilities of minimizing this EPS-file?

I don't get it.
Isn't the whole point of adjustment layers is that unlike duping the bg layer you save space on your hardrive.

case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k
case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k
Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?

May 3, 2013>ap alterations. I have collected many (over 100k) screeenshots of census data. In the interest of not using the actual captures (intelectual property restrictions), I have extracted the data alone to a new multi layered file with each address as its own layer. Some have 1 person, some have 200 people.
Can I export each layer to file in such a way that the canvas will not be the 75 inch canvas in the parent image? I needed to use such a large transparent background because population density is very high. Is ther an autodetect feature?

Dec 13, 2012If I transform a type with the transform tool or "command t" the font size displayed when highlighted doesn't update to larger font size. If the layer is selected the correct font size is displayed. I updated a coworkers's photoshop and he experienced the same issue.

Jan 7, 2011I recently bought a double-layer DVD burner and attempted to burn a DVD of a 2 hour home movie in Ulead VideoStudio 9, but have been unable to do so. I can burn it if I shrink the compression, but I don't want to lose quality - which is why I got the double layer burner in the first place. I know it's an older program, but I didn't think I would have so many problems trying to the double-layer disc to work. I have downloaded the upgrade patch for dual-layer burning from the web, but it still hasn't worked. When I burned just the image file (.iso) and tried to use another program to burn the disc, I noticed that it didn't finish saving the entire movie - it stopped when the file size reached 4.2 GB - which is right at the max for a single layer disc. How can I change the settings so the .iso image file will continue working/saving past the 4.2 GB since I can get close to 8 GB on a double layer disc? I'm missing about the last 10 minutes of my video - I need around 5.0 GB for the full movie.

Aug 24, 2005Does anyone know how (or if its possible) to scale a layer with layer effects (scaling the layer effects settings as well)?? My problem is I have a logo with multiple layer effects done to it. I now need to transfer that logo onto other sized documents. When I do that and try to scale it all of my settings do not scale with it. ie. a 5pt stroke effect on the logo stays at 5pt even though the logo is now huge! I can not rasterize the layer, I need to keep the sharpness for high end printing.

Jul 16, 2013how would I go about applying content aware scaling to a video layer inside PS? Basically I'm trying to use this feature to fake an aspect ratio change where by I have a subject surrounded by a relatively uniform background and I would like to be able to create a protection mask as an alpha layer and have photoshop apply the content aware scaling only to the background(to fill in the empty parts of the rescaled video) and leave the subject untouched.
What I've done is opened a video in photoshop as a layer, created an alpha channel to represent the subject(subject is white, background is black on the created alpha channel), changed the canvas size to the new aspect ratio which obviously created a tranparent frame around the original video frame. I then tried to apply content aware scaling to the video, it converted the layer to a smart object then displayed the free transform handles. However, when I selected my alpha channel as the protection area, the content aware scaling seemed to ignore it and went on to distort the entire frame. Now I tried this with still frame from the same video with the same mask/alpha channel and it worked as expected just didn't seem to do it with video.
The idea, if it would be possible to do this in PS, is to rotoscope the subject roughly in AE and generate a matte pass which can then be used as the accompanying alpha layer of the video so then the content aware scaling can be applied to each invidividual frame.
3ds Max :: Scaling Size Of UV Editor
Jul 4, 2012Ive never done a UV unwrap before. I have the polies i want peeled and stuff, and it looks accurate. However in the UV editor, the unwrap of the polies is too large..I want to scale up the checkered part of the UV editor, is there any way to do this? im kinda lost as to whether im supposed to scale that up or scale down the unwrap.

Aug 16, 2012When resizing a layer with a layer mask and using any bicubic method, the layer maks scales 1 pixel differently from the other layers. Is this normal due to some component of bicubic interpolation or is it a bug?
Try the following:
Create a new image in Photoshop at 800 px x 800 px
Leave the locked BG layer and create a new layer
Fill the new layer with green (or your favorite color)
Add a layer mask to the green layer and fill the mask with black (via Fill with foreground color or Alt+Del) to completely remove any visible green from your document
Now use Image-> Image Size (Opt+Cmd+I) to resize your document using any bicubic scaling method. Resize to 600 px by 600 px.
Now zoom in on the document's edge at the pixel level. Is it completely white as it should be?In my case, no. However, if I use 'nearest neighbor' interpolation method when scaling, I do get a solid white edge. Even more strange, if I fill the layer mask with black by inverting it rather than filling it the problem does not happen.

