Photoshop :: PSD To JPG / JPEG Color Distortion
Jul 24, 2013
I'm doing some post production on a CG project, but now that I'm finished and try to save the finished PSD document as a jpg file, the saved JPG image appears both darker and filled with artifacts. And by appear, I mean it actually is.
I have never encountered this issue before, and it ruins the whole image.. which I've spent alot of time on. Im using CS6 and I can't really say I've touched any color profile settings,

I'm new to Photoshop. Currently, Im learning Photoshop through Adobe Photoshop CS6 Classroom in a Book. I found out that the camera raw plug-in seems weird.
This is the original photo.
When I opened it in Camera Raw, the color of the photo distorted. ( I didn't do anything on it yet. )
Is it caused by software problems? Or did I accidentally tick something in the Setting/Preferences?

I'm working on a new website layout in photoshop (of course) It's mostly grays, blacks and whites. Now, when I attempt to "Save As", wheather it's a GIF or JPG and try to view it outside of photoshop such as in Frontpage or wherever, my grays turn to shades of blueish hues.
Now it looks ok with the blues but i really want it to be gray, becuase that was what was inteneded.
I checked the color mode it's RGB 8 bit (16 bit is grayed out) that's it.

I've run into a problem that I'm sure has been a popular one for many. I recently edited a photo of mine in Photoshop CS5 and when I save it to JPEG format and open it, the color is completely different. I've searched the web but for me solutions hasn't worked such as using sRGB and changing the working spaces to adobe RGB (1998). Both of which hasn't worked.

I have a problem with the coloring of my images when I convert my images from RAW to JPEG. I work with a professional photographer on the weekends doing weddings and when doing so, I always use the RAW format. I use his cards since it is his business and he edits the pictures. I recieve a copy of the final product of the pictures he gives the bride in JPEG and then a copy of all the pictures that I took in the RAW format. I had been using JPEG until I played around with the RAW pictures in photoshop and realized how much more you can do with the pictures.

I have block colour (or image) and text overlaid, fine. But save to Jpeg and the block color around the text becomes speckled. Other than saving as a higher quality what (if anything) can I do to prevent/minimise this?
While asking about text; is there any way to make the boundary of a text box irregular on one or two sides; say a box shape but jagged at one side so that text flows around a "protrusion"?

I made a simple panel in photoshop and used the #number for the color selected to fill one side of the panel in my CSS code. When the page is rendered there's a very slight difference between the panel and the background which I expect to be exactly the same.

When I have a file in Illustrator that I want to save as or export as a PDF or JPEG whenever I save it the colours shift and the quality drops. Most noticiably black boxes goes to a muddy brown when saved to JPEGS, but I have also noticed tones in Photographs change quite a lot when saving as PDF.
I have tried to tweek every type of setting there is. higher resoulution, compression, sampling, down sampling, PDF preset, print quality etc.but nothing seems to sort it out. PDF's arent as much as a problem as the JPEG but the only way I have managed to get a PDF up to a reasonable standard is by wacking everything up so there is no compression or downsampling which makes ginat files I cant email....
Im sure the problem probably lies within the combination of each of these together but I cant seem to find out what that is. Also brown in the seat base has gone more orange and the whole picture has generaly lost quality.

I just spent 30+ hours editing a set of 123 wedding photos in RAW file format. When I export to JPEG, the colors change on just about every photo. I understand that if I would have correctly set up the camer calibration prior to editing, this would have possibly solved my problem. However, the photos are already edited. When I export the files in TIFF, they look fine. It's just the JPEG file format that changes the look of my images. I'm using Lightroom 2.3. My last brainstorm involved importing the already edited TIFF files and then trying to export those into JPEG, the color format was still off.

I have a jpeg image of a motorcycle on a pure yellow background. I want to make the yellow transparent. Naturally there are a lot of spaces within the motorcycle image that contain yellow.
I followed instructions I found...
Removing the background of an image
1) add an alpha channel to your layer
2) use colors/color to alpha and use the background color
This results in the checkerboard being applied to the motorcycle, not the yellow background. I assume that's okay.
This makes all the pixels with the background color transparent, and those with a close color partially transparent.
Then:
- select the background with the magic wand,
- grow the selection by a couple of pixels to ensure that the border of the sprite is in the selection (the most important work of color-to-alpha is on the border pixels, so they shouldn't be protected)
This selects only the area outside the bicycle, but I don't mind reselecting smaller areas, if I can.
- grow the selection by a couple of pixels to ensure that the border is in the selection (the most important work of color-to-alpha is on the border pixels, so they shouldn't be protected)

I'm using -color-matrix on a bunch of images to change colour temperature slightly:
convert -quality 94 -color-matrix "1.0 0 0 0 0.975 0 0 0 0.95" x.jpg y.jpg
Problem is, in sky areas, this causes patchy colours and banding issues. However, and this is the strange part, if I convert to TIFF (even using JPEG compression), and then apply the colour matrix, I don't get these issues.
BUT, even wierder, if I then try to convert the fine-looking TIFF image to JPEG again (even with -quality 100), I get these patchy colours again.
This is with GIMP 2.6.12 on a Fedora Linux system.

