I am trying to set up new folders in Elements 11. The appear in my pictures but will not show up in the catalog. I cannot find a place to set it up in the organizer. It will let me rename a folder and then add photos but I cannot set up a new folder

I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. When I click on the See Adobe Technote button, I received the message that that file is unavailable from the Adobe Website. I don't want to loose all my catalog information from my previous instralling of LR2.7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed elements 12 and the install went well, except for all my lightroom images.After installing elements 12 I went to look at my lightroom catalog onlt to find it was no longer there. There was an option to upgrade my elements catalog to lightroom, that seemed to make sense so I did that next.at this point my lightroom (3) catalog is there but there are NO images only blank squares.
At this point I am deeply regretful that I ever upgraded elements 10 to 12, everthing was working just fine till i installed elements 12.
I currently have two external hard drives where I have all my bird photos classified into folders by the name of the bird. There are more or less a hundred. I have one external hard drive where I import all the photos to and the other external where I backup the first external hard drive every night. They are getting full and I will soon have to purchase two more, but I was wondering how I could export all the folder hierarchy into the new external hard drive. It surely will be a chore to have to create each one again.
View 12 Replies View Relatedonly have 200 photos in V4. I made the mistake of moving and deleting folders on my hard drive and not in LR, now my folder organization is a mess and doesn't match. Can I delete the catalogue and reorganize my hard drive the way I want it then re - import it all to LR? If so how do I do this. Does this remove the folder organization in LR, as it is not correct either. My catalogue has not been backed up yet. I have HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and Win 7.?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAdmittedly, I am fairly new with Lightroom but I am totally at a loss to explain what has happened. I wanted to create a new catalog to move some files into. I went File>New Catalog and then in the "Create folder with new catalog" dialogue box, I typed in my new name and hit "save". Boom. Lightroom closed right down. When I opened it back up, all of my folders and catologs were gone. Nothing appears in the navigation section on the left side other than the headings, "Catalogs", "Folders", "Collections", etc and they are empty. In "My Computer" all of the folders are still there with the DNG files in place, but LR will not show them to me. why I can no longer access my catalogs?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have been forced to check under the hood in LR due to the fact that I have lost a big chuck of my keywords, and I'm contemplanting if its worth importing a copy of my backup copy. I am debating if I should just go back and re-enter all the missing keywords, or retrieving a backup copy. However, I read somewhere that its wise to change the name of the master catalog before retrieving a backup copy.
However, I found multiple folders of my catalog in my master folder. I'd like to know which one should I delete without causing any major collateral damage.

Is there a way to have the organizer folders set up the same was as Windows Explorer? I have a main folder called Family with sub folders for all the years and in each of the subfolders there could be other subfolders. It wouldn't allow me to click on main folder and get all sub folders. I had to open main folder and then it shows all folders and sub folders separately. They are no longer nested.
Along the same lines, I wanted to create an album of Family with all subfolders, but that doesn't work.that is definitely a short coming which is why I never have used the organizer program, but just PSE for editing.
I made a mistake and attempted to install LRcc on mac os 10.6.8. I now understand that this in not supported. Now, when I go back to LR 4, it will open some catalogues, but not the one with the most work in it. Naturally, I have done quite a bit of work since my most recent backup.

Lightroom cannot create a catalog named “pics-5” on volume “/Volumes/Lightroom/pics-5” because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location. Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes.
The drive is not a network volume, removable storage (it's a SATA drive on a Mac Pro), or read-only.
Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom work?

They don't show up at all in any view. The jpg files are still in the folder on my desktop just not in the catalog. When this happened before, I just deleted that catalog and started fresh but now I have too much work in this one to just delete it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI thought I was copying a picture from my Elements 10 catalogue into a slideshow I was creating under "My Pictures". I now want to add text to it. I opened organizer, found the photo, opened full photo edit and got the message that the file was missing. I browsed for it, found it quickly in the my pictures slideshow file, clickec and got a message asking if I wanted to reconnect it. I clicked yes and got the message that it was in the catalogue. Even more disturbing, I got a message that all files were disconnected. Neither the Missing Manual nor Kelby even have the words reconnect or disconnect in the index.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using PSE 11 on Windows to perform a full catalog backup to extenal HDD. The backup complete successfully. I then move teh external HDD and Restore the catalog using PSE 11 on Max OS X (Maverick). After selecting the source and desination for the restore, I get an error message that the selected HDD does not contain a valid backup. I have twice backed up the catalog. The folders on the HDD contqain more than 300GB of data from teh backup. I get no error during the backup process.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I'm unable to move photos or folders from within lightroom 4. The drag and drop system from the library module does nothing for me. I'm pretty sure I just watched an AdobeTV demonstration where the presenter had no problem moving files inside the "Folders" panel in the Library. I've even tried highlighting the photos I want to move from the grid view, control+clicking on the folder where I want them to go, selecting "Move Selected Photos to this Folder" from the flyout, and nothing happens.
My cursor shows a green plus(+) icon when I mouse over the destination folder when dragging the photos, as if LR were going to add the files to the folder.... but then nothing happens.
Am I losing it, shouldn't this be a completely intuiative process? Is it possible I've locked my files/photos?
I bought a ReadyNAS and a few harddrives to go with it, and decided to move all my 35594 pictures to it.As Lightroom has some silly features like not being able to move multiple folders unless they have a root folder, I moved most of these files via Explorer and then had to sync them one by one for hand (which is annoying, as there's one folder for every day – however, that's another question). For the rest of the 20 000 photos, I decided to move them with Lightroom.
Results:
0 missing files from the files I moved with Explorer and resynced.
3049 missing files from the files I moved with Lightroom.
The files simply don't exist anymore, on neither of the disks. I've searched every single drive for them completely by file name, date, everything. They're gone.This has nothing to do with disk failure, or user error. Only the files I moved with Lightroom are affected.
Considering there's both client work and personal pictures among these, it's crucial that I get them back.
There's another thread about this problem here, except that I didn't have the luck of just 80 files.
I am running lightroom 4 under mac OS X 10.8. I recently moved my pictures to a new xternal drive. I was able to "find" the first couple of folders but now when I select the question mark with control click by the time i slde the mouse over to the window that opens it closes again. I have tried decreasing the mouse sensitivity no joy. I have tried other vermin and same situation.
