Lightroom :: Rename DNG Files Result Is Total Lost Of Develop Adjustments?
Apr 25, 2013
Last day i made a massive rename operation at all my DNG files with Bridge in order to reflect the capture date and hour in the filename. Then when i synchronize the Lightroom catalog all the develop adjustments was whipped-out.
There are any thing i can do to recover de adjustments?
I have recently opened a LR catalog from an external hard drive connected to a new mac pro. All the 'user templates' are there and all the images in each respective collection, although I had to re-connect them as the originals had moved to a new external hard drive but... most (not all), but most of the images I had adjusted in 'Develop' have gone. Most of the images I made a virtual copy of before adjusting have reverted back to the original raw image without the adjustments.
If I have to start all over again from scratch or is there a magic 'LR Develop adjustments' file I haven't transfere to the new laptop and hard drive?
I would like to be able to sort a set of photos by those that have Develop Adjustments and those that do not. For now, I don't want to sort by the type of adjustment.....just whether or not an image has one.
Did I lose my adjustments in Develop when I clicked on Library in Lightroom? I have been working on a group of about 300 photos for the past several days. Today I was in Develop and went to Library to get a couple of new photos. When I got back to Develop all my adjustments were gone. Can I get them back?
I frequently export pictures from LR-5 to Phanfare. Up until today this process has gone smoothly. Now, suddenly, the file sizes are small, but with their develop adjustments applied. I use Chrome on an iMAC. Everything is up-to-date. It would appear that the exporter is dipping into the 1:1 previews. If so, how can it be rerouted to the proper source?
As you can see, I am in a frantic stage. I just finished editing through close to 800 photos of a wedding that I recently shot. After I finished editing them I went to the floder location, in Windows, not Lightroom 3 (huge mistake), and I made a folder inside of that folder called "raw". I selceted all of the photos and then moved them into the that folder. So, the files were in weddings/021812/ and I put them in weddings/021812/raw/ . When I went to Lightroom, of course it said that the files were offline. Instead of finding the missing folder, I clicked "synchronize folder" and pointed towards the "raw" folder. I noticed that the images were importing without their setting and I cancelled the synchronization. I went back to windows and moved all of the photos back to their original folder and now when I try to "update folder location", the photos do not show up in Lightroom.
Is there any way to filter on the "Photo has Develop adjustments" flag? I can't find it, but the filtering capability seems a bit opaque to me so maybe I'm just missing it.
I was about to export some photos and realized that I have lost all the develop adjustments I made over a month ago. If I go back to an ealier catalog file from the beginning of October, I see all the adjustments, but it looks like the photos have moved (I get a blank thumbnail with the question mark). Couple questions:
why the develop adjustments are absent from the photos in all my recent catalogs? I always move my photos in LR.Is there anyway to "export" the develop adjustments from the older catalog and associate them to the correct photos in the newest catalog?
I have recently installed Lightroom 4. In the develop module, any adjustments will not show in the photo on the screen. The photo frequently will not load onto the screen. If I select crop mode, the photo disappears and the screen turns to gray. If I select before/after, the screen turns to gray. I have read the manual multiple times and have watched the video. I do not see any step that I am omitting or doing incorrectly. Should I uninstall & reinstall the program, or what?
setting up presets for making adjustments to more than one image, I keep hearing about doing that by way of the "quick develop" panel, but I don't like that panel... its a bit too basic or something... I don't like making settings where I can't see a bit more about what I'm doing.
Is there a way to create presets when in the Develope mode? I don't see any clues on the the basic panel, but hopefully I'm missing something. Is there not a way to record the settings I've made inside the basic panel into a preset?
I am using Lightroom 4.1 RC2 on a Windows 7 64 bit system with dual monitors. When I am in the develop mode and make edit adjustments on any setting the 2nd monitor does not update. If I move to another image then come back the image is updated but it does not work in real time. I have never had this problem before and it worked fine in Lightroom V4.0
I have opened LR5 and found ALL the pictures have lost development settings that cost me hours of work.when I open a folder in the Catalog the pictures are first shown for a couple of seconds with the edits (for example BW) than as originally imported. All the development settings are gone and can't be found anymore. The history is empty. The last thing I did when I last used LR was a backup.I opened the backup Catalog, but also this one doesn't show any edit.Is there any way to recover.
I am honestly tempted by throw this software to the waste bin.
I have lost all changes that I made in the develop module. Most of these photos where stacked with the raw copy on top of the jpeg. Then I had picked the ones I liked and make changes to them in the develop module. Then I and changed them to DNG. This was over two weeks ago and I think I was trying to put them in to a collection. Now all I see is the originals as they appeared on the day they where imported.
I have just downloaded LR5 & trying out the develop mode. Don't know how it happened but lost the 'basic' menu in develop mode, how can I gewt this back?
Using LR5 on my MacBook Pro I have recently lost the "basic" and "colour" pallets from thr right hand side in the Develop Module. How can I get them back?
