I need to manipulate digital newspaper clippings from the early 1900's in order to enlarge and create a readable hard copy. The pdf's that i am getting from the NYTimes are often miniscule - like microfilm. They are always a PDF and I am looking for the most efficient way to create (multi-page okay) readable copies.

I know the effect I want to go with for my project. Looking to create an older newspaper style clipping. Taking the picture placing it with text with the newspaper font, and making it look like an old news paper article. The yellow fade around the edges. I think I can figure out most of it, but to get that printed on old news paper effect is what I am striving for.

I've done things like despeckle, which helped a bit, and some other filters to get rid of noise and such but I was wondering if anyone had any useful tips for improving newspaper images? (i.e., get rid of the grainy look from the high dot content, just make it look cleaner)

the one that i have quickly edited to give a quick example (the breasts) is at an angle, and i want it straight, also so i can add more text to the skin part. Does anyone know where i can find an image like this or manipulate one or even make one from scratch?
In the work I do I rescale and warp layers. My question is, is there a way to make the layer i am transforming be displayed as edges, or translucent. This would greatly help me match the layer to the original image.

Any idea how to get this effect? I had tried by cloning the face and sticking the text between the two layers, which kinda worked, but i want a more "collage" kind of effect.

what if I scan a article which has both pictures & text? Can I use descreen for only the picture part or do I have to scan the whole article without descreen and afterwards find a way to deal with the moire effect? Or what is the best way to do it?

I'm not anyway professional, I just have some articles I want to scan and make a scrapbook. Is InDesign best tool for creating the digital scrapbook when I also want to print it for some of my friends? Or are there some better tools?
From what I read, did I understand right that 300dpi is enough for my pictures/text scans (like I said I also wanna make a printed version of my scrapbook)?
I am working on a big project that involves black and white photography for newspapers. I haven't had any experience with using line screens over my images and am wondering how to do them correctly. I tried help in Photoshop but I didn't have very good results with the Bitmap and then 85 line screen setting. Everything looked very noisy (worse than a printed newspaper) when I printed the file out.

Ctrl-clicking the thumbnail of the layer and editing it in the channels tab is not what I mean...
Take a gradient, from Red 100% Opacity to Blue 0% Opacity. After I saved the gradient as a PNG, how can I for example use the levels adjustment on the PNG's alpha channel?
If I open the image in After Effects there is an option to control the alpha channel. That's quite embarrassing if a video software can edit the alpha channel and an image software can't...

i'm trying to take some photos and manipulate them to look like drawings without using the basic photoshop filters....
i'm open to trying different kinds of styles. anything from something like in the movie "Waking Life", to the Power Puff girls style of animation.
Even if i could get the photos to look like a water color painting would be cool.

