I recently bought a double-layer DVD burner and attempted to burn a DVD of a 2 hour home movie in Ulead VideoStudio 9, but have been unable to do so. I can burn it if I shrink the compression, but I don't want to lose quality - which is why I got the double layer burner in the first place. I know it's an older program, but I didn't think I would have so many problems trying to the double-layer disc to work. I have downloaded the upgrade patch for dual-layer burning from the web, but it still hasn't worked. When I burned just the image file (.iso) and tried to use another program to burn the disc, I noticed that it didn't finish saving the entire movie - it stopped when the file size reached 4.2 GB - which is right at the max for a single layer disc. How can I change the settings so the .iso image file will continue working/saving past the 4.2 GB since I can get close to 8 GB on a double layer disc? I'm missing about the last 10 minutes of my video - I need around 5.0 GB for the full movie.
When trying to attain a specific size for a JPEG image (60MB) I adjusted the image size by cropping the image to 8"x10", and changing the DPI to 450.
The image size window indicated that the file size was at 60 MB, which was the correct size that we wanted for the file.
After saving, the file size was way below the size indicated on the original image size (when the file was open). Upon reopening and looking at the file size, it indicated that it was still 60 MB.
I had done this same process with roughly 50 files and all of the sizes came up different (ranging from 6 MB-64 MB).
I also saved the images as PDFs after making some adjustments to the JPEG files, but the same problem of the file size changing still came up.
Does anyone know what would cause the image size to change so much?
If I open a jpg file and draw a single line just a few pixels long, when I save the file it doubles in size (as in disk space, not pixels). How can I prevent that from happening.
I have some TIFF files I need to do some adjustments on. Mostly darkening the sky. Where the sky meets the foreground it is made up of tops of Spruce Trees. Â My question is, can/should I use the adjustment brush in Lightroom to do this, or should I make a layer in Photoshop to do this? Â I have found that when using the adjustment brush over the tops of Spruce trees, it is best to just paint over the whole thing, or else it will look artificial. Not sure if doing this in Photoshop would make my life easier?
What I want to do is to have an adjustment layer that is a reversed, black and white image. I initially thought to merge B&W and reverse adjustment layers, but read that an adjustment layer may not be the target of a merge. Is the way to accomplish this to fiddle with the B&W adjustment layer sliders somehow?  I like how the black and white displayed image of a given color channel looks, how can I export that channel into a layer?
I use a lot of adjustment layers and they're often applied to the previous layer. Is there a keyboard shortcut to automatically "Use pervious layer as clipping mask" without going through the dialogue box or manually applying in the layers palette(Option-click between layers)?
I have a black/white linedrawing, TIFF, where I needed to replace som texts. I saved it as PSD, lassoed the texts, erased them and inserted the new texts in about 20 different places.
The text size is only about 6 pt., and the whole drawing isn´t more than about 14 by 14 centimeters. In the PSD file all the changes now appear in separate layers (with the background drawing at the bottom, see inserted .png) one for each erased bit of text, whereas I thought it would be convenient to have all in one layer.
How does this influence the filesize, and how do I combine all new texts in one layer, if that takes up less space? Layer 3-5 doesn´t seem to serve any purpose, how does one see what´s actually in a layer? I also need to save the file as EPS, and doing so the filesize goes from 3,4Mb in PSD to 45Mb in EPS. What are the possibilities of minimizing this EPS-file?  Â
I'm familiar with adjustment layers and clipping masks, but am wondering if there's a way to have an adjustment layer affect a group of layers below it, but not all of them. (Usually you have a choice of having it affect either JUST the layer beneath it (through a clipping mask), or ALL of the layers beneath it.
When you open an image with adjustment layers, what determines what is selected, the background or the adjustment layer? It seems sometimes it's one or the other, and I don't know the logic. Personally I would prefer that the image always opens with the background layer selected.
I have noticed in Photoshop CS5.1 and CS6 strange behaviour when saving for web file as PNG-24.  case1.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and layer mask hide selection (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 131.4k  case2.I have one layer photo 260x360.Create Marquee square 200x200 and delete pixels (effect: transparent square hole inside)save for web as PNG-24 (transparency on)-> file size 66.93k  Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?
