Photoshop :: Moving A Selection A Specific Point
Apr 27, 2009
I need to move areas of an image that I have selected using the unit of points. For example, I get corrections in our copy where I need to move certain parts of the image 8 points up or over 3 points.
I can use the measurement tool to meausure the distance but then it disappears when I try to actually move the selection. The same thing happens when I try to use guides to mark the area. I wish I could just set Photoshop to "nudge" in points instead of pixels. Is there any way to make this easier? (Photoshop CS4 version 11)

I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."

I am retouching a photo... i'm have selected one person in a group and wanted to move her closer to the group, but when I do that, there is a hole you can see through left behind. That obviously isn't going to work. I think I remember trying to do this and there isn't a hole left behind.
How can a move a selection and just have the background left behind... I wouldn't even mind moving her closer and having a double image... I could clone out the image I didn't want.

I have a picture of a horse on a white background in psd format which I want to drag into another psd image.
When I make the selection of the horse, then drag it into the other image it comes in o/k but still has a faint white replica of its original background.

I've used the Pen tool and got it down pretty quickly, and made a selection (of Roger Federer). I cut it out and saved it on its own layer. Then I did the same for the chair he was in. I just tossed the leftover background. Then I cut and paste (not very accurately) a Christmas tree into a new background layer. Then of course, I inserted myself into the scene (even using the previously made path/selection) and here's where the trouble is...
I needed to adjust the position of "me" to fit the scene scale -position & size wise- with Roger and the chair.
How do I move, transform, and tweak my selections? I don't want the other layers to move too. I just want to move what I select and then change it's size.

I have been using Corel for over 20 years, and have never needed support. Â I do most of my work editing nodes within a drawing for creating continuous line patterns that are repeatable. Â
For years I have simple "nudged" the first and last point of a complex curve to the appropriate position. Â Now I want to simplify that by entering in the coordinates for the node. Â
I have tried Object Coordinates, but it appears to do nothing after I change the node location, or radically change my design. Â There is no documentation for it. I have searched Customize for some sort of input field to add to the toolbar with no luck.
I always have to add the information on the coordinates of the selected note to the Status Bar, so I am surprised that I can't find an option for editing the position.

I have created a path using the pen tool. Of course, to get things right I have to move some of the anchor points. I believe that I should be able to do this by holding the Control key down while using the Convert Point Tool. Sometimes this works just fine, and other times the whole selection moves when I try to move the anchor point.
What is the exact procedure for moving an anchor point? I am apparently missing a step so that this appears to sometimes work, and other times not.

I've got a type layer, and I want to move a certain selection of type, but it seems to only want to move the entire layer. Here's what I've got:
I want to move the "Web Developer" type so that it's centered under "Gibran Shah". I'm using the Rectangular Marquee Tool to form a rectangle around "Web Developer" and then the Move Tool to move it. When I move it, it moves the entire type layer. How do I get it to move only the selected region.

If you're an Illustrator user, you may be familiar with the ability to move the active anchor point of the line, by holding "Spacebar" and dragging during the drawing process. This is a useful timesaver for creating complex paths. While Photoshop CS6 has introduced some useful new path-editing features, this is one that is still missing.
I cant' figure out why Adobe does not make the pen tool identical between the two programs. This is an old feature in Illustrator. Don't the Adobe programmers talk to each other.

I would like to use the behaviour of  "drag and drop" into AutoCad (from a listbox in a form) at a specific point, I do not need to drop anything into AutoCad, I just need the exact point of the mouseposition converted to WCS in autocad.
the below code works, but i do not get the correct point in AutoCad.
Private Sub ListBox1_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles ListBox1.MouseDownDim ed As Editor = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument.Editor '---now i drop listbox-text in autocad, DoDragDrop(ListBox1.Text, DragDropEffects.Copy)Dim pt As Point3d = ed.PointToWorld(New Point(CInt(MousePosition.X), CInt(MousePosition.Y)))'---draw circleModelspaceAdd(Teken.Cirkel(pt(0), pt(1), 100))End Sub
Â
(Maybe it is possible to just change the mouse-cursor, but it doesn't 'lock' the selected item in the listbox, as if it was dragged into the drawing.)

In Illustrator CS5 my anchor point handles are snapping to specific angles, which I don't want. I have to turn off Smart Guides to freely adjust the handles.
Â
Under preferences, Smart Guides, I turned off the custom construction guides, but even this did not correct the issue. I love using Smart Guides and I thought there were just in face that 'guides' and provided no snapping.
Â
I also tried turning off 'snapping to point' to see if that was creating an issue, but no dice.
Â
I can provide my system settings in case:
Â
Mac OSX 10.8.4
16 GB memory
Illustrator CS5
Â
Wanted to ensure I was not missing a feature I couldn't find or research before trying to reset my preferences.

Is there a way to move a solid part in an assy using grip snaps and a specific vector direction .
Please look at the attachment, here you will see a gusset positioned on top of a foot plate, the gusset needs to be moved so that it makes contact with the cylinder,it will then be welded. The problem is more difficult because the gusset is offset to the axis of the cylinder and the precise distance is unknown unless worked out using trigonometry.
The question is what is the best method of moving the gusset to the precise distance and direction ?

I've had a simple lisp I've been using for years that suddenly disappeared. It required that you identify a block name, tag name, and the value that you want the tag to be. All of this is performed via command line, so it is scriptable. Since I lost it, I've been experimenting with -attedit. This command comes frustratingly close to what I'm looking for, except it only appends an existing tag, or replaces a specific string within the tag; I can't get it to replace the entire tag, regardless of its value.
1> Any lisp routine that does what I describe?
or
2> How to make -attedit replace a tag value without regard to what the value currently is (like a * wildcard)?

I am using GIMP 2.8 on a MacBookPro with OSX 10.8.
I want to cut and move a selection (and, if at all possible, preserve and then enlarge the selection rectangle to perform a subsequent cut and move operation.)
I've got a graphic, let's say it's a 10x10 pixel square in black. What I want to do is to add a vertical column of white pixels in between every existing column of the image.
What I thought to do is the following: first, enlarge the canvas to twice the width of the image, so 20Wx10T (original image on left, blank extension on right). Now select the rightmost column of pixels and move the contents of the selection one pixel to the right. Extend the left edge of the selection rectangle 2 pixels to the left, to include the newly "blank" column and the next column of the image. Move new selection and contents one pixel to the right, and so on, until the expanded canvas is filled and there are 'blank' columns between every column of pixels in the original image.
However, I am unable to find a way to move the selection and its contents. I've tried every combination of secret handshake I can think of, but none work. I'm able to move the selection and essentially duplicate it in another location, but not by cutting it and moving it somewhere else, leaving the initially selected area blank.
