How do I add .DNG files to an existing catalog? When I try to do so, they appear unable to highlight and import. Only JPEGs and similar file types are able to be highlighted and imported.

I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. When I click on the See Adobe Technote button, I received the message that that file is unavailable from the Adobe Website. I don't want to loose all my catalog information from my previous instralling of LR2.7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed elements 12 and the install went well, except for all my lightroom images.After installing elements 12 I went to look at my lightroom catalog onlt to find it was no longer there. There was an option to upgrade my elements catalog to lightroom, that seemed to make sense so I did that next.at this point my lightroom (3) catalog is there but there are NO images only blank squares.
At this point I am deeply regretful that I ever upgraded elements 10 to 12, everthing was working just fine till i installed elements 12.
I made a mistake and attempted to install LRcc on mac os 10.6.8. I now understand that this in not supported. Now, when I go back to LR 4, it will open some catalogues, but not the one with the most work in it. Naturally, I have done quite a bit of work since my most recent backup.

Lightroom cannot create a catalog named “pics-5” on volume “/Volumes/Lightroom/pics-5” because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location. Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes.
The drive is not a network volume, removable storage (it's a SATA drive on a Mac Pro), or read-only.
Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom work?

So I end up dragging everything to a new page. That works fine but it's a pain ending up with multiples of everything.
Admittedly, I am fairly new with Lightroom but I am totally at a loss to explain what has happened. I wanted to create a new catalog to move some files into. I went File>New Catalog and then in the "Create folder with new catalog" dialogue box, I typed in my new name and hit "save". Boom. Lightroom closed right down. When I opened it back up, all of my folders and catologs were gone. Nothing appears in the navigation section on the left side other than the headings, "Catalogs", "Folders", "Collections", etc and they are empty. In "My Computer" all of the folders are still there with the DNG files in place, but LR will not show them to me. why I can no longer access my catalogs?

I thought it would be a matter of pointing the old catalogue to the new hard drive, but that does not appear to be the case. Do I need to start from scratch and build a brand new catalogue?

Basically I will edit an entire wedding and then I go back and pick out favorites for my bride and like to add the same artistic edit over them. Since they are already all edited to my clean beautiful photo, (color balance, exsposure, editing for maybe none ideal lighting during ceremony) I would think there would be an easy way to add a preset without having it change all my adjustments I made so to speed up my process. At the moment, I have a Folder structure on my computer. At the Top I have Photos. Under Photos I have 43 additional Folders such as ( Cindi/Ivan Pictures, Cory & Jess Pictures, Barry & Janie Pictures, etc..) Now for each of these folders, such as Cory & Jess Pictures, I have a set of folders basically broken down by month/year. Now in a Given Month/Year Folder, I have a set of folders with each one containing the pictures of a given event that occurred ( birthday, trip, etc…). Guess my initial question is how do I get these pictures into a Lightroom Catalog and do I continue to use the same Structure.
Another example - Under the Barry/Janie Pictures Folder, one of the many Folders in this Folder is called Trips. Inside the Trips folder, I have folders for every major trip that Janie & I have taken since 2004 (21 different folders) (For example there is an Isreal Folder). The Israel Folder is made up of a set of folders, for each individual event or place that we visited during our Trip - i.e. 59 different folders. How would this Trips Folder be brought into Lightroom?
Got the <Unexpected error opening catalogue> dialog when starting Lightroom 5.2. Will not allow me to save a new catalogue. Deleted old catalogue thinking that might prompt Lightroom to create a new catalogue or allow me to create and save a new one.Create Folder with New Catalogue allows me to enter a new catalogue name but then Select Catalogue dialog box is empty. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd like to move my existing LR catalog and keywords from 2.7 to my LR 5 catalog. I am using a windows PC, my mac stopped working last month.
What I want is to end up with 1 catalog with all my photos in LR 5 with all my previous edits from LR 2.7 and the keywords as well. By the way, my LR 5 has photos in it as well.
I have several hundred videos I have taken, either with a Canon SD800, Canon S95, Canon T2i or a GoPro.
New videos I take on this equipment works just fine when adding to Lightroom. But when I try to import older files, I get error: video file not imported with the quantity in parenthesis.
I have tried purging the video cache, I have tried task manager - disabling dynamiclinkmanager and dynamiclinkmediaserver. Occasionally I will be able to import one or two videos after doing this but then it hangs up again.
Running Win7, LR4.1.
I don't have anything else up and running when I do this.
I want to make smart previews for all of my existing files and move the originals to an external drive. It goes without saying that I want the catalogs intact. I tried to do it but was unsucessful.

