Photoshop Elements :: Moving Catalogue And Files From Vista System?
Jan 10, 2013
What is the best procedure for moving catalog and files from a Vista system with PSE9 to a windows 8 system running PSE 11? Will copy and restore be less problematic than Easy transfer?
Some of my thumbnails/files are missing from my catalog but it won't let me import them because it says they are there. They are not hidden and the links aren't broken. They don't show up at all in any view. The jpg files are still in the folder on my desktop just not in the catalog. When this happened before, I just deleted that catalog and started fresh but now I have too much work in this one to just delete it.
I have just had a new 1TB internal hard drive installed in my PC and then the original smaller internal 500GB hard drive cloned onto it. The new 1TB is now Local Dick C and the smaller 500GB has been changed from C and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 is running from the new C and all my pictures are on both C and F but the catalogue is pointing to F. I want to delete all of the old files on F to free up space since they are all cloned to the new 1TB C, so I want the PSE11 catalogue to point only to the pictures on C. I have tried creating a new Catalogue and importing my pictures from C. The images come in and look connected to C but, when I close PSE11 and then reopen that new catalogue, the image path reads F, as does the original catalogue. So, now I have two catalogues apparently point to F but I want to: 1) have only one catalogue pointing to C; 2) the delete catalogues pointing to F; 3) then reformat F: so I have a clean 500GB old hard drive for future expansion.
I have two very large LR4 catalogues. I would like to copy about a dozen photos (each with extensive adjustments) from one catalogue to another. Is there a way to do that without having to export/import the entire catalogue?
When importing pictures from the hard drive to Elements 11, how can you keep the file structure intact? Specifically, if the original file has both pictures and sub folders, how can you import the original file exactly as it exists on the hard drive. So far I can move the pictures just fine, but I lose the file / sub file identity.Â
I think this should be straightforward but want to make sure. I use Windows 7 on a Dell Desktop with a 1.5 TB HD. It's 30 Gigs from full which is one more shoot. I have backups on external drives but would like to have all my photos both internal and external for safety sake. I'm currently using lightroom 4.4.
When I install my second 2 TB HD I think all I would have to do is move My Pictures folder (with the lightroom catalog) to the new drive. What will I have to do within the software to let the Program know where it is?
Currently all my photos are stored and developed in my laptop, however it is getting too much for its hard drive. I am thinkinng of moving the entire LR catalog to an external harddrive. How to do this safely and also how to point the LR to its new location when I open it from the icon.
I am using Google Drive to store my photos so they are automatically backed up and sync'd across multiple computers, as well as my phone.  I am buying a new primary computer and will need to transfer the catalog to the new computer. However, as I will be installing Google Drive on that computer as well, the photos will all sync down automatically. There is no need to have PE10 copy my flies from the old computer as part of the transfer process, as described here: [URL] ....  The way I see it, there are two scenarios:  I HAVE to use PE10 to make a back up of all the files in the catalog onto an external drive. I import the library on the new computer and either A) Google Drive recognizes that the files are all the same and doesn't waste time syncing the files or B) Google Drive replaces the 110 GB of files currently on the servers with the same files, then pushes those files down to all the devices that are synced.  or...  I can use Google Drive to push the photos onto my new computer, then the paths, tags, albums and other catalog information can be imported without PE10 worrying about the photo files themselves.
After my internal HDD became full with over 30,000 DNGs, I moved all my photos along with the catalogue to my external drive. Now when I open LR, not only do I have to reimport the catalogue every time, but all my develop settings are gone! Hundreds of hours down the drain. Why has this happened, and is there any way I can retrieve them? I'm using v3.4.
I work with photos that I put on desktop. I open them with preview, make a copy, and paste them into other software. When I am through with them and don't want to use them again, I usually move them from the desktop to the trash....that's when I get the (?)(missing file) notation on my photo in organizer. Is there a way to remove them from the desktop without moving them to the trash. Using macbookpro os x 10.6.8
my entire system locks up.It seems to work fine at the start, but it will lock up on me on random. I tried finding out what the exact problem was, and it seems that moving about the canvas in any way always seems to be the cause. I also often get this while I try to save, in the saving process I would move my canvas around, and it would lock up on me. Thus making my .psd-file corrupt/unreadable.
I tried different methods to approach this, but no luck. One is installing the latest video driver, but it already seemed to be up-to-date. Second would be disabling certain plugins in Photoshop, like the FastCore and the MMXCore ones.
Basic system specs:
VGA: GeForce GTX 580 CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 DELUXE RAM memory: 8GB Â Operation system: Windows 7 ultimate. Photoshop CS5
I don't seem to be pluggin in the correct set of keywrds to bring it up in the search if it has. Here's my dilemma. I just bought a new computer which came preloaded with Vista, and uploaded my old copy of CS3 onto it. The program seems to be working fine, except that when I open a file in Photoshop and edit it, then save it in a new file (as I do for most of my photoshoots, etc), or even when I save it in the orignial folder, the new "saved" file will not show up in the Vista folder. If I go back to Photoshop and open the folder via File>Open, I can access all of my pictures, but to I cannot access them to upload to the internet, email, use in other programs, etc. If I go into "Recently Changed Documents" I can find them, but they seem to be in a temp folder in the Adobe folders. But again, if I go back to Adobe, it says they are in the folder I put them in.
I have a new laptop using Vista. It has twice the memory and speed of my last laptop. It takes much longer to open a file in CS3 compared to my other laptop, however once a file is open it runs faster. Is there a setting that I'm missing or is it a Vista thing.
I have got elements 8.I have a string of pictures all marked with a question mark. I am unable to put any more pictures in, as it keeps coming up with "corrupt catalogue". I have tried "repair", but with no success. I have uninstalled & reinsallled the program, but the pictures are still there!!I can't find where the pictures are saved on my computer....
What is the default catalog location for photoshop Elements 9 and what is the filename? I have a Mac. I have searched my hard disc for filenames similar to the catalog names and could not find any.
I am trying to set up new folders in Elements 11. The appear in my pictures but will not show up in the catalog. I cannot find a place to set it up in the organizer. It will let me rename a folder and then add photos but I cannot set up a new folder
I am installing LR4. I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. When I click on the See Adobe Technote button, I received the message that that file is unavailable from the Adobe Website. I don't want to loose all my catalog information from my previous instralling of LR2.7.Â
I have removed photos from my harddrive, but Elements wont let me remove the file from there. What do I do? Â Oh, I worked it out...I have to remove all the little thumbs inside the catalogue, then it disappeared by itself!
I thought I was copying a picture from my Elements 10 catalogue into a slideshow I was creating under "My Pictures". I now want to add text to it. I opened organizer, found the photo, opened full photo edit and got the message that the file was missing. I browsed for it, found it quickly in the my pictures slideshow file, clickec and got a message asking if I wanted to reconnect it. I clicked yes and got the message that it was in the catalogue. Even more disturbing, I got a message that all files were disconnected. Neither the Missing Manual nor Kelby even have the words reconnect or disconnect in the index.
