I have an ad layout I am working on for a horse owner. I have removed the horse from the background and would like to have it so that his image fades from top to bottom. I know I saw something on how to do a fadeout on an image, but I cannot find it. Any suggestions would be treated with GREAT appreciation!! Also, can this be done as a diagonal fade also???
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using CS5 Photoshop on a Mac OS X version 10.7.5 computer. I have recently re-opened a couple documents that I created a couple months ago, and found one layer on each doc was practically invisible. Odd that it is the same black and white key line drawing layer that is affected on each file; all other layers remain in tact.
I checked the opacity, layer eyeball, and all the settings and nothing makes a difference. In addition, I have turned off all other layers to make sure nothing is blocking it from view and it remains faded. I have duplicated the layer several times to make the image appear stronger; however, It barely makes a dent. It's as if the layer has slowly begun to evaporate!
I'm desiging a banner for a website and a big concern of mine is that the sidebar should fade into the black default background of the website.
It's a single layer, the image is 32 x 346 pixels and I'd like to know how to blend the bottom quarter or so of the multicolor sidebar to the default black.
When I use layer masks on photographs it tends to fade parts of the photo... why is this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn screen this show when doing a simple layer mask fade with the gradient tool. (notice the hard transition in the black) The if I flatten it it looks fine, like this.
I don't understand why all of a sudden it is doing this, same with brushes. Just seems to happen in the layer mask which is really deceiving.
Basicly when i try to erase a layer/rectangle tool to make a nice fade this is what happens: every time i try to erase it makes a huge black lining around the erased part as u can see .

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.
For instance, let's say I have a ...
BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.

I have an image of a dog that I'm editing. I took the photo in a studio with a white backdrop. I want to remove a shadow that is behind the dog so the whole background is white. I do not want to lose the detail in the fur of the dog. I've tried doing a mask layer with making the background white. I've also tried the dodge tool. I've tried the selection tool but it look out?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm a complete noob on PS... Using CS4 and i'm trying to make a stencil using threshold method. I've been following a tutorial by melissaclifton if you know it but am having problems. She says to duplicate the layer, drag a solid colour between them, and then cut away the background using pen tool.
I cut the image, after inversing it, and in the thumbnail it looks ok, but in the main view nothinjg happens. I expected to be able to see the solid colour backgroud as sooon as I hit delete. Cutting the image also caused me a few problems!
Does anyone know any other stencil and/ or simple layer cutting tutorials? I've searched a lot and am starting to lose patience.. Thought it would be simple (maybe it is!).
For some reason when I make a selection using CTRL+Click it never fully matches the cutout of the layer I am mimicking. There is always trim. I've posted a picture to best describe what is happening.
Fig A.
I've made a cutout using the background eraser. Because of this you can see how the cutout appears to be somewhat transparent around the edge.
Fig B.
When placed on 50% gray the hair trim is as detailed as I wanted. It's a satisfying result.
Fig C.
I now make a selected of this semi transparent cutout by cimply CTRL+Clicking the layer.
Fig D.
I now duplicate the original (not cutout) and use this selection to cutout again (don't ask why) but the cutout doesn't match 100%. It's close, but it simply doesn't match. I've also tried using this selection to make a mask on the non cutout image and the edge is exactly the same.
I thought some auto anti-alias may be turned on but I can't seem to find anything. I really need a duplicate of this cutout to match precisely.
There is no layer for the blue box. How can I fix that?

I have two layers. The lower layer is text. The upper layer is a pattern. I want to show the pattern on the text only, but do not want to show any of the text color (pattern is black, so is text). How can I accomlish this?
Currently I tried to apply the text layer as a clipping mask for the pattern layer but the text color shows through.
I work for a clothing company, and we use CorelDraw for mainly heat press, so usually we have our art in vectored format. A lot of our art are multiple layers, For example: if this smiley was made, the eyes and mouth are a separate, movable layer and the outer circle is another layer.
We are making a website and need everything to be in a single layer, (so it ends up one color) is there any way to merge the layers so that the eyes and mouth are apart of the circle?
I keep getting this error message (see below) whenever I try to make jpegs from my layer comps using File-->Scripts-->Layer Comps from Files. This error always comes up after Photoshop gets through 2 or 3 comps. I often have to select only a few layer comps at a time to get it to make jpegs. I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6.
Here is the message I get:
Error: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop. The object “layer comp 2054478963” is not currently available.
When i select a shape layer there is a white border to show its been selected. Is there a way to turn off this feature. I don't remember it present in previous PS versions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to make a layer from external reference current.
I tried to identify it with its full name, but I got an error: eInvalidInput. So I found out, I have to use only the part behind the pipe. But then there is a problem, because this name is not unique withing the drawing.
Any number of xrefs can have such layer and also the drawing itself can have a layer with the same name. How exactly can I set a layer from xref current?
example:
layer from xref1: Xref1|LayerName1
layer from xref2: Xref2|LayerName1
layer from the drawing: LayerName1

View 5 Replies View RelatedI cannot get an added layer to show slightly transparent. I like the effect of bringing the main layer to the front and having most of the focus there with a slightly transparent layer for text, etc. Every time I try to use the transparent/opaque slider in the layer panel, it does nothing until I cross the 50% threshold and then the layer just disappears if I go below 50%. I originally had a .gif, but I tried saving it as .png, and .xcf (gimp file) and it still would not work.
Interestingly, I tried it on another .png I had and it worked. Why would it not work sometimes and then work other times? I have attached an example file. I wam trying to make the new layer with text slight transparent.
EDIT: it will not let me upload the file, it eeps saying "undefined", but if you want an example of what I'm doing check out [URL] ...., my website with previous example of slightly transparent layers made in paint.net
