In a new CS5 I didn't meet this problem, but since I have to work on CS3 (Windows) for a while, When I select a layer in a layer panel and then I want to move it with a move tool, in my earlier experience the selected layer in panel was moved, despite the point from which I start to drag.
Now, if I select layer1, but start to drag in a window when pressing on layer0 (it's too hard to pick slim lines of layer1), it "forgets" that I selected layer1 and drags layer0.
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
when I selected a layer in the layers window it's gray instead of blue, and if I try to move around the content of the layer I get that message : « Could not use the move tool because the target channel is hidden »
Is there a way to change the functionality of the layers so that when a new layer is created or a layer is duplicated that it automatically is created below the selected layer? I always organize my files with elements at the top of the document at the top of the layers panel and have them in decending order (unless there is a reason for an object to be above another) so that it is easier to navigate the page. Right now this means I spend a lot of time moving layers up and down which gets rather annoying. I believe I saw at one point that there is a key command for duplicating a layer below the existing one, but I can't remember how anymore. ability to make a blanket change in preferences.
I'm using Revit 2013 and recently installed the Update Release 1. After the Update I am running into an issue when I selct any element, my screen flashes 2-3 times and then the element is automatically moved to the North. It's as if every time I select an item it defaults to offset.Â
how do I move select parts of text? I have a "B" and a "G" that I put into Illustrator using the text tool. When I go to move the "G" onto the lower corner of the "B", it selects both letters and moves them as a block.
I have a GIF image that I need to add something to, but I don't want to add it to every single individual layer. Is there a way to add it over or behind the entire GIF so that it remains static while the GIF's frames cycle - like a watermark or something?
Or if not, is there maybe a script-fu that copies and merges a selected layer over every other individual layer automatically, without messing them up?
I know I'll probably have to just end up manually adding it to each layer, (so many layers...).
When i click on the green line has you can see on the image. The layer toolbar wont show me the right layer, like if it's not working. But i can see the right layer inside propreties.
Is there a system variable to ajust to see my layers inside the Layer tool bar?
Is there a way to move a layer mask from one adjustment layer to another adjustment layer (within the same file), without removing the mask from its original layer?Â
(I can move a mask to a different layer by clicking and dragging the thumbnail, but the mask then disappears from its layer of origin). I'm using Ps CS5 on Windows XP.
I'm having issues with Civ3d 2013. I pushed off upgrading from 2012Â because of the format change and the service pack release. I was hoping little glitches would be fixed.
Here are the a couple of glitches to date that I have seen no resolution to in the long list of threads.
1. Layer filters do not filter, unless I have checked "Apply filter to toolbar". The problem is, I dont want to apply them to the toolbar.
2. Publishing to PDF - when set to lines merge (set in the page layout and the publish setting), the wipeouts dont work, and the background masks on leaders makes a faint border around the text in the PDF. When set to overwrite, to get the wipeouts to not print to the PDF as a big black blob, they have to be on a layer set to color 255. I can work around most of the wipeouts, except for dimensions because the background mask doesn't seem to take.
Having trouble moving objects between layers by simply dragging the right-hand dot to a new layer? CS6 won't let me drag the dot on any kind of selected art from any kind of file I've tried.. Â Click the name of the desired layer in the Layers panel. Then choose Object > Arrange > Send To Current Layer. Drag the selected-art indicator , located at the right of the layer in the Layers panel, to the layer you want. Â But method #2 doesn't work at all for me. In fact, the cursor doesn't even change when I mouse over the selected-art indicator dot.
Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?
I just got a new computer (Windows 7) and I don't like the default "Paint" program that comes with it. I've been using the Windows XP paint program for a long time and Paint.Net was the closest thing I could find to it.
I don't use Paint to edit photos or create super detailed artwork. I use it to draw little things (the image size is usually 50x50 or 100x100 pixels) and zooming in to 400%-800%. I've used paint.net a few times but I was wondering if there was a place in the program that would let me set preferences. It would just save a little time making it more convenient and less frustrating.
These are the things that I would like to change:
1: When moving a selected item it automatically leaves a "checker board" pattern on the image. It's relatively easy to fix with the "Paint Bucket" tool. Though if there was an option to make it only leave the default area white it would be a time saver.
