Photoshop :: Layer Pallete Always Closed By Default
Nov 18, 2008
I've question. On my CS4 the layer palette is always closed when I open CS4. Is there some way to set it to stay open? I tried to save a personalised workspace but it does not help.
I hope you know what I mean. It's a real pain since I work with layers a lot and I'm used to having the layer palette open right away. It's useless to have it closed anyway since there is not space to be gained down right where it usually sits.

When Photoshop opens, the layer panel starts closed so no layers can be seen, like this.
It should start opened, like this.
Even if the workspace is reset (e.g. 'Essentials (Default)'), it still happens after Photoshop is re-opened.
This issue only started occurring recently. MC CS6 PS, Windows 7 64-bit.

For the last few weeks I have been having problems with my photoshop. One day I opened it and all the layer styles (6 gigs worth) were just gone. No one knew how to restore them here so I did them all over again and saved 3 sets at 2gigs each. Now every single time I open Photoshop I don't have any layer styles and have to load them. I updated just now from CS5 to CS6 and the same thing.. I have opened and closed CS6 4x now and each time all my layer styles vanish upon opening.

I think I right clicked on the tab and did not realize what I was doing until I saw them in the upper right of the screen.
How can I get them back in the toolbar that I had before... the standard one.

I've noticed that my color pallete seems to give a wierd blue-green tint to everything that isn't solid white or solid black. I know that if I deselect the proof colors option that the image I'm working on acquires the tint. Which is another thing, all of the sudden Photoshop has decided that it doesn't want to keep the color proofing on all the time. What's odd about all this is it's just started happening today and I don't believe I've done anything to cause it. 'Elp, I'm being oppressed by Photoshop!

I have used PEDIT to join multiple polylines, which now appear as polylines. But when I use QSELECT to show all open (non-closed) section, one polyline still shows up as open.
I've attached the file I'm working on. The polyline in question is the green outline on the object on the right.

I have a layer that I used in every project of Adobe Photoshop and in that case I used to re-design that layer or copy the image of layer from another project. Is there any way to make that layer default that when I shall start a "new" project, that layer automaticaly fix at layer panel (same as first layer) ?

I swear I remember that there is a preference somewhere for turning off the automatic addition of Layer Masks for new Adjustment Layers, but I can't remember where I saw it. I'd like to disable the automatic creation of layer masks during addition of adjustment layers.

By default Adobe Photoshop creates new layers on top of the current layer. In the Western languages we read from top to bottom and left to right. So when I start creating a web site in Photoshop I start from top to bottom as well. However Photoshop creates the new layer above the current, which is the opposite of what I would like to do. I need Photoshop to create new layers below the current layer. I know by holding CTRL/COMMAND and clicking the NEW LAYER icon, will do what I need. However if I do CTRL+J to jump/duplicate the current layer, or select a layer and ALT+DRAG again to duplicate it, again it puts the new layers in top. Is there a way to reverse the default order Photoshop places layers? If not, I suggest that to Adobe implement an option in the general settings for Photoshop. Flash for example had similar option to read/place layers from top to bottom or bottom to top.

when you open, let's say a PNG file, it creates a default locked Background layer, fine, now edit it, turn it into Layer 0 for example, and save, again as PNG, ...the next time you open that file, you'll get your Layer 0 and not a Background layer, I definitely need to get rid off that behavior, I need that Background Layer to be there! PNG isn't a PSD or TIFF, why is Photoshop saving Layer infos? and where? in the PNG? in a Cache ? I tried a bit of things to retrieve that "Background layer" when opening but PS CS5 still stores that info somewhere...
What I want is to prevent Photoshop doing that. That is, the next time I'm re-opening a file that is not supposed to have layers (like a PSD or TIFF), it opens it with "Background Layer" ! and not Layer 0 if I already opened it / edited / saved in Photoshop.

how to unlink my "background" in the layers pallete from the other layers.
I am using photoshop CS2. on a mac OS X.
When i make changes to other layers in the layers pallete, it changes my 'background' as well. I know that i can duplicate it but regardless, the 'background' changes according to what i do to the other layers even tho it is locked.

Okay I am trying to make a homemade flip book in Photoshop CS5 and am trying to save the frames. I imported a video and converted it into individual layers for every frame.
Now I'm trying to save it by going to 'File > Scripts > Export Layer to Files' and there is no options in my Scripts tab at all.
When I go to 'File > Scripts' all that's in there is just 'Browse'.
Then when I click on 'Browse' it just takes me to the folder where I opened the PS file. How I can get the default scripts back? I don't even have any scripts to export layer comps, which is something I do frequently.

I was wondering if there was a way to assign layers to individual tools. In other words, if I want to use the linear dimension tool, upon clicking on the tool the layer would automatically switch over to my dimension layer without me having to manually change layers.
I am using AutoCAD LT 2013.

We are having an issue with CAD users putting their xrefs on any layer that is current; thus creating some layer control issues. I would like to make it so that when they go to attach an xref the layer is automatically set to the "XREF" layer and then possibly reset to the previous layer.

My questions is how to prevent the following from happening. I created a layer style drop shadow in a .psd file with the below parameters.
I saved it as an .asl file that I could use later. When I loaded it into a different .psd file later that day some parameters stayed the same but the angle reverted back to 30 degrees from 120 degrees all on its own as shown below.
I just want to know how to keep layer style parameters I saved in an .asl file from reverting back to defaults when loaded in to a new .psd file.
My systems parameters are as follows:
Photoshop CS6 Extend Version 13.0 x64
Mac OSX 10.8.2 with 705.44 GB used out of 749.3 GB available
The only other software I am running is Safari web browser. This is my first time trying to save a layer style and use it in a different .psd file other than the one I created it in.

I wanted to rename one of the default layer, "Visible," to "CUT" since that's what our plasma cutter looks for.
However, I created a copy of Visible named CUT. Now when I open a new drawing, I get the usual, "The following definitions in template Blah differ from the definitions in the style library..."
I know I could update each template, but I'd rather just delete the copied layer in the styles library. However, I don't see how. Any tips on removing my extra layer with out starting from scratch? Or how to rename a default layer?

Whenever I create a new autocad drawing or open an existing autocad drawing it seems to automatically set my layer to default of "dim" in lieu "0" or whichever last layer I was on before I closed and saved the file.
The same goes for XCLIPFRAME. For some reason XCLIPFRAME is automatically set at 2 in lieu of 0 whenever I open any existing autocad files (again it does not matter whichever state I saved the drawing in)
I've checked my default template dwt file and i've made sure these settings are right.
