Photoshop :: Images Opened In CS5 Has Blue-tinted Grayscale
Dec 2, 2012
I was using Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) fine yesterday but today each image I open shows a loss of colour, everything looks like a blue tinted grayscale. The same with RAW files opened in ACR and all files opened in Bridge. When I open a JPEG version in Microsoft Image Viewer the colour is fine.In Windows, the thumbnails look fine with full colour in the folders. The loss of colour only happens when the image files are opened in Photoshop, Bridge and ACR.

I have an app on my iPod called "Photoshop Express", and it has the simple option of 'Tint', which will tint the image the color you want (red, green, etc.). How do you do this on normal, desktop Photoshop?
No fancy "how I like it", I want just the image to be tinted red, or green, or blue, and the image have the color info, meaning if I convert it to Black and White, you could tell a difference in lightness and darkness from the original picture (you can tell it was tinted).

I have a new Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, running Windows XP.
I'm the editor (copywriter, proofreader, layout person, etc., etc., etc.)for a quarterly journal for a non-profit organization. The journal is created pretty much entirely with PageMaker 6.5, with the photos being worked in PhotoShop 7.0. I know... XP and PageMaker 6.5 have some problems, but I never have or had this problem with my desktop, and the few problems I do have, I've managed to get around.
What's happening is, when I convert an image to grayscale in PhotoShop, it doesn't appear grayscale on my monitor... it has a blue hue to it... it also looks that way placed in the PageMaker publication. I'm sure it's just some simple setting on the laptop, but I haven't a clue what it is or where it might be or how to change it so that when I tell it grayscale, I actually SEE grayscale (not bluescale!). It's important that I see (at least relatively closely) how it will look in grayscale so I can adjust the contrast, levels, etc., as many of the photos are 100 years old and so need quite a bit of "playing with" in PhotoShop.

I've been trying to solve this problem for the past months. Everytime I needed our company logo, but everytime it failed and I setteled for the low resolution blue logo I allready have.
So far I tried combinations of the following:
changing .tiff into .PSD
grayscale into CMYK
changing hue and saturation
1 goto Layer - New adjustment layer - Curves - change the blend mode to "Screen"
2 goto Layer - New adjustment layer - Curves - change the blend mode to "Multiply"
this all results in a slightly lighter or darker picture, but no color..
Heinthis is the actual image

OS: Windows XP
Gimp v 2.8
Not sure when this started happening since the last time I used Gimp was about a week or so ago and everything was fine at that point... Now when I open these ".xcf" files I've been working on in Gimp I see this strange Blue Scribble that is showing in the same location for pretty much all the xcf files I opened.
I went through every layer in the "Layers" window and made each one NOT visible in an attempt to see if it was something on one of the layers, but it remained there even after ALL layers were no Longer visible. I also created a new xcf file, saved it, then re-opened it in Gimp and NO scribble was there...
If I export one of the files showing the Blue Scribble into any other format and then re-opened it in Gimp the Blue Scribble is gone too.

If you have an image that is in RGB or CMYK mode and you want it to be a sharp looking B&W, rather then simply going straight to greyscale, first convert it to Lab Colour. Then while in Lab, go to your Channels window and delete the last two channels. Your image will now be in B&W. Now you can convert it to greyscale.
Now I know all you skeptics who just tried it didnt see a lick of difference. The truth is, rarely are you going to see a dramatic change, rather it is very subtle, but the improved quality is there. The greys are a bit richer then before. It also depends on your image as well.

RAW images opened in CS2, Bridge or Lightroom have bands of different colors depending on the image and are unusable. Running Windows Vista 32 on Dell Desktop 531 w/2g of ram. Have been searching but haven't found a solution. I have not called Adobe yet.
Lightroom stopped running on Vista 32 windows error message says "Lightroom has stopped running windows is searching for a solution to the problem". At the same time Lightroom works fine on my laptop running Vista 32.

I have new laptop with Photoshop cs4. I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M 2G hard drive in the lap top. The colors look great in everything but Photoshop. Everything in Photoshop has a yellowish almost sepia toned tint. I have been trying to figure out what is wrong for several day... (and several hours for several days). I understand that Photoshop color corrects, but if I have de-saturated an image why does it still look sepia in Photoshop and B&W everywhere else?

I'm used to open my photos as smart objects. So I open them in Camera Raw, edit and open in Photoshop CS6 as smart objects.
My issue is:
In CS6 when I double click the photo and open it again in Camera Raw, I can't find a way to save the edits. I mean, if I close the photo in CS6 and open it again, Camera Raw keeps only the edits I made the very first time I opened the photo.

I have just moved over to Photoshop CS6 from Elements 10. One thing I can't work out how to do is to have PS automatically convert opened files to RGB, exactly like PSE does.

Images opening from LR to PS6 are opened as CR2 files (canon) and then saved in PS - the resulting saved images are PSD files. These files are not added to the LR catalog without re-importing them. This behavior is different than it was in CS5 - in CS5 they are opened as PSD and immediately added to the LR catalog. I want the same bahavior in CS6. In LR I have set preferences to open files as PSD but they are not PSD until they are saved in PS.

