View 1 RepliesI just did a batch rename in CS2 on my Mac from 001 to 300. Everything worked fine except for one thing. Right in the middle of the 300 images PS added the following - 140 (1) to 179 (1). Does anyone know why parentheses were added to that group of images?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI take pictures of a swim team and I keyword tag each image with the swimmers name. I would like to batch rename and save in a new folder the files so they have the original filename and then the keyword name.
I don't see that as an option in the metadata drop down or any of the other drop downs. Is there a way to do it? I have exported it and included the metadata information and from my PC I can see it in the lower picture data, but I am sharing with a Mac user and it is easiest if the name of the swimmer is in the filename. I have over 1100 pictures and renaming them manually would be too time consuming.
I would like to automate of saving, renaming, closing open documents then placing them in a seperate folder after I'm done adding watermarks to my images. The problem I'm coming across is that the action i have renames all the files using the same name (whatever example/file I used when I recorded the action).
So even though the original file names are 123.jpg, 124.jpg, 125.jpg and I want them to be renamed as 123c.jpg, 124c.jpg, 125c.jpg all of them gets renamed 122c.jpg.
I'm not sure how to do a screen shot, so here is the skinny on what I have done...
Under the Batch window I marked the following:
Play:
Set: Set1
Action: Watermark Save & Exit
Source: Opened Files
Destination: Folder Desktop/Watermarked Pictures
Override Action "Save As" Commands (box is checked)
File Naming: "Document Name+c+extension
Starting serial #1
Errors: Stop for Errors
what I did wrong??
I use CS4 if that matters.
I have a 4000 images (spread across 5 folders) who's file names are all prefixed with 'Rex_'. I need to remove this prefix but would rather not do it manually. Is there an automated way to do this, where the existing file name remains the same, but the Rex_ is deleted?
I have looked into the Batch Rename element of Bridge but that doesn't seem to cover the deletion of existing file name sections. I am working on a PC using CS6.
When i rename files in batch in Bridge CS6 the extension from my files is deleted, leaving me with exec files. Sometimes the new name is given but the extension disappears and other times the new name i wanted to give my files appears in place of the extension.
I have had this problem for a while in combination with a cache problem (every time when opening bridge it asked me to purge the cache). I seemed to be solved by renaming the cache folder cache_old and creating a new one but now the batch renaming problem has returned.
Windows 7 - 64Bit , CS 6, Illustrator 64Bit.
As the title says I am running a AI -> JPG export through the batch action process and my files are saved without an extension. ie. "file" not "ai", "jpg", "png" etc.
However, yes adding the extension manually or through third party software results in a perfect jpg as I required but that step should not be needed. What am I missing?
Oh, and yes I have tried to change the destination folder to something completely empty to avoid duplicate issues but I still get the same result. If I run the simple "Export" portion of my action the file is exported with a file extension without issue, only it fails that step when running the batch process.
(Also i've used photoshop batch process for years so I do have some knowledge that i'm doing this correctly but this is my first attempt with Illustrator.)
I am finding that if I select a range of files to rename that already have numbers at the end, say 1 - 12, it is changing the order of the files and seeing the files numbered 10 - 12 before the file numbered 2. I am pretty sure it didn't work this way in X3.
I don't have X3 installed any longer.
This is the issue:The other day i got an error message in Photoshop saying that Generator crashed and can't start until i uninstall other 3rd party plugins and reinstall PS. So I went to Extension manager and tried removing but ended up with an "Error code: -451 can't remove extension." Huh? Okay so I went on to do this the manual way following the [URL]...
Great! Now everything s clean. I reinstall PS as asked. and Duh! Nothing changed! The extensions are still there. So I tried uninstalling again, using the adobe cleaner tool and ten reinstall. Same thing - it's still there but the generator won't work.
Ok now I'm starting to get desperate. First I uninstall EVERYTHING adobe (even flash player), use the cleaning tool and then search the harddrive for anything having to do with adobe - all adobe folders, including temp folders, all registry accounts and remved them. Then I removed all things having to do with the extensions, searched the entire hd and if found any instance i removed it.
So I redownloaded Adobe Cloud, started a new account (for safety) and started to reinstall...After launching PS I see that the generator "reflow" option is back again, great! But, what the duck?! The extensions are still there!!
