Photoshop :: Painting With Transparent Colors

Mar 27, 2007

How can one fill an area with a transparent color rather than a solid color or a color that has been made semi-transparent. In other words, how does one simulate a "color gel" over a graphic so that all under the "gel" is still perfectly visible but now viewed through a color gel.

Photoshop :: CS5 Dark Colors Aren't Blending Well When Painting?

Sep 5, 2013

When im doing artwork in photoshop everything works fine up until I get to the point when I need to use really dark colors. Like different colors of black. When I get to this point the dark colors dont Blend well, they look like theyre displaying only a few shades of grey as opposed to many that would work for it blend better. I tried resetting my preferences and it did nothing. Im using Windows 7, Photoshop CS5.

Photoshop :: History Brush Only Painting White On Picture Instead Of Colors From Text File?

Jul 2, 2013

I am working on a project for my online class and am having difficulties with the History Brush.  Note that both files are identical in size etc.

1.  I created a color text file and saved it with a specific name.

2.  I copied an existing photo from iPhoto, as I couldn't import into PhotoShop,  and pasted it in a new file.  I then removed the white background layer and then saved it with its now specific name and closed the file.

3. I re-opened the Color Text File.

4.  I then re-opended my photo.

5.  I performed a "Select All" from the menu bar of my active Photo then selected Edit - Copy and then closed my Photo file.

6.  From my Color Text File I selected Edit and then Paste from the menu bar.

7.  I selected Layer and Flatten Image from the menu bar.

8.  I right clicked the background image from the Layers Panel and created a snapshot (which is my photo)

9.  I selected the History brush and verified that this also displayed in the gray box associated with the Color Text file within the History Panel.

10.  I verified that my photo image was displayed in my work area.

11.  I start to fill the photo with my History Brush and the only color I get is White.

Paint.NET :: Painting With Transparent Brushes

Oct 14, 2011

I've started to try out digital painting, and have been looking for a paint program with the basic features I want without a bunch of extra stuff to get in my way and slow the program down. I've tried a few dozen programs at least, and so far I like Paint.net the most. There is one problem that is preventing me from using it exclusively over something like the GIMP or SAI, and that is the way it handles transparent brushes.

When I go to paint with an opaque brush the end result is just hideous. I've attached an image to demonstrate what I mean, next to the type of stroke I want that I did in the GIMP.

Attached Thumbnails.

GIMP :: Painting Tool Gives Wrong Colors?

May 5, 2013

I just downloaded GIMP today, and I cannot make the painting tool () to give the correct colors. I tried adding a leather brown color and got a dark grey instead - the same if I use .

I tried changing the color to a pink, but all I got was a lighter shade of grey.

I accidentally moved the tool specifics out of the toolbox window on the left, and it says I can dock it back in, but I cannot figure out how ?

Photoshop :: Transparent Colors/Backgrounds

Nov 6, 2007

I need to make most of the whitest colors of an image hollow or transparent. A majority of the white is the background. However, just deleting the background is not an option because of a grainy edge 'residue' that is left on when using the photo in my next program(i.e. no use of the Magic Eraser or Magic Scissors as an option). I can do this in my next program, as a temporary fix, but I cannot permanently embed the properties into the file/image itself. That is why I want to try to do it in PS.

In short, lets say of 255 colors, I want colors 250 through 255 to be 100% transparent, while leaving the integrity of all other colors.

Photoshop :: How To Change All Colors In Transparent Image Rather Than Using Fill

Apr 25, 2013

I have a transparent logo.  I've conferted it to RGB and tried using fill (it's primarily a single color except for some fading at the edges) but the results were not 100%.  Rather than using Fill and leaving some scruff around the edges, can I just tell it to change ALL image bigs to a single color?  How?

Photoshop :: CS5 Paint Bucket Colors Do Not Match Selected Color Picker Colors

Jun 28, 2012

I recently installed CS5 on my laptop after first removing it from my previous machine. All licences were validated so no problems there. Now when using paint bucket in Photoshop, the colors that I select in the color picker are not the colors that result when I use the paint bucket.

If I create a new black canvas then the colors selected in color picker work with paint bucket. But if I attempt to recolor the background in an existing image that I import into Photoshop, I get the mismatch with colors when I use paint bucket. My method for selecting colors is the same in each case, I select 'set foreground color' and set the color using html values entry at the bottom of the panel.

Photoshop :: Colors In Print Preview Not Matching Colors In Soft Proofing

Jul 7, 2013

Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.

I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. See attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.

Photoshop :: 3D Texture Painting

Apr 22, 2013

I have a project open in a 3d view to paint on a 3d mesh. Everything is fine until I save, close, and reopen. When I open the file to resume I can no longer paint on the model. I can still go to the UV (flat) view for any of the materials on the model but I can't paint on the mesh in 3d view.

I can open a new 3d layer,  re-import the mesh, save and reapply all the previously painted texture to the new mesh layer and keep working but this seems not a very efficient work-flow.

I don't think many 3d pros actually use this piece of PS for texturing. This is the first time I've tried the 3d functionality of PS so I may just be overlooking something.

Photoshop :: Painting On Top Of Picture With CS6

Aug 20, 2013

I was painting on top of a picture I took, with the Art History brush one day adding an oil painting look to it (I was working on a new layer and not the layer with my photo on it), at end of the day I saved my work I had done so far and quit the program.  The next day, I went to continue my work.  When I loaded my work, added a new layer for a new section of the painting I wanted to do.  The Art History just painted in white instead of adding the oil painting effect I got the previous day.  I picked the same brush presets and the colors on my palette were set to the default colors (the way they were the day before). so that I can continue on with my painting?

Photoshop :: Plugin For 3d Painting

Oct 13, 2008

I'm creating a 3d Avatar (human model) and getting tired of fixing seams when applying textures to my UV space. I HATE seams around the hairline, sides of shirt and pants, etc. Clean up can either be a pain or it looks bad.

I need a Photoshop plugin were you can paint in your UV areas and it will automatically "tile" your brush strokes so that there are no seams on your 3d model. Is there one out there?

Were you load up your UV layout in photoshop, define the UV areas and paint away without having to worry about seams when I apply it to my 3d model.

Is there such a plugin/script for Photoshop?

Photoshop :: Painting With Patterns

I'm trying to paint with a pattern I created but I'm having trouble doing so. I'm trying to follow the instructions in the photoshop manual but it almost seems as though they missed something (but it's probably me who's missing something). To create a pattern, it says to use the rectangle marquee tool to make a selection, setting feather to 0, choose edit -> define pattern, give it a name, and hit OK. So when I do that, nothing seems to happen after I hit OK. If I try to use the paint bucket tool, I still get the same monotonous color. How do I actually use the pattern I just created with the paint bucket tool?
