Photoshop :: Reducing Colors? (making Many Colours Fewer)
Jun 3, 2009
I've been working on some pictures that will be printed on T-shirts. The problem is that I've got alot of different color in the pictures which would result in a very expensive print. What I would want to be able to do is to reduce the colors in the pictures to only 4 specific colors (plus black and white). The colors must be very specific. for an example: "ff2600".
To be totally clear: I need the ALL the different types of yellow into be transformed to just one type of yellow.
So my question is am I able to do something like this in photoshop?

In images where there's flat colour (eg book & cd covers), how do you easily get rid of any unwanted noise, without making edges blurry, or resizing down?
Take this image below for example. It's essentially 5 flat colours. How do I remove the jpegging without blurring the colour edges any more than they are? (click to see full size, it doesn't look so bad squeezed down in a forum page)
I tried Filter > Noise >Reduce Noise with no luck. I thought Posterize would work but it's too harsh on the edges.

I'm an intermediate user and I've made a logo in PS CS2 and the printer told me that it was 6 colors and that I should reduce colors because of the expense of printing (on t-shirts).
how to reduce the number of colors in my image?

I created a new palette in gimp using my original RGB image (containing shades of yellow and black) which gave me about ~200 colors (with interval=2 in Import dialog). Then I changed the mode from RGB to Indexed using the palette I created above, but the resulting image contains only 2 colors - black and yellow. All the dark-greys, light-greys and different yellows are absent.
I want my indexed image to resemble the RGB as much as possible but the result looks disastrous.

When I mark a thumbnail in Organizer and click the Delete key, I get a new window, where I can click OK to delete it. But if I also want to delete it from my HD, I must first click in the small window and THEN click OK.Constructors who are able to think and not least to imagine the users need, would make three clickables:
Â
Cancel
Delete from album
Delete from album and fro, HD.
Â
Then you need only one click instead of two.
Â
Just a small thing, if you are sorting 400 pictures.

Using CS3
if it's possible to create a brush that uses two colors rather than one with transparency.. I know about the foreground/background color jitter within the brush options, but I need it so that when I paint using this brush it actually lays down two colors per "stroke".
Actually, I imagine what I'm trying to do would be considered cloning rather than brushing. I messed with the clone stamp tool a bit, but couldn't achieve the desired effect.
Lastly, this is what I'm trying to do:
I am trying to duplicate a large amount of dollar bills, and I want them scattered and at random angles.. something the brush dialog offers the right options for of course. Manually placing them and rotating is definitely not an option. When I paint them in using a custom brush, all the dollar bills I've painted in already show through because the white areas of my custom brush translate to transparency - the result is an indistinguishable mess of black.

Is there an option or a workaround that will eliminate the white boarders in a Corel trace? Â Whenever I do a trace, when I move the trace off the top of the original image, I see a white boarder around each color. Is there any way - when tracing - to tell Corel to use the fill color as the border color for each element of the trace? This would make the trace immediately usable without hand selecting each color cell.

I want to take a blue color and make some monochromatic colors out of it. Â
Â
1. I know how to add white/black through the brightness value in the color picker, though how do you add gray?
2. Are there some guidelines to how much white, black and gray you add to a color (in this case blue)or do you just pick any amount you like?

I'm working on making a really awesome pic but I'm stuck. The style I use in all of my pics is by making a new layer, changing it to color mode, then making rainbow colors with a really soft brush. Everything was going fine until I threw some text in there. Now when I paint, the text stays the same color!

i'm working on a job with 2 colours. I already did this using CMYK and setting 2 of them to 100% and the other 2 at 0%. But people who press these posters say me that they always have to convert the CMYK file to a 2 colours file. Is there a way to set my colours to 2 colours instead of 4?

For a website, my avatar must be less than 100px square and less than 30k of page weight. I'm having a terrible time doing this without the photo being a blurry mess once uploaded. The first two photos are relatively heavy because they've been edited, so I thought I'd try a photo that hasn't been messed with. I notice that even that photo, at 72ppi and 100px is still over 100k in weight. It will probably also be a mess

I have a .bmp file that is 20mb that I want to size down for ease of use with SketchUp.
The file is 3223x2200 pix
96 pix/inch
How would I do this without the image distorting radically?
I have only tried to resize the image by changing the width/height.

i'm just learning some basic 2d (i work mainly in 3d) and am in the middle of reducing/cropping some of my images so that they fit neatly on a web page. i have a couple of questions:
1. when i reduce (resample) an image, in the resample dialogue there is no easy way to just reduce by a given multiplier (e.g. 0.5) and at the same time, see what the resulting size will be.
for example - i have an image that is 2592*1944 pixels. i would like to be able to enter a multiplier and see what the resulting resolution would be /before/ i commit to the new size. this is possible in a very old version of corel photopaint that i have and so my first question is can this be done in photoshop or do i have to resize elsewhere?

