Photoshop :: Rescale A Pixel Mask?
Dec 17, 2012
I am working on a tut and it calls for the use of a Pixel Mask.However, once I get through it I plan to use the resulting image at various sizes.I am creating the image w/a canvas size of 425px by 200px and the object itself is roughly 155px by 45px (give or take a pixel or so).
I then plan to scale it down to various sizes and so my question is will the Pixel Mask cause a problem with artifacts and interpolated bluriness?ie, will saving for the web at smaller sizes cause a problem with the clarity?

When you try to rescale a layer using the Rescale Tool with a layer mask active, it scales of the mask, likewise if you select the layer it will scale the layer. Can I select both the layer and layer mask and scale the layer, thus it keeps the layer mask showing the desired masked area only. As the only way I can see currently is by applying the layer mask on the layer and then you can see the layer/s below to get the scaling that is desired. But I would like to keep the layer mask active for editing after scaling.

In Classroom in a book for CS5 this is clearly explained and community fora make mention of pixel mask, but none actually step you through it. I can not find it in the properties panel.

I have a layer with a vector mask.
When I go to the properties panel, enter the feather radius „0.5“ and hit the enter key it rounds it up to 1 (Pixels).
Entering „0.4“ and hitting enter gives 0.
4.3 gives 4
4.6 gives 5
and so on.
So hitting enter rounds the value, although decimal values are accepted and do work. Why is that? What's the purpose of rounding the number?
When I enter „0.5“ and click somewhere it works without changing it to 1. Then it's really just 0.5 px. But hitting enter (the most natural thing after entering some value) rounds it.
Is this a feature or a flaw?

When resizing a layer with a layer mask and using any bicubic method, the layer maks scales 1 pixel differently from the other layers. Is this normal due to some component of bicubic interpolation or is it a bug?
Try the following:
Create a new image in Photoshop at 800 px x 800 px
Leave the locked BG layer and create a new layer
Fill the new layer with green (or your favorite color)
Add a layer mask to the green layer and fill the mask with black (via Fill with foreground color or Alt+Del) to completely remove any visible green from your document
Now use Image-> Image Size (Opt+Cmd+I) to resize your document using any bicubic scaling method. Resize to 600 px by 600 px.
Now zoom in on the document's edge at the pixel level. Is it completely white as it should be?In my case, no. However, if I use 'nearest neighbor' interpolation method when scaling, I do get a solid white edge. Even more strange, if I fill the layer mask with black by inverting it rather than filling it the problem does not happen.

I have a question about selections in PP.
Why when I make a path for example and make a selection from it every time the selection is 1 pixel wider then the path. I'm used to it with Photoshop and it's very precise even you use the lasso tool and paths. But here I can't understand the logic in that 1 pixel more. Every time I make a selection I have to reduce the size of the selection with 1 pixel and that is very uncomfortable.

I have two art objects on two layers. I want to match to the pixel the two objects that otherwise could be exactly the same but one layered object was imported slightly smaller.
The scale tool has good scale handling, I just want to measure the tool spots to the pixel to gain an exact scale size factor and match sizes.

It blows my mind that somthing this simple isnt all that simple. I used the eyedropper tool to slect a color from another photo, then used the brush while fully magnified to change the color of each pixel.
It was coming out a weird greyish color, and I noticed that if I clicked more than once, it got darker, but so did the pixels directly around the one i was editing. So, i copied both pictures, loaded them into paint, and went to town.
It worked, but then when i copied it back into photoshop, it had a black background (there was no background in the original pictures) around the sprite I was editing. I tried to use the magic wand tool to get rid of it, but it took parts of the sprite with it, so...
Is there any way that I can edit the color of a single pixel (or hell, even a group of pixels if they share the same exact color would be nice...preferred, even) accurately? If not, what program could I use that would keep the transparent background?

Say I have many rounds disks distributed in a square.
When I select them all and resize the "container" to a rectangle, I get the disks reshaped into ellipses.
How can I prevent this and maintain them round while resizing the container?

