Photoshop :: Incorrect Pantone Plus Values In CS6?

Jan 23, 2013

There is a noticeable difference between color values specified in Pantone books/Color Manager and CS6. For instance, the correct RGB value for Pantone 158 CP should be 228/126/26, whereas Photoshop's RGB value for the same color is 245/127/41.

I have a subscription to Creative Cloud and all applications are up to date. When will this be fixed?

Photoshop :: Analysis Measurement Gray Values Incorrect?

Jun 23, 2013

I'm trying to use the Image Analysis functionality of PS CS6 to obtain brightness levels from an image.

To test the "Gray Value" measurment, I've created 11 patches from 0%-100% in 10% increments. I used the fill tool (Shift-F5) and specified values using H=0, S=0, B=<percentage_value (0-100)>.

The respective RGB components of the generated patches are exactly as expected (255*percentage_value).

The measurements obtained through "Record Measurement", however, do not agree, with the exception of the 0% and 100% extremes, which are reported with 0 and 255, respectively.

Inbetween, there is disagreement which rises from 0 @ 0% to the highest (5 @ 50%) to then decrease again to 0 @ 100%.

Here is the series by which the reported Gray Values are too low (from 0% - 100%): 0, 3, 3, 4 4, 5, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0.

How come?

I've tried removing colour profiles (to exclude gamma encoding issues) and using different colour spaces and/or models, with no change in behaviour.

All my patches are pure gray so there shouldn't be any problem with unexpected colour weighting.

One funny observation I've made is that even though the patches are a 100% homogenous, PS reports different miminum and maximum values. For instance for the 50% brightness patch (RGB triples of 128, 128, 128), the report is MinVal=123, MaxVal=124, MeanVal=123.934809.

Clearly, the value for all three aspects should be the same, and I expect the value to be 128.

I'm using PS CS6, Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1 20120808.r.519 2012/08/08:21:00:00) x32, on Win 7.

Illustrator :: Can't Type Pantone Values In Color Picker With AI CS6

Jun 11, 2013

I'm running Design and Web Premium CS6 on a Windows 7 machine. I was recently using Ai's Recolor Artwork dialogue for a CMYK document. I wanted to convert my 4 color artwork to Pantone solid coated. I decided to chose some different Pantones. In older versions of Illustrator I could easily open the Color Picker, click on a Pantone value and then just type in a new value to scroll to it. This is no longer the case with Ai CS6.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimension Values Incorrect On Drawing?

Sep 6, 2013

I'm using Inventor 2013.  I created an assembly where I did a lot of top down modeling (meaning components in the assembly were created in the assembly.  All but a handful of the components are adaptive to other components).  When I went to make my drawings for having the components made, I started noticing that some of the dimension values were wrong.  I could go into the model and verify the features, but when dimensioning on the drawing it would not match.  Furthermore, this didn't occur on every dimmension on the drawing.  Not even half of them were incorrect, but it only takes one to really mess up a part.

I've attached a screen shot of what I'm seeing.  The 15.2 and 5 dimmension are correct, but obviously those don't add up to 31.37.  I know I can manually override this dimmension, but only if I know to do it.  I tried to do a drawing of another part in the same assembly and eventually found a similar problem.

Finally, I created a step file of the 1st part (to strip away the adaptivity) and when I created the drawing again, the problem went away.

My question is, is there something I did in the assembly / creation process that would have caused this?

Photoshop :: CMYK Pantone

Apr 9, 2009

My online printing outsource made a postcard containing my image and it came out about 1-1/2 stops too dark. When I questioned this I was advised as follows: "For best prediction of color output on a 4 color offset press, please compare your CMYK percentages with an industry-standard Pantone Process guide.">>This seems strange since a color image will have numerous different percentages of cmyk. I must be missing something. My friend who has the Pantone guide wants me to specify a Pantone number for use in comparing the image. I don't see how this can work for the same reasons (different colors, different percentages).>>The easiest solution I can think of is simply to brighten the image the next time I order postcards from this printer.>>

Photoshop :: Pantone Bridge Selections

Mar 27, 2013

I have had some trouble since installing Lion and CS6 with colours. A good example is 362 green. It is the client's corporate colour. The swatch book had cmyk values of 70c 0m 100y 9k. So did the swatch selection in InDesign CS4 and earlier OSX. The new values are now 73c 13m 100y 1k. Quite a different colour. On screen and print.

I am tempted just to rename the colour as 'Client X green' and use the old values. I just wonder if I should say "Mr Client, Adobe and Pantone have changed your colour" and not interfere.I have tried using Pantone Bridge selections, but they are different again.

Photoshop :: PMS To RGB: Pantone Says PMS145C=R202...

Jan 15, 2008

I have (for example) an object set to spot color PMS 145 C 100% solid in an Adobe Illustrator drawing.

According to my Pantone Color Bridge Coated swatchbook, PMS 145 C "translates" to R 202 G 119 B 0.

BUT, if I "open" that AI file in Photoshop, and eyedropper that spot in the drawing, the RGB "translation" comes in as R 229 G 142 B 26.

I'm using CS2, and with Photoshop Color Settings at the default "North American General Purpose 2" at open time.

If I open the AI file as 300ppi CMYK, the spot color "translates" to the RGB values as above.

If I do this same operation with Photoshop set to open the AI file as 300ppi RGB, the same color eyedrops as R 230 G 143 B 26 (which is close, but not the same).

But NEITHER of these are the same as what Pantone publishes as the "official" equivalent RGB to the Spot color.

Why the discrepancy between Pantone's published equivalent and what Photoshop does?

Photoshop :: Default Brushes Incorrect?

I've recently installed CS4 on my new Vista machine. After setting up my Wacom tablet, installing all the appropriate software I find Photoshop is not responding to me pen sensitivity as it has on my previous machine (Mac with CS1). Specifically I'm thinking the default brushes are incorrect, specifically I use the hard brush that by default should go from small - large- small. Thinking I was missing a setting I compared both side by side and sure enough my settings for default brushes are the same on both machines but I'm not getting the dynamic brush that I had on my Mac. Below is a screen shot I found online of what i'd like to have in my setup. in yellow is where I'd like to get to but at the bottom of the image is where I'm at currently. Any help would be appreciated. I just know the solution is going to be so simple that I'll bang my head on the desk when I get it.