All of my images are now importing into Lightroom3 and Photoshop CS5 with a blue cast. I have reformatted the SD card, tried with other SD cards, re-calibrated my monitor with X-Rite colorometer, changed monitors, tried with another camera, changed card readers. The images appear as shot in Bridge, but when opened they come in with the blue cast. The same images import properly on my laptop. I'm shooting sRGB in camera and have tried a number of different shots, so artificail lighting is not the issue. All images that are already on my hard drive import properly. I was working in LR when this occurred, so, I think I must have inadvertently mades some alteration to the settings while working in LR. However, opening PS separately and bringing an image in independent of Lightroom has the same result. Images appear as shot in Adobe Bridge, then open with the blue cast.

I have a file that will only be printed using one plate for black ink. The style mimics a newspaper, so there is lots of black text and then a few images.
I converted the images to RGB black and white in PhotoShop and placed them in the Corel file. When I export this as a PDF, of course traces of CMY show up in the PDF, so the printer would like them to be true grayscale.
I tried converting the images to grayscale in PhotoShop and replacing them in the Corel file. There is no visible difference in the files onscreen in either PS or CD. When I export to PDF or EPS, the images become washed out and flat, though the text remains a true black. If I try exporting a grayscale PDF or EPS from the original Corel file with the RGB images, then the images are less washed out, though still not ideal, but the text is no longer a true black. I also tried printing to PDF with PDF Creator, and I have the same problem.
I have a workaround (export as TIFF, select all except the images and bring the text back to true black, then export as PDF), but this seems nuts. What I really don't understand is why the RGB images and grayscale images would export so radically different when they look identical in PhotoShop and in Corel Draw.

today i'm using a batch file to load paint.net with the images name in the command line.
(this is my workaround)
however since i add images , I sometime forget to add those image names to the batch file, and they do not load.
so is there a way to add to paint.net the option to automatically load upon start the " last open images"
ie. the last images that were open before the program exited ?

We used to use version 4 at work and loads of images drawn, my boss has converted to version 12 but when we open the drawings now all the text is in the wrong place and too big etc.
I have been given the task of fixing them all and wondered if there was an easy fix rather than clicking on each text box and changing each bit one by one, sitting with my fingers crossed.

Some of the images I have taken with my Olympus 7010 still camera, when opened up in PSPro X, are not showing correctly.A portion of the image is sectioned and the smaller part of the image has moved along horizontally, the effect being that for instance, a person's head is not on the body but further along the image. This only happens now and again but is annoying, the last time 2 out of 24 images were like this. They were loaded on to my pc via the camera's card,in a card reader.

The following code will explain how it works:
[CommandMethod("RenderFromFile")]public static void RenderFromFile(){string dwgPath = @"C:TempRender.dwg";string imagePath = @"C:TempRender.png";Document doc = Application.DocumentManager.Open(dwgPath);RenderToFile(doc, imagePath);}
[Code]....
The command RenderFromFile will render the 3D drawing file at C:TempRender.dwg (see this file from attachment), and then write the output image to Render.png at the same folder. The rendered image is on the top view and has visual materials.
The command RenderCurrentView will render the current open 3D drawing, then write the output image to C:TempRender.png. The rendered image is on 3D view and does not have visual materials.
Both two commands call the same shared method RenderToFile(), but their output images are different. I don't know why they are different?
Method RenderToFile is a simplified version from Kean's code. I try to make the code short and simple to easily solve the problem.

Images that are opened or psds that are imported are resized into an artboard that is smaller then the image. With raster image formats, the following behavior occurs:
For a jpg that is 1000x800px an artboard is opened at 1000x800px and an additional artboard at 360x288px with the actual raster image is created.

When I open a high resolution image in Ai they look somewhat distorted and choppy. They are jpeg files that I am placing in order to envelope distort onto a mesh. For some reason any bitmap image I open with Ai looks like this. However, when I open the same image with Acrobat Pro or Ps the image looks perfect. Images are RGB in both apps.
Image in Ps or Acrobat Image in Illustrator
There most be something in Illustrator that is causing this. Images are being embedded and cannot be linked since they need to be distorted. I am runnung CS6 on Intel iMac Maveriks.

I have a problem with the display of images that come out too blue. The thumbnail looks correct but the large preview image has too much blue. I have processed the same raw images in other software with no issues but this seems to be an issue with Paint Shop Pro. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?
Once I open the image the image in the raw converter it shows the color balance "As Shot" as a different value that what the Adobe software reads. Not sure why. You can try and adjust the blueness out of the image but why do I need to do this all the time when I don't have to in other programs.
If I open any image in the full editor the thumbnail takes on this too blue look as well, even if no color adjustments were made.
I have attached 2 screen shots that show the problem.

I recently opened a project I worked on months ago and noticed certain materials in my rendered images had turned blue. I created a new rendering in which all materials came out great and I saved it. Minutes later I opened the new rendering and it too became blue. I worked on this project for months and have not made any changes to materials. All previously saved images in my file, the wall materials, stairs, and certain furniture have all turned blue.