I have been watching MANY videos, but just cannot seem to figure out how to color the B&W photo I imported into Illustrator CC. Do I need to do something in Photoshop first? I was able to trace the image but from there I am lost.

When I export as a jpeg the images obviously are compressed, however, they also get darker and more saturated. Is there anyway to compensate for this without having to overcorrect the image before exporting?

With LR4 and a Nikon D7000.When i import that raw in lightroom, the first view of the picture is fine then LR do its "loading" and bang, the picture changes. As RAW is not supposed to be affected by the colorspace My understanding is the embeded preview in the raw is sRGB and LR work in a different colorspace. If i change the camera for AdobeRGB, i dont have the problem and what i see from the camera to the preview then the final result is consistent. But this cause me another problem because i shoot RAW+jpeg, the backup JPEG saved in the other memory card is now AdobeRGB as well and less compatible as everybody knows, for web, print labatory, etc...
I dont have in LR any automatic developement settings. My screen is calibrated with a Spyder 3.
I'm feeling stuck in the corner as i want by backup JPEG in sRGB and n o colorshift in LR.

Is there a way to export a document @ a different resolution than 72DPI? I know I can set the horizontal/vertical scale to save it at a larger dimension at 72DPI, but I need the file to be actual size and 300DPI.
This is part of a larger process, and I'd prefer to do the entire process from Illustrator, and not have to open the files in Photoshop to change the size/resolution.
Also, is it possible to change the color mode to CMYK or Greyscale for the exported Jpeg?

I got this workflow,
1) From LR export to PS
2) Do all essential editings.
3) Save. File become 'xyz.tiff' now. (I want to keep this as master copy)
4) Crop to 4r, Save a Jpeg copy as 'xyz 4r.jpg'
5) PS save it as a copy, but do not automatically open the Jpeg copy. The tiff remains opened. I have to manullay Open, browse to it, and open the Jpeg. The 'Open Recent' list also do not list 'xyz 4r.jpg'.
6) Do 4r sharpening for the 'xyz 4r.jpg', save it.
Basically the files I want to keep and worked on is like this: NEF -> xyz.tiff -> xyz 4r.jpg -> xyz sml.jpg(maybe)
Now, it there a way in step (5) to have PS save the JPEG copy, and automatically open it? I don't care if the Tiff copy remains opened or not, I am done with it.

I got a new computer (Windows 7) at work this April and as of today, when I work on any of my JPEG images in PS CS5,suddenly it has defaulted its "Save As" to JPEG2000. How did this default change and how do I get it to default save as. JPEG again? There was nothing I noticed and no warning as to why this has changed, I didn't touch a thing!
(Last week, Adobe had to work with our IT manager to fix a problem that started occuring with my new Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 program. They had to log into my computer and change a registry thing to get it to work properly again...also something that changed without warning!!)

I'm using a Mac. My windows friend sent me a jpeg of a piece of art we're working on. It looked fine in the web browser. It looked fine in Preview when I opened it, and it looked fine in Photoshop. But when I save it from photoshop after adding just a small thing to the image, the whole thing comes out a bit brighter. I have no idea what's doing it. I've tried Save For Web and Save As and it comes out the same each time. I have played with color settings in the past slightly, but it was my understanding that only affected how photoshop displays the image and I wouldn't expect it to change an image I imported then exported again.

two things:
I'm using CS3 on a PC. I'm using the wave filter to distort an image. writing down all the characteristics ie, # of generators, wavelength, amplitude, scale ect. Is there anyway to recreate that EXACT wave pattern on a particular image once I've left the program? It seems to generate another algorithm even if I input the same numbers.
Also, I'm distorting an image at 72dpi as a test. When I replace the image with an exact replica at 300dpi and apply the wave distortion, I'm unable to get even remotely the same results. the wave patterns are much tighter. I've moved around all the characteristics with no result.

How do achieve this effect. I want to create tv distortion, but not in the form of noise. Like when things get stretched, distorted, and look all jagged horizontally. Very similar to when you are losing a video signal.

How do you get the arced text without it distorting the text itself. the tops are bigger than the bottoms of the letters. So your font isn't the same anymore. I am just trying to do a simple arc like cheapo cd label programs do. Straight letters on an arc. Is there a circle text or something i can do?

I recently installed an upgrade from CS2 to CS4 on my Vista laptop. It is fully registered and updated. I seem to be having an issue with Photoshop. Any file I open, jpg, psd, pdf, etc. opens with lines and squares all over the image. I can't quite figure out what could be causing this. I thought maybe video card, but it too is current. I have included a picture to display what I mean.

Here are two crops of a banal subject, our dryer and its circular control knob. Both done the same way, but look at the difference. First result, with size 1876x1419, which is reduced for this post, is obviously a distortion:
I wasn't surprised or upset to see this distortion, since I'd seen it many times before. It's easy enough to remedy: just Perspective Crop again. This time the image was 1871x1000, which is much better:
Photoshop, we have a problem! Why can't this be corrected?