LR 5.3, Develop module - I seem to have lost all my options under Camera Calibrate. All I have now is Camera Standard and Matrix, where I used to have a slew of options. I'm still using the same camera and lenses, which are known to Adobe, processing RAW files.
After my internal HDD became full with over 30,000 DNGs, I moved all my photos along with the catalogue to my external drive. Now when I open LR, not only do I have to reimport the catalogue every time, but all my develop settings are gone! Hundreds of hours down the drain. Why has this happened, and is there any way I can retrieve them? I'm using v3.4.
I moved images from my harddrive to an external drive.
I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
I am trying to do a rename of several files at once, but I would like it to use a Custom Name WITHOUT a sequence on the first file. I should be able to select several files and the first file will get the custom name, the second file will get -2, then -3, and so on. If I select 30 files, the first file gets the custom name correctly, then the second file get -31, then -32, and so on. It is counting the number of files I have selected, and then renaming them based on that count!!
The way I have to do it now is to select the first file, do custom name, then select the rest of the files and do sequence.

I am having trouble with RAW files in Lightroom, and also camera RAW.
When I import a RAW file into Lightroom (i have the current version, 3.5) Lightroom adds adjustments to the file, for example in the basic section of the develop module exposure will be set to 0.25, recovery will be at 100, contrast 54 etc...
I have tried shooting on different cameras and I do not have the problem. I have put the same RAW files into another computer with Lightroom and it works fine. Just seems to be a wierd combination of my camera and my computer.
Everything was working fine, and I recently purchased a new camera, and still everything was fine. Then one day it started adding adjustments to the RAW image automatically. And the same when I open a file in camera RAW..
I just renamed all my files using Lightroom (select all; rename files)
Unfortunately, this did not rename the correponding xmp files. Since this is irrevercible, I'm now in a tight spot. I'm stuck this thousands of files with "lost" xmp files
(Also, it is very annoying that the renaming changes the file creation dates! This pretty much destroys my backup routine..)
The issue probably has to do with the differences in settings. I am using the 64 bit version of Windows 7.I imported a group of pictures with the XMP sidecar files generated with Lightroom v3. All the image files, a mixture of Canon Mark 5D II RAW and jpg files from my point & shoot UFO camera, imported without issue picking up all my tagging and GPS settings. When importing you are put into the Library module and from the Library module I could click on any RAW or jpg file, look at the meta data and view full screen.
I then entered the Develop module with a jpg picture selected and none of my settings made it across. The process was set to 2012. I was able to try out the new adjustments and all worked very well.I then selected a RAW file while still in the Develop module and all hell broke loose.
I got a tip window pop up, the film strip went orange, the rest of the app screen then became greyed out and then behind tip pop up a crash window containing this information appeared:
There was no other path but to have the app close after that. Now since Lightroom has left off with the RAW file in the develop module when I restart the app it starts in the develop module with that same RAW image selected and I crash before I can change to a jpg. I am probably going to have to delete and recreated the data file to use the app again
After the all this I went back and checked to see how I had the catalog settings in LR 3 set because there were no sidecar files for the jpg images. I did not have the option to write settings to jpg and tif files but did have write settings to sidecar set. So I have a bit of a mystery why I have no sidecar files for jpg files when I should have based on the way the settings were. This probably explains why I had no issues at all with them in LR 4.
I am going to get LR 4 working again and then import the same batch of pictures without any sidecar files and see if I have any issues. I will report back soon.
I recently had a number of old transparencies scanned at a local service bureau and delivered as jpegs on disc. The images import just fine into Lightroom from the disc, but when I try to rename them, I get a dialogue box telling me I can't rename them "...because they are missing or not writable." Thinking, perhaps, that Lightroom was somehow trying unsuccessfully to rename them on the source disc, I tried downloading them to my computer first, ejecting the disc, then importing them into Lightroom. Same result. What am I doing wrong? How do I rename these images?
I set up a template to rename my files, the template was set up to show the date, a job ident and the city and state where the photo was taken. Everything works except I can not get the job ident to show in the name. I made sure in the metadata that the indent was there in the work flow section. I have gone back redone the template.
Lightroom 4 adjustments arent applied to files.I have done some work and adjustments on Raw files in Lightroom 4 , but when I look at the files in Finder , the changes appear not to have been applied .
If during making adjustments I also edit in Photoshop 5 , then I see that the changes are applied and saved as I wish but I don't always need to make changes in Photoshop , so why do my files appear to be unaltered ?
If I select 5 files to rename it might rename 4 of them but not the 5th. If I try that one file by itself I get an error message saying it cannot do it. If I exit LR completely and try the file in Explorer I sometimes with still get the error message that dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe is using the file.
This is a real pain as I have over 400 video clips to tag and name and I have now spent two days on this issue.
I am using a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit,x laptop with 16 GB RAM.
