After my internal HDD became full with over 30,000 DNGs, I moved all my photos along with the catalogue to my external drive. Now when I open LR, not only do I have to reimport the catalogue every time, but all my develop settings are gone! Hundreds of hours down the drain. Why has this happened, and is there any way I can retrieve them? I'm using v3.4.

How do I import tags from another catalogue but not the develop settings of each image?
Here's whats going on:
I started with 5000 images on a hard drive. I gave a copy to someone else working on the project.
I physically moved images into real folders and edited all the shots.
She left all the images where they originally were and tagged each image.
I want to combine her tags with the edits that I've done, with the images in their new locations I've made.
I have a copy of her catalogue file.
I tried importing her catalogue into mine- which will pull her metadata tags, but only also with pulling her develop settings which resets all my work.
How can I import ONLY her metadata tags?
I can't open her catalogue and write the tags into XML sidecars because I've moved the images from where her catalogue says they are.
I realize we should have done this differently from the beginning, but with that being said- if I could import only her metadata tags then that should work. But Lightroom 4 only gives the options of importing BOTH metadata and develop settings.
Currently all my photos are stored and developed in my laptop, however it is getting too much for its hard drive. I am thinkinng of moving the entire LR catalog to an external harddrive. How to do this safely and also how to point the LR to its new location when I open it from the icon.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have opened LR5 and found ALL the pictures have lost development settings that cost me hours of work.when I open a folder in the Catalog the pictures are first shown for a couple of seconds with the edits (for example BW) than as originally imported. All the development settings are gone and can't be found anymore. The history is empty.The last thing I did when I last used LR was a backup.I opened the backup Catalog, but also this one doesn't show any edit.Is there any way to recover.
I am honestly tempted by throw this software to the waste bin.
I transferred my LR4 catalogue from my Mac hard drive to an external drive. Then, I transferred my original photo files (2012, 2011 etc, with subfolders by date) to the external drive as well. Then I clicked "update folder location" on each main folder. In the catalogue under "All Photographs," most of my photos are offline and when I click "find missing photos" they're still offline. When I click the ? on an individual photo, LR can't find it. But when I find its folder on my own, LR won't allow me to select it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used a trial version of Lightroom 4 and imported about 300 photos from my internal imac hard drive to tinker with during the trial. So when I first set LR up, the catalog was connected to my internal hard drive, via the Pictures folder. Then when the trial ended, I bought the software and installed it but in the meantime had transferred all my photo libraryfrom my computer internal hard drive to an external hard drive. Now that I have the LR 4 software and am no longer using the trial, I'm ready to import all my photos to Light room. My question is how to I change my LR catalog (which currently contains the 300 photos I imported during the trial period) to link to my big photo library which is now on my external hard drive, instead of linking to my computer's internal hard drive

My catalogue is located in my f drive in a second internal drive on my desktop computer. Where is the best location for my catalogue backup? I figured i would backup the catalogue to this f drive,and also to my new 1tb external drive. I will do this also for my images only on both drives. also how would i set up my external editing info. the custom templates. Can this info be set up later on. Is there a good link as to what this setting is and how to set it up.? also on metadata presets what categories are mandatory to fill out. I am an amateur photographer and do not publish any photos so i do not need a copyright. So I figured i would just fill out the creator section only.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI think this should be straightforward but want to make sure. I use Windows 7 on a Dell Desktop with a 1.5 TB HD. It's 30 Gigs from full which is one more shoot. I have backups on external drives but would like to have all my photos both internal and external for safety sake. I'm currently using lightroom 4.4.
When I install my second 2 TB HD I think all I would have to do is move My Pictures folder (with the lightroom catalog) to the new drive. What will I have to do within the software to let the Program know where it is?
I tranferred my catalogue from macbook air to Imac. The info which showed on the laptop did not appear in gridview in library on my desktop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost all changes that I made in the develop module. Most of these photos where stacked with the raw copy on top of the jpeg. Then I had picked the ones I liked and make changes to them in the develop module. Then I and changed them to DNG. This was over two weeks ago and I think I was trying to put them in to a collection. Now all I see is the originals as they appeared on the day they where imported.