I'm new to Paint shop. Is it possible to clip an adjustment layer or image to just the layer below it like in Photoshop? Or maybe Paint shop calls it something else?
>ap alterations. I have collected many (over 100k) screeenshots of census data. In the interest of not using the actual captures (intelectual property restrictions), I have extracted the data alone to a new multi layered file with each address as its own layer. Some have 1 person, some have 200 people.
Can I export each layer to file in such a way that the canvas will not be the 75 inch canvas in the parent image? I needed to use such a large transparent background because population density is very high. Is ther an autodetect feature?
I'm working in Photoshop CS5. I have several layers, and only want to make an adjustment to the top layer. I don't have an clip icon on the bottom of the layers pallete either, what should I do...
Tif files when cropped and save as, seem to double in size. The crop tool is set at Unconstrained and the value boxes are empty. Â e.g - Original 16bit Tif was 228.96 MB, 7304px x 5478px @ 300dpi, once cropped down to 7304px x 2390px @ 300dpi and saved as becomes 405.21 MB. Â Using photoshop CS6 extended and OSX 10.7.4.
i get a 1 pixel size image when I double click the zoom for 100%.Fit screen or full screen is wacky too, not fitting or filling and sometimes going way beyond.Â
Im creating a layout in CMYK and have a brigthness/contrast layer above my artwork. Once I merge the layers together (save it as TIFF) the contrast is not the same and I cant get the same color/contrast effect when I do it in flattened image. Any ideas how to solve this problem?I was thinking of taking screenshots of the "pre-merged" layout and putting it together but its a rather large file...
I am doing a Total Training class on CS4 PhotoShop. In the section on Learning about Layers I have opened two jpg files.
I double-clicked on the Background Layer of the Statue jpg and changed the name to Statue. All worked okay.
I then selected the unwanted Background area and deleted it.
I then moved the Clouds jpg which created a new Layer. When I double-clicked to change the Layer name to Clouds, the Layer box did not open but the Layer Style box opened.
I was only able to change the name of the Layer via the Layer Properties box.
In CS3, my workhorse editor until recently, when I double clicked an adjustment layer it opened up the initial settings window. There I was able to tab browse through the variables, make whatever adjustments I wanted, hit enter, and live happily ever after. I haven't been able to figure out how do do this in CS6, which has the 'properties' panel for making changes to adjustment layer settings. Â The question: Can CS6 be set to behave like CS3 in this respect?
Using CS6, try to open a curves adjustment layer...the way I have for years...levels opens. Will not correct. Have to close the app and reopen. Impossible to find on internet. What's up?
1) I'm not clear about when I should use an ordinary "new layer" and when an "adjustment layer"; are there instances when either will work and others when only one will; and
2) I think I've come across something funny about using an opacity setting: Say I've used one of the brush tools and, then, toned things down by lowering the opacity. I then go on to save the photo and quit PE. Well, when I open that photo again, the opacity comes already set as it was before. I find this confusing, especially if I go on to do something else involving opacity. Somehow it makes more sense to me to always begin fresh at "100%".
I'm almost finished with a project, but like always at the end something has to go wrong.
So I'm trying to make this sort of portal (based on a videogame).
I got the portal like I want it to be, but when I link the Color Balance effect to the Portal layer (so that it only effects that layer) the color just disappears, leaving me with a white portal.
But it needs to be done, otherwise it effects my other layers to and turn everything red.
When I link layers this happens:
But if I don't, it of course turns everything red:
Just upgraded CS6 to CC and really enjoy a lot of the changes but there seems to be a bug with the adjustment layer curves (not regular curves). Â If I make a change to the curve using modification point and then toggle "undo", the preview of the image will toggle on and off with the change but the modification point does not reset. This point stays in the original position even if the curves are not in effect and will only reset when another layer is selected before returning back to these curves. Â One must also manually reset the point if you wanted to revert back to the original (instead of undo) because if you place another modification point on the curve it will revert back to the change you made earlier.
