Photoshop Elements :: Photos Look Like Film Negatives After Color Correcting
Aug 1, 2013
I tried following Scott Kelby's instructions for color correcting digital images in PSE 10. I was entering the values he gave for the R,G and Blue channels. I got off track and probably missed a step. Anyway, now when I try any of the auto correction features, my images look like film negatives and not like a regular digital image. How can I re-enable the auto correction features (levels, color correction, etc.) ?

I am trying to convert a CMYK logo, which I didn't design, into pantone colors for film output (for negatives to make plates for a printing press), but there are many colors and gradients in the original file. I don't know much about offset printing, as I usually use a digital press, but I need to know how to best preserve the look of the original file. I can break down into 4 colors, but I lose the gradient effect... Is there a way to preserve that effect in a film negative? (I'm working in Illustrator CS6 on Mac OS X 10.6.8)
(The image to the left is the original logo... To the right, is the 2 color (Pantone) separation image, which will work for film output, but looks significantly different than the original. I don't know much about the offset press on which these logos will be printed, but I've been told it's a maximum of 4 colors per printed image. I know the press operator can mix any pantone color, but I think the film can only be separated into a maximum of 4 different colors....

Using an old enlarger I managed to take pictures of old 6x6 cm black and white film negatives. And promised someone to do so with a lot of them (her father's heritage).
I have come up with the following temporary starting points:

how to fix the color on this photo. I have several more like it. They are scanned from photos that were developed from damaged film. On the photos where the entire image is yellowed I have no problem correcting the color, but I'm not quite sure how to make a selection on photos like these and then match the color to the other half..I am using cs5.

In Photoshop 6, I knew how to correct red eyes pretty well. I just use the Circle Marquee tool to select the eyes and I just simply went to the Channels palette, select the Blue channel, CTRL - C to copy it, then went to the Red channel, then pasted it. And my red eyes were removed when I returned to the layers palette after clicking on the RGB channel.
I tried the same method in PS 7 and it doesn't seem to work that way anymore. Can anyone tell me a way to remove red eyes in photos with PS 7?

when I have a picture that just isn't right but I'm not sure exactly what it is I'll run it thru "Variations"...It gives me a quick color tint variation..
making it a little more obvouis which way to go in color correcting it.
Rarely use it for the final color correction but I do use it to see where I should go..

I'm working on a website with an image and film archive. I wanted to have a couple images for the entry pages that give the site a sort of archive-y, slightly cluttered and haphazard feel. I recently got Photoshop CS2 and have some experience using it and previous versions, though I'm not an expert designer by any means. The two things I'd like to do are:
1. Find a plugin/filter/process to make jpg photo images appear to be old photos sitting on the background. I.e. make them a little warped, give a sense of depth & slight shadow, maybe even a slightly tattered edge. Basically to give the viewer an impression of several photographs scattered on top of a surface (in this case, the white background), maybe some tossed partway on top of others.
2. For the film content, I wanted an image of a 16mm film strip with screen captures from the films displayed as if they were each frame. I can do this with an image of flat 16mm movie film with the screen caps sized to fit the frames, but I'd *really* like to make that film sort of wavy and/or looped. Is there a way to warp a flat image like that into something that looks convincingly wavy, as if the film was just taken out of the canister?

Is it possible to just simply work with the highlights in a shot (for example boosting the gain), without having to work with selective, or masks, and without changing the color? Cause there is the 'wheel' for highlights, but as soon, as you turn it in one direction, you start to change the color.

My director friend has seen me color correct images in LR with grace and skill, and wants me to start doing color correction for his films. I have never used Final Cut Pro before, and wondered if the controls in Final Cut were similar to LR, if you could export and import between the two, and generally what the difference was between working with color in each. He has one of the RED cameras, which shoots in RAW, so I assume the different can't be too great.

I'm looking for a way to scan directly into PSE 10 with my negative scanner. Maybe a plug-in? I know it's unlikely that there's something to convert the image to positive etc but I'd rather spend time doing that than use the bundled software with the scanner (SilverFast). However, currently Get From Scanner gives me "Film Scanner" which either previews and scans black negs or doesn't work at all without Silverfast installed. Seems the only way to set it up as a TWAIN scanner (yep, got TWAIN plug-in) is to use a seperate piece of software like silverfast which is then launched to get the scan. Got correct and up-to-date drivers properly installed.

New to PSP and I took some night time photos of a car using long exposure, the pictures are clear and focused but they have that yellow-orange street light tint to them. Is there an easy way in PSP X6 to get rid of that color cast?
I'm shooting in RAW in Large with a Nikon D5100 if that matters for this. I'm not bothered how I output it as up to now I've just experimented on screen. No error codes yet!

I'm capturing television frames using a TV capture card, but the resulting images do not have the correct brightness/contrast and color values.
Instead of manually altering every image using trial and error, I'd like to take a "correct" source frame that I know is correctly balanced (such as a test pattern), and use it to correct my other captured images.
I've tried saving the source frame's levels and curves and then loading them into the captured frames, but this doesn't produce quite the effect I'm looking for.

What is the best way to color correct the very blue photos taken underwater scuba diving? Most pictures were take at about 50-70' depth with an Olympus point and shoot fe-360 with an underwater housing. The camera was set on the underwater scene 2 setting. I just want to get the vibrant colors back that were present in the great corals, sponges and fish in the BVI's.