I can see all the thumbnails and keywords etc in library but when I try to move a picture into develop (or external editor) I get the message "The folder could not be found". The My pictures files on the left hand side are present but not in bold white. How to connect to these later files.

There are any thing i can do to recover de adjustments?
I have no Develop settings. So why are pictures not showing a 0 on exposure, contracts, whites blacks etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast weekend, I formatted my PC HD and installed Windows 7 64 bit (previously installed was Vista). A human error was - perhaps - making sure that my backup of AppData was successful. However, my picture folder was on an EHD, and I suppose I would be saved anyway. I ran the import function from my EHD to LR3 (latest version), and everything went just find, except that my keywords were missing. Strange thing though, is that my lists of keywords and keyword suggestions were complete, but not connected to the photos (except for 1!!)So my question is, is there something I have missed (apart from my AppData folder) that could be fixed, or will I have to start re-tagging (keywording that is, metadata like dates etc. were imported as well)?

Cleaning up my photo directory, i started consolidating and moving folders around in my HDD. However in doing so, I also accidently removed one of the 'catalog folder' in my Lightroom (so the original photos are still there in the physical folder, but i can't see it anymore in Lightroom). Now if I try to import the folder back into Lightroom, all my developed settings are lost (i.e. everything reverts back to the original settings).
I tried using the Find Missing Photos function and the Sychronize Folder function, both does not work with my problem. Unfortunately, my catalog backup is also a week old, so that wouldn't have my recently developed settings?
Any way to retrieve the removed catalog folder with all the previously developed settings?
I subcontract a lot of event work. I'm still using an older MBP which is 32bit so I can't upgrade to LR4 yet which requires a 64bit processor.
The studio that contracts me is running LR4 and they don't seem to think that the develop settings I make in LR3.5 are transferring to LR4. Is this possible?
I'm thinking an easy work-around would be to export all the files as DNGs? This would automatically include all changes that I make wouldn't it?
when I upgraded my catalog from Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5, it appears that not all of the my develop settings transfered for all photos. If I am to open the catalog in Lightroom 4, the appear to still exist. How can I see all the settings in Lightroom 5.

These happen to be my 'standard' edit settings - contrast, saturation, sharpening etc. but nothing major. I don't know if it's a bug, or something I've done myself. I can't seem to switch it off, I've tried looking at preferences (normal), the import presets (none), restoring Adobe default settings, resetting all settings and using these as the default. Nothing works.

I have transferred some folders from my internal drive to an external (FW) drive. Whereas most of the transfer worked fine, I had the following problems:
- one folder (at least) completely disappeared from LR. The files were moved to the new HDD (I can see them in Finder), an empty folder remains in LR under the "old" drive and there is nothing in LR at the new position.
- an empty structure remained at the location of the old files
- on some folders, I had the message "could not complete the folder move..." and only part of the pictures (or none at all) were moved.
I have several Lightroom catalogs from over the years, many of the from older versions and many of the catalogs contain develop settings from photos I have on my current catalog.
The thing is I have some picture folders with rates, develop setings and more things from an old catalog that I want to transfer to my new catalog from Lightroom 4.4. I want to transfer just the settings and rates, nothing else, i already have the photos, sometimes with many photos rated and developed.
Is there a way to transfer just the settings and rates of a certain set of photos from one catalog to another one?
My White Balance has managed to find a new scepia setting, and I can't get it back to "As Shot".

Second question. If I also happen to apply a Preset during Import that has some of the same Develops as my Default Settings, like Lens Corrections or Sharpening, what will happen? Will the effects be cumlative/additive/doubled or will LR only apply the effect once?