1. I cannot drag the end of the layer to the right in order to increase the duration of my animation. The layer seems to be locked at 15 frames in length. How do I increase the duration of my 3-D layer so I can create a longer animation?
2. The bounding box for the model extends very far into z-space (much further than nesscessary to simply contain the model) which is making the object difficult to maniputale. How do I change the dimensions of the bounding box to more easily manipulate this model?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a number of images (faces) that I want to use for 3D texturing, but to use them, I need to do a few things:
1) open the eyes wider (whenever the subject is squinting);
2) Flatten the lips into a neutral position if smiling or frowning
3) Close the lips so teeth are not showing at all if the subject had mouth open (talking or smiling)
Best ways to do this in Photoshop (CS6) or if I'm better off using a different program. I'd like to keep things as 'photo realistic' as possible, though doesn't really have to be perfect - just don't want jagged edges or cartoon appearance.
I need to create the effect of crumpled paper WITH text on it. The image should look like somebody typed a letter on a typewriter, and then crumpled it up and opened it up again.It's easy enough to do the crumpled paper effect, but I'm having difficulty making the text conform to the myriad creases of the crumpled paper, so that it looks like the text actually was crumpled (because, after all, the text is now part of the paper).
I have tried a bunch of blending methods, but am having no luck. Do you think this might be a manual warping job?
I hope I can get this explained where it can be understood. I create and box with an outline of 4pt's. Then I want to snap the outline to the very edge of the outline and the guide, but it does not work this way. when the box snapped to the guide it goes to the middle of the outline. How to get this corrected or changed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have AutoCAD 2011. A previous employee of this company made a dwg that had a road map overlaid with some polygons representing areas of this or that. The road map was made of lines, polylines, etc. As I hovered the mouse over the roads they highlighted as if to be edited. My co-worker insisted that there was no way he drew the map and must have uploaded it.
The reason I am asking is a current project we have has many maps available as pdfs and other formats. I know how to upload a pdf as a back drop but do not know how I can upload anything not a dwg that can be edited or changed.
Is there a way to clean up an old newspaper picture in corel?
I'm not that good working with images i'm more of a vector man but I have been playing around with it but the results are not great.
The image itself is a typical grayscale newspaper image with halftoning and its gone a bit yellow over the years, all I want to do is get rid of the yellow and brighten it up a bit.
In the past, I've been able to take a pdf file, place it in Illustrator and then manipulate the text, objects, etc. For some reason I've been unable to do so with my new Illustrator CS6. Would this issue have something to do with the way the file has been scanned? Is there some way to open a pdf file in Illustrator in order to make edits?
View 10 Replies View RelatedIn Vers 2013, IV finally added the ability to manipulate a [3D] spline by dragging the control handles (way behind the curve on this one).
However, dragging "a" control handle causes several of the other control handles to shift as well. Puts a big limit on the ability to customize yout path. Splines are supposed to be one of the unrestricted free form tools for modeling.
Is there any way to turn this "feature" off ? I need and should be able to have discrete control on each control handle. (I had this way back in SW)
Also, there is no 'axis' for the control points unless you count the const lines that connect the control points and I don't. I should be able to select an axis and be able to shift the direction and level of influence of each side of the control point axis.
It seems to me there is a way of manipulating Inventor views using matrices. There are Matrix objects, and the cameras can get/set the view to World Matrix etc.
Is there any good documentation on this? I would like to mimic OpenGL behaviour in Inventor, for example applying translation matrices to the view in order to move stuff around.

This actually started out as a font, and I converted it to an object with paths using apple-shift-o. I'm wanting to get rid of the balloon around the lettering, but am having a real hard time doing so using the convential methods (ie cutting, deleting the anchor points). When I do this, it seems to interfere with the lettering. How I can accomplish this for a piece of text I converted to an object?
I am trying to send a file to a newspaper for print. Only thing is Illustrator makes the files massive.
A normal newspaper ad ends up to be 58MB when converted to PDF. When i make something in Indesign it only exports to about 8MB for PDF.
I'm trying to get use to it.But I just have the problem that somehow the axis are all very small.
Like the axis when I want to move, rotate, scale,... sth.
And the size stays, no matter if I dolly, therefore it's sometimes difficult to click the right axis.
I have an image, I was manipulating it, smudging etc. Then I selected the lasso to crop out the image. Then I wanted to go back and blur something else. But it wont let me. The lasso'd section of the image stays flashing, even when I double click it to stop it. I am stumped as to how to exit this function. I don't know why it doesn't just switch to blur when I press the BLUR button.
How can I get this to stop? It keeps interrupting my edits and I now have to do it all over again in a separate window as no matter how many times I undo the lasso section will not stop flashing!
I recently found GIMP and think it is amazing. I've been a PhotoShop user for years, and actually prefer GIMP. The one thing I can't seem to figure out is holding me back from using GIMP exclusively, and that is the Record Action feature. I have to manipulate about 100 pictures per day - simply resize a picture to 6x4" @ 300 dpi, save it, resize again at 100 dpi, put a 10 pixel; black border around it and save it to another directory. I can do this to a hundered picitures in about a minute with PhotoShop, but it takes quite a while with GIMP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn CS5, when you have locked objects within a group or layer, you can still select the whole group/layer at once. And with the group/layer selected, any transform/cut/etc will affect everything in the group/layer, including the locked objects.
But in CS6, it seems that you cannot select entire group/layer with locked objects -- the "selection circle" in the Layers panel will not show the double circle. And if you manipulate the group/layer now, only the unlocked objects within it will be affected; the locked objects will stay the same.
How can I revert back to CS5's behaviour?