2: When moving a selected item it will automatically replace the image beneath where you place it. In the Windows XP program there was an option to either replace an image or to replace all other colors except white (255green+255red+255green on the custom color spectrum). Is there an option like that in this program?
3: After moving a selected image (using the "rectangle select" tool then the "move selected pixels" tool) is it possible to simply de-select the selected image without having to click on the "rectangle select" tool and right clicking? In other words, being able to move an image, deselect the image, then automatically return the tool to "line" tool?
4: While using the "Line/Curve" tool the 4 click and drag points automatically appear on it to make it "curve-able" so is there a way to just leave it as a solid line without those 4 selectable points appearing?
5: Is there a way that I can make "Line Tool" my default cursor instead of pencil?
In PS i can Magic wand selection shape from one layer, drop to sub layer and copy that selected shape from that sub layer. How do I do this in illistrator, and moreover, from multiple layer at the same time. Â For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.
I'm using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac. I'm having a strange thing happen that hasn't always happened. When I click on a layer to move it... suddenly when I go to move it, it switches to another layer and moves THAT (wrong) layer. They are not linked. Â Along similar lines, something else weird is happening. When I create a group.I can't move just one layer within that group. ALL layers in the group move. This also didn't used to happen. Â I somehow changed a preference, but I can't for the life of me figure out.
since Photoshop CS5 (Mac), there is always shown a grey bounding box around the content of the selected layer, when I move it. For CS5 there exists a plugin, that removes this terrible box, but it doesn't work anymore with CS6.
I'm making an animated GIF, and what I want to do is overlay each layer of the animation with a layer of text. I know the hard and long way by creating a copy of the text layer and merging it with each and every layer of the animation, but is any faster way of doing this?
I've got a type layer, and I want to move a certain selection of type, but it seems to only want to move the entire layer. Here's what I've got:
I want to move the "Web Developer" type so that it's centered under "Gibran Shah". I'm using the Rectangular Marquee Tool to form a rectangle around "Web Developer" and then the Move Tool to move it. When I move it, it moves the entire type layer. How do I get it to move only the selected region.
I'm trying to learn Gimp so I can use the art I made with it in my games later on but as a formal Photoshop user I feel like that I have a hard learning curve.
I'm trying to move things on my layer without effecting the layer boundaries (just like the way move tool works in Photoshop).
I know that this is possible using selecting the part I want to move on my layer, then holding Ctrl+Alt and dragging with my mouse, then it creates a floating layer what I have to convert to layer in the layers panel.
how to change the colour of the selected layer in the layers pallete? It's quite annoying the way it is (Dull grey/blue) and sometimes hard to see what layer's selected? Â I prefer the brighter blue on my other computer!
When I select a layer, it is highlighted in grey (in the layers palette) and I am unable to edit it. We just bought new Macbook Pro laptops last Friday and also got Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Illustrator CC. Everything works pretty fine, except moving layer content eg. images or fonts around is a bit behind, slow/laggy, without any apparent reason. Â This happens despite external screen connected or not. It also happens with or without power adapter connected. We have brand new Mac OS Mavericks and 16GB RAM so performance should not be a problem. So I am adding a leaf to the waterfall image. The leaf is on it's own layer with a layer mask, and was moved into position without a problem. A drop shadow was added with Layer Styles, but when trying to move the layer again, the mask moved, but the layer stayed behind.  I checked for Auto select, which was off. I unlinked the mask, tested, relinked the mask, and tested again. Same problem. Eventually it started working OK after I tried moving with first the layer active, and then the mask active, and swapping this state about three times. I could not get it to misbehave again after this.  Nothing was locked. Auto select was off. Other layers all moved OK. I can find no explanation, and think of no user error (touch wood).
I am trying to sample a picture of a moving river and add Layer effects to it. I am having trouble with Cloning Tool, have never used Slicer Tool, and really lost to be honest. Â Basically I'd like to draw a river and add samples of a real picture of a river, like rocks from the river, etc.
I am trying to create a named viewport in paperspace and have to off selected layer only in selected view port. I Know to do this manually, but i don't get any idea for doing this using .net.Â
I have a CAD file that will not let me delete layers, get the usual message; "The selected layer was not deleted . . . . ". This is not the current layer, nor is it 0 or Defpoints and I am fairly certain the Layer does not contain objects. As an interesting side note; when running Purge, the Purge zero-length geometry and empty text objects is grayed out. It's not an option.