View 12 Replies View RelatedLightroom v5.3: I'm a long time DNG file user for Pentax and Nikon cameras. I recently discovered that about 300 of my RAW Nikon files already imported into the Library are NEF files instead of DNG files as my other 5700 files are.
I know that I made an error somewhere along the way, but- Is there an easy solution to converting those existing NEF files to the DNG format?
I am trying to set up new folders in Elements 11. The appear in my pictures but will not show up in the catalog. I cannot find a place to set it up in the organizer. It will let me rename a folder and then add photos but I cannot set up a new folder

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lightroom 4.3 to add a copyright watermarking image (png) to existing tiff files for website use. I have several different png files made using Photoshop Elements, with the copyright text set at different transparencies, eg 20/30/40 percent opacity, so that whichever one I use in Lightroom I can always leave the opacity setting in the watermarking dialog at 100% and the images are scaled proportionally to 35%.
The problem is that every time I export the files after setting the watermark position etc, I notice that there is a noticeable loss of both contrast and colour in the newly made tiff files.
Lightroom 4.3, Windows 7, 64-bit.
I recently upgraded from a mac mini to a macbook pro retina using migration assistant and time machine backup. All went well, and since all my photos were on an external drive, no problems there. However, when I try to import new photos, I see the images, but then get a list of the .CR2 files and an error message of "unable to read files." This is a Sandisk Extreme 16 GB SD card, and it still successfully works on the old mac. Following a similar issue in the forum, I checked permissions, and those appear to all be correct. I'm running LR 4.4.

There are no tell tail ? marks against these files and all catalogues appear to OK.

Since updating to LR 4.4, I have been unable to download RAW file formats. In addition, normal .jpg files stopped working today! I can successfully still download into LR 3.6 which I kept on my system. I'm shooting with a Canon 1D Mark X and using LR on an iMac.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to import NEF files into the new Lightroom 5.3, I recieve the following error message: "The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (251)" and then each .NEF file is listed separately. I am using the latest and most updated Lightroom software and a Nikon 3300. I get this message if I try to import directly from the SD card or if I try to import from the desktop (after copying the SD card contents onto my desktop). I also am unable to import directly from the camera. I'm using a promaster performance 32GG SD card that I formated in the Nikon 3300 before I started shooting. I took three pictures that were just JPGs on the card and these improt okay using any mechanism. All the other photos were taking RAW+JPG.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a MacBook Pro and Lightroom 4.4.
When importing I use the "Copy as DNG" feature and that works just fine for the RAW impages.
I then switch to the "Copy" feature to copy some JPG imsages taken with another camera and they are not copied. The information in the window is "Cound not copy a file to the requested location" and lists all files I tried to import. If I copy the files manually into the folders/locations that Lightroom should have done, the "Add" fearire works just fine.
I am just puzzled as to why Lightroom cannot copy the files to the folders that are there and add the image to the catalog on its own. Converting RAW to DNG works fine so what needs to be done to allow Copy to do the same thing.
I am unable to export any files from LR5. This just barely started happening. I have not had this issue, and I have been using LR5 for a few weeks on two different computers with no problems. I have checked all my settings several times, and tried restarting the program. It still won't export! It goes through all the files, and then a little pop-up window comes up saying it could not export the files.
