I have a small problem with a big-generated contour in PS CS5. Sometimes my nature photos coming through art and other filters, and seeking interesting shapes, etc. So far, no problem, some filters only work in 8-bit mode, etc. But I came across a filter contour (stylization). I created from photos with this filter contour - (gray outline on a white background), all OK so far, but the problem came when I wanted to darken the contour. Any tool - curves, levels, brightness, after application darken again after saving back into its original form it is a gray outline. I also tried to duplicate the layer, darkening with blending, etc. everything is always returns after merging layers to its original color - gray. I also tried the contours of other photos and the result was always the same, but the contour is already created with it could not be any load, change it.
Progress of work: try to do it by the following procedure: a new image as jpg. Create the image contour (filter-styling-contour). There are several lines of color. I'll try to make adjustments - curves, levels, brightness (I try to highlight contours) and after flattening layers changes back to its original state. Transfer only in black and white to change after merging layers appear properly incurred and gray lines. I want them to darken as through the levels, etc. but again, the resulting graphics will become gray.
Some background: We have a composite surface of existing surveyed contours as a TIN pasted into existing aerial contours that we received from a client. We used polylines to generate our proposed contours, and then generated a proposed surface from that. We've made a blank surface, pasted in the existing surface, and are trying to paste in our proposed surface... only the existing contours outside of the proposed suface no longer line up correctly once we do.
We've tried applying the method laid out here: [URL] ........ (and the link referenced in the bottom) but are still having trouble getting the surface to work. We've tried offsetting as little as 0.25' and as much as 5' with the feature line draped over the existing surface, but it seemed that the greater the offset, the greater the discrepancy.
Just to make sure we even tried that correctly - should the breaklines that we add be standard or non-destructive? (I've tried it both ways with little success either way, so I don't know if it matters much in this instance, but perhaps for future reference it would work.)
I've attached a screen shot of our surfaces. The pink and green lines are the proposed contours, the white dashed are the existing. The outer red line is offset 0.25'. As I've mentioned, we've tried offsetting various amounts with decreasing success.
I tried to use the lens flare filter in Photoshop CS6.While the lighting effect is interesting, it introduces ugly artifacts like blue or orange blobs (which are supposed to be the reflection of the diaphragm, but do not look anywhere close to that, but instead are just cheesy looking blobs of color).
In the "movie prime" setting blue lines are added which have nothing to do with lens flar.On top of it, the preview is about the size of a stamp. Any way to use the filter without getting these artifacts, or is it - what I assume - just a useless toy filter, that has probably been dragged on for years and years because it's always been there? What do you use to create a lens flare effect? Are you just building it from scratch with brush work?
I've deleted my PS preferences and restarted, and I cannot get this filter to do what is was just doing a day earlier. It doesn't matter what the foreground/background colors are, nor does it matter what the resolution of the file is. I've experimented with every variable. The filter effect changes the filled layer to a solid color of the current foreground color. No lines, dots or circles at all.
I'm trying to make lines in a filled layer, or a rasterized text layer.Adjusting the sliders has no effect at this point, but the other Gallery filters DO work, oddly enough.
I've used this filter effect many times over the years, and it just started acting wonky. This is PS CS6, on Mac OSX 10.8.5.It seems to be unpredictable or temperamental. Is there a reasonably-priced plugin that will create lines that are completely adjustable?
I have Photoshop CS4 running on a 8 gig Vista 64 bit system. When I click on Filters, there is no Extract Filter. I did a search prior to posting and saw some threads talking about not moving files, icons etc from their original folder. I am un sure if anything has been moved. However, when I click on Filters, they all seem to be there (at least not greyed out), EXCEPT for the Extract filter. Any help would be apprecited and if you let me know where the filters should reside I can make sure they are in the correct location.
The starting point: I have a JPG image of a battlefield wherein the height contours in feet are marked as faint lines (like a closed contour line for 390 feet, another for 420 feet, etc etc.)
The desired final product in Photoshop: A grayscale RAW document that shows the height variations in gray tones. Low lying troughs need to be darker and higher elevations need to be lighter. See picture below for example:
I am ignoring the roads and other features in the battlefield. All I am interested is the technique of converting the height contours into a smoothly varying grayscale image.
I am a complete Neanderthal when it comes to Photoshop. I do have a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 on my PC. I have been toying around with the package on and off. But nothing useful has come out yet.
Now to my specific questions
*How do I bring in the height contours into Photoshop? I have tried the magnetic lasso tool and able to trace a height contour with good fidelity. I am kind of stuck at this point. Do I save the selection to a new layer? Do I thus create one layer for each of the height contours? Say one layer for the all the 390 feet contours, another layer for the 420 feet contours, one more for the 360 feet contours etc etc?
