Lightroom :: How To Take Pictures Of Old 6x6 Cm Black And White Film Negatives
Nov 3, 2013
Using an old enlarger I managed to take pictures of old 6x6 cm black and white film negatives. And promised someone to do so with a lot of them (her father's heritage).
I have come up with the following temporary starting points:

I have a problem with importing pictures from my Leica to LR3.
If the pic's are shot in black and white with the Leica preset, LR3 is changing them into colour images immediately after the import. The pic's are shot in RAW

I am trying to convert a CMYK logo, which I didn't design, into pantone colors for film output (for negatives to make plates for a printing press), but there are many colors and gradients in the original file. I don't know much about offset printing, as I usually use a digital press, but I need to know how to best preserve the look of the original file. I can break down into 4 colors, but I lose the gradient effect... Is there a way to preserve that effect in a film negative? (I'm working in Illustrator CS6 on Mac OS X 10.6.8)
(The image to the left is the original logo... To the right, is the 2 color (Pantone) separation image, which will work for film output, but looks significantly different than the original. I don't know much about the offset press on which these logos will be printed, but I've been told it's a maximum of 4 colors per printed image. I know the press operator can mix any pantone color, but I think the film can only be separated into a maximum of 4 different colors....

I tried following Scott Kelby's instructions for color correcting digital images in PSE 10. I was entering the values he gave for the R,G and Blue channels. I got off track and probably missed a step. Anyway, now when I try any of the auto correction features, my images look like film negatives and not like a regular digital image. How can I re-enable the auto correction features (levels, color correction, etc.) ?

When importing my pictures into lightroom, i have several pictures that have black lines through them. looks like dotted lines - no two are the same, some have it some do not.
I save the RAW data from my camera chip to an external drive. then I import the ones that I want from that external into lightroom. At first I thought it was my camers. but what else could it be? Card reader? External drive? hard drive on computer?

When I want to upload pictures into Lightroom 5.2RC the window is black and no picture is shown. This was also true for Lightroom 5. The same pictures are imported into LR 4 without any problems.
My system: 27" IMac newest generation, 16GB Ram. Uploading from a Ricoh GR, Fuji X-Pro 1, Fuji X100 directly or from a Hama cardreader USB 2 or 3.

After updating to LR 3.6 all of my files are now black & white 'highkey' and ugly as hell. Any new files I add are initially correct in the 'color' I shot them but once I select a single file they are all converted to the same crappy black/white. I uninstalled LR and reinstalled but the values are retained time and time again.

When in the Library module, when I press tab or shift tab to make the side panel(s) go away, the background is white and I would like it to be black. How do I make this change? Also, in "Lights Out" (pressing L) the background gets lighter instead of darker. How do I change this to darker?

I've been working in Lightroom 4 on a photo that I took and I have everything the way I want it (these adjustments include increasing the saturation on some colors under the HSL tab). Now I am trying to make the top half of the picture just black and white, but when I chose the Adjustment Brush and sturn the Saturation down on it to -100 and start going over the top half of the picutre, some of the colors (the ones I turned the Saturation up on under the HSL tab) dull a little but do not go completely Black & White.

I wanted to make a decal to place on the acrylic window of my PC. I found the perfect picture, which is in black and white. For it to look right though, I need to switch the black to white, and vice versa. Is there a way with Photoshop to automatically switch these, instead of having to manually switch them.

I shoot on a Canon 600D in colour JPG mode. The camera is tethered to a laptop that runs some photo booth software. The software takes the images and makes a black and white image from them. After I have finished, I copy the individual (black and white) photos from one computer to another to work on them
My question is this:
When I open up the folder of JPG images or load them into Lightroom (library multi view) on the second computer. The thumbnails appear in colour and then after about 1 second, flick to black and white. When I open up the file in full/single view/windows viewer, the large image is in black and white.
Now given that the colour information is clearly embedded in the file somewhere - is there any way to get the full version in colour?
It's similar to if I shot RAW and it was showing me the embedded JPG preview - but as I say, at no point are the photos shot in RAW.
The colour profile is sRGB.

Whenever I import photos now (LR4), they auto preset to black and white on 'Treatment' on the develop tab rather than 'Color'. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program hoping to get rid of preferences but it continues to do so.

I use Lightroom 2.2 to import and convert RAW photos from my Panasonic Lumix LX3 to DNG files. Works great except for one thing:
If I shot a photo using the LX3's 'Black and White Dynamic' preset, Lightroom imports it and a few seconds later, the photo becomes colored (really yellow) instead of remaining black and white.
That's weird since I don't use any Lightroom preset when importing these photos. It seems like Lightroom is applying some type of auto-correction to these photos.

I applied a preset to an image, and overall I like it except that it has a pinkish tone to it. The develop panel shows it as a black and white (not just desaturated) image, and there is no tone applied through the split tone panel (both saturation levels set to 0%). I can't figure out where the color is coming from -- I'd like to reduce it or change the color without having to drag it into Photoshop.

The attached file shows the front castle of a ship with two ranges of windows on its white wall. I am trying to print this image with a laser printer on a transparent film while keeping the original white of the wall, letting only the windows inside their black frame transparent (the first two window frames of the upper row on starboard have been filled with a greyish tone merely as an experiment) - as if that transparent were projected on a dark surface rather than on a white one.
since the addition of all colours (i.e. 255) is equal to white and therefore to transparency (or to the absence of colours), and since transparency will show as, well, transparency when printed on a transparent film, how can white - in this case the white background of the wall - still be added to the transparent film while keeping only the windows inside their frame transparent?
All my attempts with a variety of painting tools (including those of Mypaint) and profiles failed. Should this be done with two different layers instead?

I have a pretty standard workflow for my pictures, where i import as dng, adjust exposure and a few general parameters, and then convert them to black and white in Silver FX. But, there's one specific image that, when exported, looks warmer in the browser than in lightroom. I have investigated a bit on this, and here's what i've tested so far, without luck:
- Set color profile to v2 in colormunki.
- Recalibrate monitor and refresh color profile (colormunki).
- Set firefox gfx.colormanagement.mode to 1.
- Set color mode to black and white in LR. Re processed the image from scratch. Re exported.
This is the exported image:

there's a distinct warmish cast to the first image that i don't see on LR, and that i can't quite get rid of.
