Jun 26, 2012What's the best way to pre-build graphic elements and save them to be used in a composite? This is what I've done so far: used a color generator on the timeline then added the wipe effect. Within the wipe effect I created as series of shapes (which turned out to be animated which I didn't want). What I want to to do is use just 1 still frame of this graphic with its matte in a composite but I'm not sure how to get that into my connect fx or action. I tried saving that wipe effect but once in connect fx I can't access the wipes. Can I save the wipe effect as a gmask?

I am wondering, is this feature disabled because it's a free trial? Do I need to have my photos arranged differently in order for the layer column to be active and usable? Is this a feature that elements does not have?

Sep 14, 2012In preparing to build a new box for CS6 standard and LR4 (Win7, 64bit), I am not finding much info on how much video card memory CS6 is likely to be happy with, or, more accurately, what the upper limit of its usage is likely to be.
I'm running a card with 1GB now in CS5 standard and I have found that some GPU operations, such as Oil Paint in Pixel Bender, will choke and fail on 12MP, 16bit images -- normally after CS5 delivers this warning: Storage requirement for complex filters may overload GPU when processing large images.
do I need more GPU horsepower, more VRAM, or both? I know that Photoshop can allegedly get by with some fairly pedestrian hardware (I'm using an nVidia GT440 at the moment), but I plan on upgrading when building new. I'd just like to know if 2GB of VRAM will ever be used by Photoshop and how beefy a GPU I really need for processing the aforementioned 12MP, 16bit images (at some point that MP number will only become larger).

Photoshop :: Could Not Build Preview Because Of Program Error - CS6 / Mac?
Dec 22, 2012I have a very simple two-layer image, and am using layer style "bevel and emboss" and the preview of changes starts out working fine. A little more monkeying around and the preview stops refreshing and the OK button just flashes. Click on OK to exit the layer style window and try to save the file (so I can quit and come back in) and I get this error: "Cannot build a preview because of a program error" and the file is not saved.
I found a similar thread on a support forum that suggested disabling all visible layers and saving, which works for saving the file. But when I try to preview my layer changes, it's back to the way it was: the first preview may show, then it stops entirely.
I am using CS6 13.1 x64 extended on a Mac running 10.8.2 with 8G of RAM and no other open apps.

Photoshop :: Bridge CS6 Could Not Build Preview Because Of Disk Error - Mac 10.8.2?
Jan 16, 2013The crashes always occur while editing a photo in the Camera Raw editor in Bridge (most of the time they are JPG files, yes you can edit JPGS in the Adobe Camera Raw editor) and then hit the "Open Image" button that will open the image in Photoshop. Often Bridge, Photoshop and InDesign all are "not responding" and have to be force quit.
Always when I'm editing a photo in Photoshop that is on a server I get the " Could not create a preview because of a disk error message" which I have to hit the OK button to clear. I just tested this several times and I never get the disk error message when editing an image from my hard drive. I suspect there is a network communication problem.

Jul 2, 2013I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. Until recently, I've had no problem with fill layers. I'd make a selection from the photo, then I'd make a layer of the selection, then I'd go to edit, fill layer, fill with background/foreground color. Then the selection only would be filled. Now, all of a sudden, I make the selection, make a layer of the selection, go to edit/fill layer/fill with background/foreground color, and the whole photo becomes filled with the fill color, and not just the selection. I'm always on the selection layer, not the background or any other layer. I've reset all the tool defaults, and I've even deleted the defaults file, but to no avail.

For some odd reason i can only set up 3 layers on the layers panel. Can you set up 8 or more layers(that become visible) on layers display. My lasso tool seems to be working normally now. etc.

Feb 1, 2014I am still having a difficult time understanding how to use layers to edit photos in photoshop elements 12. All of the tutorials I have viewed about this have one common theme: the best way to edit photos in photoshop is to create multiple "layers" of the original background image so that different types of edits can be made to each layer, and not the original. This way the edits made to each layer can be compared to the original to make sure everything looks the way it should. Once all the edits have been made, then each layer is merged into one final touched up image, correct? Here is what is driving me mad. I have been lead to believe that when I edit a layer of an image, that any edits I make are only supposed to show up in the active layer and not in the original or any of the other layers I create. Is this true? If so, how can I set up my editor so that the edits I am making are only showing up in the layer I am actually working on? It seems to me that if the edits I make are going to show up in every layer, along with the original, then there is no need to use layers at all for editing photos.