So I launch Extension manager, and it's empty completely empty. How am I now supposed to update the extensions? And how do I remove them
I need to rename tens of thousands of photos and while I have the batch rename tool working just fine.I'm using custom text and sequential numbering. However, I need a blank space between these two fields. I'm using X4 on Windows 7.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhat apart from PSB's ability to handle very large files, are the advantages of one over the other? Reason I ask is the PS Autorecover file has a PSB extension, which I guess enables the feature to handle any file size. So if it is used to recover your work, why do we need to continue to have two formats. Why not just one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just made a whole website design in 3 psd documents, and I went to save as on each of them, and had .psd selected. It saved, and I thought it was ok. But then I went to open it again and it had a smaller file size than I expected...and I realized it was a jpg disguised as a psd, which also when opened gave me the classic 'Cannot open..not a valid photoshop document'...but of course even the jpgs are useless to me as I had various pages on different layers, made invisible. Under normal circumstances I would accept it and start again, however I have not since closed photoshop since I began tweaking them, and thus wondered if it might at all be possible to reload the documents as they once were (they were all real .psd documents before I opened them today).

i started getting this message when I try to open .psd, .ai and numerous other files. I have checked my import-export options and file formats in my plug ins folder but nothing seems to be missing. I can't figure out why this is happening. What i am having to do lately, is open them in image ready, then jump to ps. I know I end up being able to access these files -
View 9 Replies View RelatedI work in publishing and convert hundreds of jpgs into tifs each month. In CS6 under save-as when I click on format> tif, I loose the end of my file name.
Eg Figure 8.7.jpg goes to Figure 8.tif >loosing the last part of the filename.
When I have a big list of files to run through, I need the saving process to be as quick as possible without having to alter the file name manually. Why this is happening, it was fine on CS3!
For some odd reason, when I choose a different file format in Photoshop CS3, the extension does not change, and I have to manually enter this in. I don't recall having to do this before.
I have a mac as well but it doesnt seem to have this problem.
What are the file extensions supported by PSE9?

It seems to be working fine on my computer apart from a bug maybe with adding colours to the gradient map. but thats not why im posting.
If a pupil logs on and opens a new file does some work and then tries to save in a photoshop file format this will work the first time but on a second attempt if they save as another file with a new file name it will say there is a copy of that file when clearly ther isnt. If they say that they want to copy over the file it will save the file but photoshop will not open that file again unable to open wrong file format.
anybody have any idea why photoshop may be acting like this it seems to be a file format issue..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have X5 and win 7 64bit. When I open the import window the only file extensions I can select are pdf and the alphebet after. I do not show cdr or any extensions from a to p or show all files. If I look in windows explorer everything is ther and I can drag a file to the draw page. I tried repair and then reinstalling x5, still no show. I show the files being associated with the program.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know what the difference between .JPEG and .JPG were. I found this link:
[URL].......
Basically they are the same extension and on older computers they could not hold more than a 3 character abbreviated file extension.
But, I want know, what other extensions are relative to Gimp, or what and why is .xcf, .png, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, the extensions always used? Are there others? What is the relevance to .xcf, and the plug ins are all saved as .scm, .gbr, etc. That part makes sense, but I have a plug in for G'MIC with a strange extension (.par2) and I cannot install it.
Suddenly when I do a File>Export and try changing the "save as" type to PDF, it's missing from the list of file extensions. I recall having this option earlier this year and have exported hundreds of files to PDF. Now it's gone. Same installation of Xara. See the attached screenshot for proof!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using OS/X 10.8.5 I can see under the Catalog there is a folder for Lightroom Settings, and the Filename Templates folder exists.
I also tried clicking on the various template names, which gave me the option to install them. They then disappeared from the folder. But were not available.
I had previously also tried Resetting Filename Template under Catalog Preferences.
I really need this module to work.
I don´t have templates in the file rename area in lightroom 5
View 1 Replies View RelatedI notice that when I use Lightroom 5 to rename the pictures contained in a folder, the folder size is reduced afterward. For example, a folder containing 349 jpg files was 1.52 GB but after renaming them, the folder size was redusce to 1.30 GB.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn LR 2.6, when I imported my images (RAW) I would import keeping the original file number, then I would batch rename and convert to dng after they were already in my catalogue. Since I shoot stock, I keep a meticulous record of what I shoot for metadata and keywording purposes. I notice that when I upgraded to LR 3, my in my existing catalogues/folders the original file names are gone, and just the new custom name & sequencing show up.
Unfortunately, I still have to keyword & metadata tag a lot of images, but now the original in-camera numbering is gone. With my new imports what I did to preserve the original numbering, is to import, do my keywording/metadata, then a batch rename. How to keep both. It is just easier to refer to my notes when I have the original number of the image.
I've created a number of presets for renaming files when importing into Lightroom 4.4. How do I get rid of presets that I no longer want?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