I'm working on a technical drawing with several imported layers and fairly high resolution (600 dpi). All areas of each layer must precisely register with corresponding points on the other layers. However, as they were imported, there were several pixels difference between them. If I zoom out to the window, I see the scaling handles at the edges and can move any side or corner to rescale the layer, but the resolution is too low to see the image well enough to place it precisely. If I zoom in, I no longer can access the scaling handles.
I would like to zoom in to one corner of the image and align all the layers, then go to the opposite corner, zoom in, and adjust that corner into alignment without changing the first corner.

Is there anyway to blow all the text values up at once without moving them from their positions with relation to the boundaries of the roads and buildings? Here is a screenshot of the view with CAD...this is a small area of the entire scheme and those little black smudges are the numbers i need to scale

I guess in a 3D program this would be equivalent to having the pivot point located in the centre of each set of numbers so you could scale them using the centre of each number as its scale point but I am stumped by how to do this in Autocad Architecture 2011..
AutoCAD 2010 :: Practicad Text Size Not Scaling Properly
Oct 5, 2012When I xref a drawing created by Practicad into my host drawing, the text size shows up less than half its normal size. This occurs regardless of choosing or not choosing any of the radio button options in the proxy info box that pops up when I open the drawing. It happens on both my desktop and laptop. Practicad (MetaLab Inc.) web-x'd into my computer and confirmed the enabler is installed and the issue has noyhing to do with them. My host drawing scale is set to the same scale as the xref.

Feb 21, 2014New Responsive Scaling feature is great.
It's enabled me to add an Edge Animate file to my responsive Wordpress site using the Edge Suite Plugin.
Only problem for me is that although the 3.7MB file I’ve created scales perfectly on all devices it struggles to play on smartphones. (I assume it's too big and too power hungry to play smoothly on smartphones - even since I've added a pre-loader.)
So, in an ideal world, what I need is a separate low res Edge Animate file that only plays on smartphones.
Failing that, I’d be happy with a 'Down-level Stage' image which could replace the Edge Animate animation.

Unfortunately this clever solution only works when the new Responsive Scaling feature is NOT selected. As soon as it is selected, the animation no longer changes from one layout size to another when the browser window is reduced.
I don’t mind whether the fix is in Edge Animate, Wordpress or the Edge Suite Plugin - I just want a solution!

Aug 7, 2013I am using ACAD 2005 and am trying to copy&paste several objects from a layer I created in one .dxf file to one of the 2 standard layers (0 or Defpoints) in a new blank .dxf file.
My problem though is that if I copy and paste all of the objects (or even one of them) and them move to the new file and paste, it pastes the objects, but also "imports" into the new file the original file's layer that these objects were on.
For clarity, the new file only has the 2 standard layers and then after copy/pasting an object, the file manager shows the 3rd layer from the original file.

May 14, 2003Can someone please explain to me about file sizes and image dimensions. I have to put together a collage which is 165mm high by 258mm wide. If I click file new and choose default resolution (72) then the file size is ok, if I type in 300 dpi the image becomes huge.
If i chosse 300 dpi then the images I was going to use seem tiny on such a vast workspace - Im confused why does the canvas become so large when changing resolution?
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Connecting To SHP File Data / Scaling / Units
Sep 12, 2012So have a university campus map that was drawin in normal AutoCAD with no coordinate system. I am trying to geo-regefernce it. I was able to get ahold to a SHP file of the campus buidings from another entity on campus that have field verfied coordinates of all the buildings and drawn them in ArcGIS. What I would like to do is connect to the shape file and then move my CAD map "on top" of the shape file buildings and do any adjustments I might need. Then my CAD map would be "geo-referenced".
My problem is that when I connect to the shape file the building in the shape file are 1/12 the size of the CAD drawn buildings. I am assuming that this is because the CAD buiding were drawn as 1 unit = 1" whereas the SHP buildings were drawn as 1 unit = 1'.
I can scale down my CAD building by 1/12 .
Photoshop :: Image Size Vs File Size
Apr 29, 2009 When I save a file to jpeg the image size in photoshop remains the same as it was as a tiff file BUT according to the information that comes up in windows properties the file is much smaller (300k vs 2.9mg).  Can you advise me which is the correct file size?  If the correct size is the one showing in windows (300K) does mean that the file compressed in JPG and lost a lot of information?
 and if this is the case how can I prevent that from happening and still save the file as a JPG?  [ I would like the image to remain the size photoshop shows it to be] . Thank you very much.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Info On Scaling Utm Shape File To Read In Meters Or Feet
Oct 19, 2011I imported a shape file drawn with a utm signature with the dbf and shx files associated with it.The field map looks exactly like it is supposed to but when i dimension different places the dim are in what i think are utm measurements( ie .0069).When i draw a line at say 200 feet the line is astronomical in comparison. I can't seem to figure out where to change the scale.I have never used the auto map before and am using the trial version.
