Photoshop :: Move Previous Guide To Exact Parameter?

Aug 7, 2012

1) Is there any way in Photoshop to know the exact location of an existing guide like you can easily do in Illustrator and Indesign by watching the info box?

2) Besides that, can i move a previous guide to an exact parameter like i do in Illustrator and Indesign? those are very useful tips to the workflow.

Maybe there is a plugin to do it more efficiently. Nowdays, i have to always Create New Guide. If i like the New Guide 20 px from another guide and have to always remember the previous location or do the math...it too much time consuming. It would be great to have a box where i could put the value and move guides around like Illustrator.

Illustrator :: How To Place A Guide In Exact Center Of Artboard

Nov 4, 2012

1. Is there an easy/precise way to place a guide in the exact center of an artboard?

2. I want to use the guide to create a balanced design for a poster by making sure that I place my focal image on the center of guide to ensure that half of it displays on either side of the guide. How important is it to strive for complete balance? Sometimes I see ads that seem to have balance while other times there might be tons of white space an some graphic element on one side or the other of the layout.

Is there a way to change the selection position and size by entering the numbers exactly? I find it difficult to make pixel perfect movements and it is tiresome to use the keyboard arrows to do this.

When something is selected, the position and size appear in the bottom left corner. Perhaps clicking on this could bring up a window that would let the user enter exact values.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Execute Command Using P For Previous Will Not Highlight Previous Object Selected

Mar 1, 2012

I have a user in my group that is hesitant to upgrade to 2012 because , he has many lisp routines that are associated with the PREVIOUS selection feature. This selection is very useful in that when you are moving or selecting many objects you can enter P for previous and the object will be selected.

In 2009, when you select objects then hit escape, then try to execute a command requesting to use the Previous, AutoCAD will remember the last selected object and then highlight it.

In 2012, when you select objects then hit escape, then try to execute a command using P for previous, it will not highlight the previous object selected but will highlight the previous object where a command was executed on.

Hope I haven't lost you. It seems there should be a setting under SELECTION of how to manipulate the Previous selection feature.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Move Attributes In Constraint Parameter Environment

Mar 12, 2012

I have a dynamic block that I am trying to add some pretty basic functionality to (at least it seems like it should be simple!). Since I’m still relatively new to DB’s, I figured I’d give some background on what I’m trying to do, cause maybe it could be done with a much easier approach than I have come up with. So if you don’t feel like reading the details, see the fourth paragraph for my actual question.

The block is a sheet reference annotation (that shows:  SheetNum/TotalNumOfSheets)  that we typical put in the notes section of our construction drawings.  It looks nice when the text (which are attributes), lines up with the text in the note (usually Mtext, but sometimes a Mleader). So I constantly find myself completing the tedious task of placing the block at the insert point of the Mtext (which is always justified LEFT TOP), and then calculating the distance down to line that I want the block to line up with.

So what I want the block to be able to do is to be able to have the user grab the block by its basepoint, place it at the insert point of the Mtext object, and just enter the text height of the Mtext note, the line space factor, and the target line of the note that the sheet reference block should line up (the input would all be done via custom block properties in the Properties Palette).  And since we almost always use a text height of 0.125 and Line Space factor of 1, those will be the defaults, and really the only thing that would need to be entered would be the line number of the Mtext that the annontation should line up with.

I already figured out most of the constraint parameters necessary and calculated the offset equation using custom parameters. I have all the linework moving correctly using the vertical constraint parameters, however, I cannot figure out how to get the Attributes to move along with the linework. I know how to move text and attributes using Action Parameters, but I can’t do it with Constraint Parameters. So I figured that maybe I could chain an Action Parameter to the Constraint Parameter, but I couldn’t figure out how to do this either. Also, I am using visibity states and would like the visibility grip to move along with everything else as well.

My block is attached. I used some lines for the Constraint Parameters to be associated with, but they are only there for the block to operate correctly, therefore they are invisible in both of the visiblity states. Probably not the best way, but it works.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Link Move Action To Visibility Parameter

Sep 12, 2012

I've got a block with 2 lines of text, the second line being optional.  If the second line is omitted, the first line should be moved down, so it's centered.

I can handle the second line being omitted with a visibility parameter.  And I can handle the first line being moved down with a move parameter.  But how can I link the two?

Ideally, I'd be able to re-use the line 1 attribute and display it in whichever place was correct, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

AutoCAD .NET :: Changing Distance Parameter In Dynamic Block Doesn't Move Attached Attributes

Aug 28, 2011

I have this Dynamic Block which has a few  distance parameters on it and  an attribute at beginning of each parameter which are attached to a stretch action. If   manually bring the block in. And  set a value to attribute and then stretch the it , attribute move along with action. But when I do it pragmatically it doesn't . Basically attribute stays at original location of original block before stretch. What is wrong with my code. Or Shall I do something to Attributes when I change the distance parameters in Program? I don't know .