I'm coming from corel draw to autocad. I'll be making 2D templates for consturction. I make the molds so they're inside out. anyways... I'm a full newbie in acad so I had some questions
how do I scale the background so that it's not in hundreds of feet? I work with very small small. usually 96x48 inches. sometimes I'll draw circles with about radius of 100-300 but then will cut them to get only about 60 degrees of it...
How to rescale the background so it's within my range and not in a size that's meant to design a whole house?

Is it possible to "virtually" rescale layers in the Gimp? Or is this planned? Because it would be an awesome feature.
What I mean is this: When you "virtually" rescale a layer, everything behaves as if it were a normal layer rescale operation, but internally the GIMP remembers the original image size. This means if I change my mind later and want to resize again (make it bigger for example), I don't lose quality. Or is this maybe already be possible somehow and has evaded me?

I receive a 1 kilometer wall plane, because its so long the architect change the aspect ratio x10 times less the real length. Now to engineer it I need to rescale it to be 1 to 1.
If I use the method of converting it to a block by changing the X property, all the text goes massy.
I don’t know how to tackle it. Is there a way to rescale the geometry without effecting the text on the way? If I didn’t mention it….i need the text to be in the perspective position so I can’t just hide it.
I attach the file for a case

Discovered gimp tonight however I seem to be facing the same problem. I am creating a new logo for work, I will go through the details in a moment, but each time I increase the scale size and it visually increases on screen, when it prints it is the same small size. The origins of the image are from Microsoft Office through SmartArt, I created what was needed, took a print of the screen moved into paint to open then cropped and saved it as a jpg. I then dragged it into gimp. I should also mention that within the original SmartArt (it is a circle of 4 globes) there is another jpg of our logo. I just don't understand why it is not printing the larger image on my screen.

i create a pattern with the pattern maker, fill a square with the pattern swatch and rescale it, i always get thin lines inbetween the tiles. It is definately correctly aligned, and when i print it, you can see them too. I tried as well expanding the object, to enable "align to pixel grid" in the transform panel, I tried to uncross "anti-aliased artwork" under general preferences, i don't know what else I could do.

When I place this image over a light color background, it looks fine, but when I place it over a dark color background, the edge of the image looks very rough and dirty, I think it's because some of the anti alias from the original image, how can I make it a clean image without going to delete pixel by pixel?

We are developing an application using functionality of Gimp´s channel mixer with java.
Our problem is that we don’t Know how channel mix works exactly for transforming pixel by pixel in Java.
For example,
We have an image an do on it the next mix:
Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=0.0
Blue=0.0
For simulate that, we transform all pixels with Red Component *2 and 255 (maximum) if is greater.
Our problem is:
Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=60.0
Blue=0.0
How can I simulate that?

Two different plot settings (saved as page setups) will produce different results for exactly the same 34"x22" output. I have been bucking this problem since I started using AutoCAD C3D. I have a program to adjust the label scaling of my point labels so they are readable in both model space and layouts and when non-raster plotters are used, but now I must adapt it for other C3D labels before I can use them.
Below is my setup for plotting ANSI-D (34"x22") TIFF files at 288dpi. I have been using this plot device and setup almost exclusively since about 2001. The output is 9792 pixels x 6336 pixels which is set as a custom paper size to match my 288 dpi resolution (it is 288dpi because that is a multiple of 72dpi which is the default resolution of AutoCAD's TIFF raster output. It is 72dpi regardless of the fact that the plot scale is specified as 288 pixels = 1 unit or 288dpi). I must reset the dpi to 288 using image software so the resulting PDF will have a size of 34"x22" instead of 136"x88". You can see in the preview output I captured that their size difference cannot be attributed to these size differences. The plots are of the exact same layout showing point labels with only the page setup changed.

The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?

how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?

While creating various circular masks with a radial gradient from white to black, whenever I change the blending mode of the mask path Ai will throw me out of mask mode into layer editing mode. Since this is on a large document of ~2Gb file with multiple artbords for large poster & UI refresh speed is slow, this has become quite frustrating. Is this normal Ai behaviour?

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