*Assume that I have somehow brought in all the height contours successfully into a new Photoshop document. How do I create a gradient effect between the contours? The lowest height in the map is 300 feet and the highest areas are at 480 feet. Thus the area enclosed by the 300 feet contour lines needs to be darkest (pitch black) and the area enclosed by the 480 feet contour lines needs to be lightest (pure white). The areas in between need to go progressively from dark to light shade. How do I achieve this?
*Assume that I have created now a PSD document that has these smoothly varying grayscales. How do I convert this to a RAW image?
When constructing my contours in the site plan, they are not visible. The graphic visibility shows they are visible. When I go to the 3d views the contours are visible.
Im trying to make a 3d model of a site in AutoCAD and it seems lofting between some contours is impossible, this is driving me insane, first it told me there was a U and V derivative problem so i loft the surfaces that i could but now there is a gap where it refuses to loft and i cannot create a surface in that gap using network or blend or pach.
i'm exporting a surface from 2013 to be used in 2010 for presentation. works great but the contour interval is not the same as the surface i'm exporting. working in 5/25 contours...xml import comes in with 2/10 contours. looked for a setting but can't seem to find.
I'm drawing a topo and trying to figure out a way to manually smooth out my contours. I'm not talking about the little jagged edges that you can remove if you use the smooth surface option under surface properties but the big ugly looking jumps you see when contouring a relatively flat lot. In the ancient version of AutoCAD my company used the contours came in almost like splines and you could move the vertices around to make them look good. I know you can go in and delete some TIN lines and edit point elevations but that is very time consuming and I'm hoping there is a quicker way.
I know I can extract them into polylines but there are too many little segments to be useful. I've seen the SIMPLIFY SURFACE option and while that takes away some of the roughness it creates some as well. Is there some better option than extracting and then drawing a spline between the parts I want to smooth out? These contours don't need to be 100% accurate, I just need them to look simple, like if someone was drawing them by hand.
I have added contours to my surface (the blue lines). For some reason the surface generated contour (the orange line) is jumping across the contours I've added.
My TIN surface either did not generate contours or did not display them on my drawing. I created and tried surface styles of many contour intervals(from 0.5' and 4' to 2' and 10') without success. I made sure my contour layers on both the Style Dialog box Display Tab and Layer Properties Manager were turned on, still no success.
I'm trying to label elevations on some large contours.
The problem i'm having is that 'multi line' does not give me enough elevations, while 'advanced placement' gives far to many elevations for mapping and plotting purposes. Is there a way to have more control on how Map labels contours?
When I generating contour(surface) using Civil 3D it gives very complicated contours. Some times those contours cuts each other and have very strange shape.
I used to use SURFER software to generate contours. It gives simple contours. But I like to use Civil 3D because.
I attached SURFER contours and Civil 3D contours. I also attached AutoCAD file those who using older versing of Civil 3D.
I know how to smooth contours in Civil 3D but it does not solve my problem. You may say "You should use commands like swap edge, delete line .
I want to color fill between contour lines. Most of the plug-ins I have tried only color the actual contour lines. Some of the large stand-alone packages say that they do it, however most are beyond my maker financial reach.
So my queries are: can this be done within any AutoCAD package? Are there any known plug-ins that can do this?
Or will I have to commission a customized plug-in. The image below is an example of the color fill required.
We have a total of three machine at our office that are running 64-bit Windows 7 with Civil 3D 2013. Two of the three machines have problems with drawings that include AECC_Contours. When you try and start a polyline or line the mouse will begin to jump and lag. As you move the cursor off of the AECC_Contours the mouse returns to normal operation. I have looked around throughout forms and have yet to find anything that relates to this. Also I have disable Aero within Windows, thinking that may have been the issue. All three machines are running the same version of Civil 3D with the latest service pack.
While working in a drawing with civil 3D points and a surface created from those points, once in a while the contours will disappear. The contours disappear during any number of different commands, so it doesn't seem to be linked to a specific set of commands. If we save the drawing, close it, and then open it back up the contours are there with no problems. Is there a fix for it beyond closing and reopening the drawing. We are using Civil 3D 2010 in our office, and all of the current updates.
Im working in Civil 09. I need to adjust the surface I created in order for the contours to be correct. Right now I'm interpolating point elevations to adjust the contours. I find myself adding lines and adding and deleting points. It's tedious. I tried changing the grid spacing to smaller one. It didn't seem to work.
I have a surface with a bunch of contours. I want to view the contours at elevation 550. In Microstation there is a set display depth command. Is there a tool in autocad where I can view certain elevations.
I want to make layouts/viewports that are clipped to different elevations. For example I have a surface with 5' contours. I want to create multiple viewports on a sheet showing what each contour looks like at its elevation.

I encountered a problem while creating contours from the points. what actually is the problem with the points or tell the steps once again that would be great. I'm attaching the points file.