I have a cybershot and have it set to 1280 x 960...Fine. The pictures look great but sometimes when I upload to walmart or shutterfly them become pixelated. Or when I use irfanview (PC only program) to resize to something smaller and pixelates them as well.
Should I change the camera settings, if so, to what? Should I use PS to resize them?

I want to reduce the colour levels in a picture to four, or limit the amount colours of an image to 4 colours.
I have many black and white images and I want to remove all but 4 scales of colour so that I have
White
Light Grey
Dark Grey
Black
The closest thing I have found is in the filter gallery bu using cut out and reducing the number of levels to 4 the problem is this tends to blurr some of the details as part of the effect whereas I want to maintain the crisp edges of my image so that it just looks flatter
I would also like to know if there is a method to do this and have it somewhat scaleable so I can decide on the range of colours in the current image that would fall into each of the new colour categories so that I can adjust itcase some details are incorporated into say the dark grey layer and they should be black ect?
I'm sure I have seen a very simple feature to reduce the colour range of an image, maybe that was in paint shop pro it was a long time ago.

I've got a 20X20 gif image (72dpi) that I wanted to use as a "logo" on a website. When I post it, however, it expands to an image that is about 1" X 1" and it very pixelated. I've tried converting it to jpg, save for web and just physicially reducing the image to 10X10 etc. and nothing works. It just keeps showing up on the website as a larger pixelated image. What am I doing wrong? I'm just trying to get an image about the size or our emoticons on this site.

I recently installed CS5 on my laptop after first removing it from my previous machine. All licences were validated so no problems there. Now when using paint bucket in Photoshop, the colors that I select in the color picker are not the colors that result when I use the paint bucket.
Â
If I create a new black canvas then the colors selected in color picker work with paint bucket. But if I attempt to recolor the background in an existing image that I import into Photoshop, I get the mismatch with colors when I use paint bucket. My method for selecting colors is the same in each case, I select 'set foreground color' and set the color using html values entry at the bottom of the panel.

Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.
Â
I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. See attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.

I have these PDF catalogs which are about 20 - 50MB each. Some of my customers are not comfortable browsing online so a digital catalog (here) works better for them... The same people generally have bad internet connections so I need to re size these PDF's so they can be downloaded rather quickly.
Â
Starting with a 20MB PDF, I open all slides within Photoshop. I batch process the images from 300dpi to 96dpi , and shrink the size from 24 Inches across to 15... All the images are saved in a new folder, opened back in Photoshop and a new PDF is created. Considering both size and dpi has been clipped by a fairly large amount, you would think that the new PDF would be smaller... But its not, the 20MB version ends up around 60MB afterward.
Â
I don't feel like purchasing Acrobat Pro because I know this should work within Photoshop.

I have designed a billboard and used various photos. Due to changes in the positions of the layers, I ended up with a canvas bigger than the photo. So I need to remove the extra canvas. How do I remove the extra canvas?
Â
I can use the marque tool to copy/cut and paste the photo unto a new file, and hence get rid of the extra canvas. If this is the way forward, is there a precise way to get the marquee tool to the edges of the photo? Is there a function to snap the marquee to the edge of the photo?

My card is ready to go at the specified resolution (300 dpi) and dimensions, but whenever I save it as a pdf, it reduces the resolution immensely. The dimensions of the photoshop file are 1062x615, whereas the pdfs (no compression) are always 254x147. The photoshop file, again, is 300 dpi.
Â
The dimensions in inches for both files: 3.54 x 2.05 Obviously 254 pixels across 3.54 inches is not 300 dpi, but I cant figure out why it would do this.

I have been told that you can reduce the number of pixels in a picture, but keep the size of it.I am unsure about this, so I thought I would ask the experts as it were.I do know the JPEG image compression when saving, but is there any way you can specify the number of pixels?

In PS, can I reduce the size 3 MB to something a lot smaller but still keep ok quality? I go to Image Size but that just makes the pic smaller (duh) I want to change the actual file size.