I have a function which bring the block in and set attribute first and then another call which change the distance . So I don't show the first function which to me works fine . The problem is this part.

For Each myBRP As DynamicBlockReferenceProperty In myBRC
For I = 1 To NumbderOfDistanceParamsinDynBlk
If myBRP.PropertyName = "Distance" & Trim(i.ToString) Then
myBRP.Value = DynDistancevalue(i)
End If

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ipart - Standard Parameter Column Change Depending On Custom Parameter Column

Jan 3, 2013

I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.

I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)

Is this possible?

Photoshop :: Beginners Guide :: Understanding Resolution

Nov 10, 2004

UNDERSTANDING RESOLUTION: A beginner's guide

Resolution is responsible for much confusion to beginners in Photoshop. I am providing this guide in hopes to clearing the smoke and answer any questions you may have.

SCREEN RESOLUTION

Before we can get into the 2 most common resolution-related questions, ("How come my images come out smaller when I print them?" and "How come my images come out pixelated when I print them?"), we need to get a grasp of what SCREEN RESOLUTION is.

Your monitor is displaying a certain resolution that you may have commonly heard. Popular ones include "640x480", "1024x768" and "1280x1024". Let's take the latter; this means your monitor is showing 1280 pixels worth of information WIDE by 1024 pixels worth of information HIGH.

IMAGE RESOLUTION

Most web-based images are created with an IMAGE RESOLUTION of 72ppi (Pixels Per Inch). In order to determine the DIMENSION of an image, you merely take it's size and multiply it's resolution. Let's take a 4" x 6" image in Photoshop. To determine it's DIMENSIONS, we do the following:

4" x 72 pixels per inch (ppi) = (4x72) = 288 pixels wide
6" x 72 pixels per inch (ppi) = (6x72) = 432 pixels high
Your 4"x6" @ 72ppi image has a DIMENSION of 288x432 pixels.

UNDERSTANDING CORRELATION BETWEEN OUTPUT AND IMAGE RESOLUTION.

Place that 288x432 px (pixel) image on your monitor screen, which has an OUTPUT RESOLUTION of 1280x1024. The image takes up 288 of the 1280 pixels wide and 432 of the 1024 pixels high. If you change your monitor's OUTPUT RESOLUTION to 640x480, that SAME IMAGE now takes up 288/640 pixels wide and 432 of 480 pixels high. This makes the image LOOK bigger, however it has not changed size or dimensions at all. You've merely changed the amount of information per inch that you are viewing on screen.

ENSURING PROPER VIEWING OF IMAGES

When using Photoshop, make sure your VIEW RATIO is at 1:1 (100% ZOOM FACTOR) A common misbelief is that when you zoom in or out of an image, you are changing it's size/dimension/resolution. This is not true. Understand that you are merely changing how closely you are examining the same image.

WHY DO MY PRINTS COME OUT SMALL?

It's simple math. Your 4"x6" @ 72ppi image is being printed on a printer that outputs at 300 or 600dpi (dots per inch) [side note: Dictate onscreen images as ppi when you refer to their resolution and dictate printed images as dpi when you refer to their resolution]. If we do some math, you'll see why your images come out so small.

4" x 72ppi = 288 pixels wide
6" x 72ppi = 432 pixels high
Print this in a printer that uses 300dpi and we get an image that is:

288 pixels wide / 300 dots per inch* = 0.96" wide
432 pixels wide / 300 dots per inch* = 1.44" high
*Dots/Pixels are interchangable, ie, 1 dpi = 1 ppi.

So that same image you thought would print at 4" x 6", printed at 0.96" x 1.44".

WHY DO MY PRINTS COME OUT PIXELATED/DISTORTED?

For the same reasons it comes out small. The only difference is, that the computer scaled the image to the dimension of the original. (Tried to scale your 0.96" x 1.44" image to the dimension of 4" x 6") This is like trying to get a gallon of water out of a shot glass. The end result of this scaling is a pixelated/distorted image.

SO HOW DO WE FIX IT?

Merely known what the end dimension you want the image to be, and the OUTPUT RESOLUTION of the printer you're using.

1. I know I want an image to be 8.5" x 11"
2. I know my printer prints at 600dpi.

Do the math:

I need a document that is:

8.5 x 600 = 5100 pixels
11 x 600 = 6600 pixels
5100x6600 pixels in Photoshop.

This image will print at your desired dimension on that printer without distortion/pixelation or being shrunk.
