I have removed photos from my harddrive, but Elements wont let me remove the file from there. What do I do?
Oh, I worked it out...I have to remove all the little thumbs inside the catalogue, then it disappeared by itself!

View 2 Replies View RelatedSome of my thumbnails/files are missing from my catalog but it won't let me import them because it says they are there. They are not hidden and the links aren't broken. They don't show up at all in any view. The jpg files are still in the folder on my desktop just not in the catalog. When this happened before, I just deleted that catalog and started fresh but now I have too much work in this one to just delete it.

I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. I opened organizer, found the photo, opened full photo edit and got the message that the file was missing. I browsed for it, found it quickly in the my pictures slideshow file, clickec and got a message asking if I wanted to reconnect it. I clicked yes and got the message that it was in the catalogue. Even more disturbing, I got a message that all files were disconnected. Neither the Missing Manual nor Kelby even have the words reconnect or disconnect in the index.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PSE 11 on Windows to perform a full catalog backup to extenal HDD. The backup complete successfully. I then move teh external HDD and Restore the catalog using PSE 11 on Max OS X (Maverick). After selecting the source and desination for the restore, I get an error message that the selected HDD does not contain a valid backup. I have twice backed up the catalog. The folders on the HDD contqain more than 300GB of data from teh backup. I get no error during the backup process.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find out if there are limitations in PSE's Organizer that make it pointless for people with large numbers of photos to bother buying PSE 12.
I imported 1050 JPEGs into My Catalog without problem using PSE 8 but all subsequent imported JPEGs show up as Thumbnails that are Opague with an Hourglass design on them. This makes organizing these images impossibly slow. When I created a new catalog, imported thumbnails were visible again.
But what to do about the 1050 images in the original catalog? I've got two thick "how-to" books and they say nothing about copying images from one catalog to another.
More important, to have confidence to buy PSE 12, I need to know what caused the 'invisible' thumbnails in the original catalog and is it something that could happen again after another two years of scanning, importing and trying to organize?
Twice I have attempted to create a catalogue for use and both times I have ended up with a folder list of folders I have never seen before although they do contain pictures if I open them but I don't recognise these folder names.
I am using a iMac with Lion 10.8.2 and all my pictures are in a folder called pictures with sub folders underneath.
I'm using Photoshop CS6 tonight and I'm getting some weird behavior. The thumbs for Shape Layers in the Layers panel sometimes look right, other times they collapse into a tiny square.
if something is wrong. In the photo above, the "HERO" layer is how I expect a Shape Layer to appear. However, the "TOP BANNER" layer is the SAME THING. But for some reason the thumb has become tiny. I'm scratching my head trying to figure out if this is normal for some reason or what
I'm trying to simplify the creation of several preview thumbs from one image.
For example, my base image is a 400x600px image, and from this image I need to create the following thumbs:
1: 150x100px
2: 100x150px
3: 69x42px
4: ...
I would like an Action that would Crop the base image and save a copy of each of these thumbs. I can't fugure out how to do this since I need to adjust the Marquee selection for each thumb to Crop the part of the base image I want.
So can this be done? So the action is started and it pauses for each Marquee selection (the aspect ratio for the selection should not be entered each time, I need that info hardcoded in the Action) and then I can continue the Action and then adjust the Marquee for thumb #2.. and so on..
I have been using Photoshop elements for many many years and am now looking to use Lightroom as an Interface.
At the moment, I have a Folder structure on my computer. At the Top I have Photos. Under Photos I have 43 additional Folders such as ( Cindi/Ivan Pictures, Cory & Jess Pictures, Barry & Janie Pictures, etc..) Now for each of these folders, such as Cory & Jess Pictures, I have a set of folders basically broken down by month/year. Now in a Given Month/Year Folder, I have a set of folders with each one containing the pictures of a given event that occurred ( birthday, trip, etc…). Guess my initial question is how do I get these pictures into a Lightroom Catalog and do I continue to use the same Structure.
Another example - Under the Barry/Janie Pictures Folder, one of the many Folders in this Folder is called Trips. Inside the Trips folder, I have folders for every major trip that Janie & I have taken since 2004 (21 different folders) (For example there is an Isreal Folder). The Israel Folder is made up of a set of folders, for each individual event or place that we visited during our Trip - i.e. 59 different folders. How would this Trips Folder be brought into Lightroom?
Got the <Unexpected error opening catalogue> dialog when starting Lightroom 5.2. Will not allow me to save a new catalogue. Deleted old catalogue thinking that might prompt Lightroom to create a new catalogue or allow me to create and save a new one.Create Folder with New Catalogue allows me to enter a new catalogue name but then Select Catalogue dialog box is empty. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd like to move my existing LR catalog and keywords from 2.7 to my LR 5 catalog. I am using a windows PC, my mac stopped working last month.
What I want is to end up with 1 catalog with all my photos in LR 5 with all my previous edits from LR 2.7 and the keywords as well. By the way, my LR 5 has photos in it as well.
I have just had a new 1TB internal hard drive installed in my PC and then the original smaller internal 500GB hard drive cloned onto it. The new 1TB is now Local Dick C and the smaller 500GB has been changed from C and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 is running from the new C and all my pictures are on both C and F but the catalogue is pointing to F. I want to delete all of the old files on F to free up space since they are all cloned to the new 1TB C, so I want the PSE11 catalogue to point only to the pictures on C. I have tried creating a new Catalogue and importing my pictures from C. The images come in and look connected to C but, when I close PSE11 and then reopen that new catalogue, the image path reads F, as does the original catalogue. So, now I have two catalogues apparently point to F but I want to: 1) have only one catalogue pointing to C; 2) the delete catalogues pointing to F; 3) then reformat F: so I have a clean 500GB old hard drive for future expansion.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed elements 12 and the install went well, except for all my lightroom images.After installing elements 12 I went to look at my lightroom catalog onlt to find it was no longer there. There was an option to upgrade my elements catalog to lightroom, that seemed to make sense so I did that next.at this point my lightroom (3) catalog is there but there are NO images only blank squares.
At this point I am deeply regretful that I ever upgraded elements 10 to 12, everthing was working just fine till i installed elements 12.
