Photoshop :: Getting Colour And Visual Consistency In Multi GIF / JPG Image
May 16, 2012
I'm frequently creating .gif and .jpg images for web ads and these have to be within a strict 40KB size limit which is often tricky for larger formats. Now a new 'fireplace' format has been created that is an ad that is an image frame around the sides and top of a web page, consisting of two vertical pieces each side of the page and a horizontal bar along the top that links both the side pieces into a single seamless image. This means that I have to create three separate image files, each of which has to be less than 40KB and because each of these pieces is also quite large I will have to carefully adjust the images settings in 'Save for Web and Devices' to get the file size within this limit. My main problem, however, is how do I do that whilst ensuring that the visual consistency between the images is such that it isn't noticable where the three separate pieces join?
For example, if the side pieces have radically different style and colour of content to each other and the top part, saving these as separate .gif files could result in each file having a different indexed colour palette and number of colours etc, making the separate pieces look visually different and the places where they join look really obvious and clumsy.
What steps do I take to keep within the file size for the images whilst keeping the images looking seamlessly consistent? This isn't as much of a problem in .jpg but there may be times when using .gif is more efficient - is there a way to save an indexed colour palette for .gif and apply it across multiple files?
The master file is created as a single image in Photoshop CS4 and later split into three files which are saved as .gif or .jpg.

I made a coloured square in PS. I saved it as a JPG. I saved it as a PNG. I saved it as a PSD. I dragged all three of these into InDesign. The JPG and the PSD were the same colour. The PNG was different. Now, before you all say that PNG's do funny things to colours, let me just say that the PNG was the ONLY one out of the three that matched a coloured square I made in InDesign with the same RGB values as what I made in PS. Both programs were using the same colour settings.
Just for interests sake, I tried the same experiment in Illustrator. Interestingly, I had no problems in Illie - all 3 (JPG, PNG and AI) files were the same colour as each other AND the same colour as the test square in InDesign.
I design graphics for Scrapbooking kits which I am beginning to sell and need both JPGS and PNGS (because of transparency) for these kits. AND I need the colour to be consistent. I also design in Illustrator (where there appeared to be no problems), but obviously there are some things that are simply not possible in Illustrator.

I have received a new logo from our brand developers. The spec is
C - 0
M - 98
Y - 75
K - 22
or Pantone 1805
or R - 191
G - 49
B - 26
I get a different colour depending on which spec I use, and if I sample a digital document, a fourth variation on red. Am I just not understanding these colour specs? I want to be able to reproduce the logo on printed documents, and use it for embroidery on clothing. I also need to produce adobe pdf files and jpegs to email copy to advertisers.

It's the perennial problem with print-on-demand – inconsistent quality, particularly in the images. In the latest proof received, there are 24 B&W images, all quite similar in values, all 7x7cm. Despite all images seeming to have a very similar range of values, the proof came back with 4 pics looking absolutely brilliant (when one has an idea of what to expect from POD process) and the rest, not mediocre, but dramatically inferior. Blacks and crispness of the the four good images are excellent, while the rest are washed out with poor contrast.
When viewing the images on screen or printed out, the inconsistency in values isn't apparent (not that this is a method to judge what to expect from POD); the results are at least stable. I might hope for some of that consistency in the printed book, revealing poor or better quality across the board, when similar images are present. Perhaps the printer makes selective adjustments to some – which is to be checked, but until then, what are the fundamentals of optimizing images for POD?

Any way of forcing an update of the colour styles from the original Multi-Body part to the assembled/derived components.
I always control colours in the original Multi-body part as I can select groups in one go to change colours, this doesn’t filter down to the derived/assembly component I then have to go into each part and uncheck then recheck the 'Use color override from source component'.
I am aware of the reg file/vba to remove the source override completely but which works for certain ways of working / problems, but I want to control it from the original part which I assume was the way it was intended as it is the default option!

I am designing a T Shirt for my ski club.I have taken an image from a banner (made in illustrator, full colour image attached) and I want to devide into a 3 colour image for the t shirt (I am only allowed 3 colours for printing). The colours I want to use are black, white and purple. The colour of the t shirt is a light blue.I want to then put the purple logo on top of the white and black too.So I'm after a black and white grunge background with a punchy purple logo on the top.All of this should be on a tranparent or, for design purposes, light bue (same as T Shirt colour) background.
how to split a full colour image into using only 3 (4 including transparent/light blue background) exact colours.
If I were going to black and white I might convert to grey scale and then paint areas to fully white or fully black using an overlay brush I don't think this works for me for more than just black and white though.
I have attached two of my attempts where I used the colour range selection and level adjustments. Niether was really successful though (one does not use the right colours or number of colours but looks quite cool).

I've been asked to convert an image to 2 colour for printing. I have the image as a full colour CMYK layout (with layers), but the whole thing needs to be converted to 2 colour. I have the pantone reference numbers for the 2 colours it is to be converted to. I am familiar with the hue/saturation tool, but this just seems to convert it to one colour, and you have no fine control over the exact colour you want.

I use EdHarvey's colour tint tool and it changes colour of the whole image, I'm looking for something similar but it only changes selected colour, so that the image is left with mutiple colour scheme rather than just one, any addon that can do this?
From this example, you can see the figure on the right is in a brownish colour scheme, what tool can I use in order to make it's colour scheme blue like the figure on the left?

I am working in PhotoShop CS in CMYK. I am satisfied with my colors in PhotoShop, but when I import the graphics into InDesign, the colors dull considerably. I take this to mean they will print similarly.
I have had issues with getting my CMYK files to print like they look on screen. Does anyone have any tips on how I could get what I see on the screen to match more closely what will come out of the printer?

I have some my own Icons on my Toolbar in Autocad that prepared by myself,
I can define tooltip for those icons by "Description" property of icons in CUI.
but the limitation is: I will have just single-line and simple tooltips!
so, how can I define multi-line tooltips for my own icons? or even graphical tooltip?!
should I use "Zammel" language?

I'm somewhat new to Edge Animate and I'm trying to incorporate simple animation into a DPS piece that my company has been publishing for the past year. A few questions:
1) Is there a "trick" to getting transparencies to work? I've had zero luck so far and I'm beginning to resign myself to just putting the entire design into the Edge composition as a work around. There must be an easier way? I'm hoping I'm missing something simple and obvious. From my research, I've gleaned that the poster image feature is a major player in all the headaches. Speaking of which, do you have to start over and rebuild a comp everytime you need to publish without a poster?
2) I've noticed that playback is really inconsistant. Most of the time, when I first swipe on a page, the animation won't play at all. Subsequent swipes, and it begins playing fairly consistency.
3) Finally, is there any guidelines for SVG settings used in Edge? I found that many of the vector files I was using in comps were messing w/playback, so I ended up subbing them out for pngs.

I want to entmake a block with a multiline attribute. Entmaking the block definition works fine, but what do I code for the Multiline Attribute? Should it be coded (0 . "MTEXT") instead of (0 . "ATTRIB")? I know (101 . "Embedded Object") does not work. What other codes need to be included?

I have been working on an AutoLISP routine which is intended to:
1) collect input from the user via a DCl dialog box
a) Create a List of the non-null "GROUP_CODE..." variable values collected from the dialog's settings
b) Create a List of the "ESN***#_Part" variable values collected from the dialog's settings (does the List elements' order need to be reversed after collecting them?)
2) Prompt the user to select an insertion point
3) Insert a Block named "ESN-CONTROL-WIRED" which has multiple attributes
a) Apply the first List element collected at step 1.a above to the attribute tag "INPUT_ADD" in the block
b) Apply the first List element collected at step 1.b above to the Attribute Tag "PART_NUMBER" in the block
4) Insert a second instance of the Block named "ESN-CONTROL-WIRED" below the first instance
a) Apply the second List element collected at step 1.a above to the attribute tag "INPUT_ADD" in the block
b) Apply the second List element collected at step 1.b above to the Attribute Tag "PART_NUMBER" in the block etc. .... keep inserting the block "ESN-CONTROL-WIRED" below the previous on until all the input from the dialog has been displayed in the attributes.
Notes:
The Dialog's pop-up lists are populated from external .TXT files which reside on our network (or alternate local C: drive folder if no network drive is found)
Inside the file "ESN_SENSORS_NUMBER.LSP", it is the function "ESN_APPLY_TAG" which I am struggling with how to write...
find inside the .ZIP file:
- (2) example screenshot .BMPs showing dialog box settings and what the resulting output in AutoCAD should look like
- (1) ESN_SENSORS_NUMBER.LSP
- (1) ESN_SENSORS_NUMBER.DCL
- (1) ESN_SENSORS_NUMBER.DWG with a sample output - and the definition of the block ESN-CONTROL-WIRED
- (1) ESN-OCC.txt which populates the PopUp List Boxes
- (1) ESN-DAYLT.txt which populates the PopUp List Boxes
- (1) ESN-IR.txt which populates the PopUp List Boxes

Is there a way to modify the text insertion point of multileaders using lisp? We have a problem with some of our multileaders getting a landing distance set to a negative value. My lisp routine will correct these to a default value, but then the text jumps a bit. If I could get the insertion point prior to changing the landing distance then I could restore that point after changing the landing distance.

Looking for starting point to writing a routine that will open blocks in a drawing and change the colour. We receive drawings from clients with their blocks and would like to have them changed to our company colours.
So basically, i am looking for something that would within a drawing, change every block to a specific color without exploding and redefining. The colour changes will be the same throughout new drawings.

Lisp program, by selecting on screen multiple block attribute and to change those selected (by picking) attributes to colour 252.
At the moment, I'm using a custom macro : ^C^C-ATTEDIT C;252;;
But if I've got a lot of attributes to change, it takes awhile to complete.
I know about BATTMAN but I do not want to change the block entities in that way. The reason I want to change the attributes to colour 252 is because here at this company we do existing drawing in colour 252 and any new equipment on its proper layer colours.

I'm sure I'm trying to do something fairly basic here but the manual doesn't seem to work for me re canvas re-sizing (unless I'm missing something).
I want to take several images straight from the camera (say 3-4Mb each) and combine them to eventually make a single JPEG. Is this done by resizing canvas? Is it a case of taking one image and resizing the canvas or starting with a blank new canvas?

do the people know if you can find matching colours in one image? as in i find a colour with certain RGB dimensions, can i find the same or 'roughly' the same colour and whereabouts the same colours are, in the same image.
the problem is im trying to paint a picture and i want to know which colours are the same so it correspsonds almost exactly when complete (its quite a fiddly picture so correct colours are essential)
