Photoshop Elements :: How To Get Photos Into Layers
Jul 23, 2013
how to get photos from the Photo Bin into layers. It's probably something simple but for three days I've been hunting and I guess I keep missing it. I'm on Photoshop Elements 11.
I am still having a difficult time understanding how to use layers to edit photos in photoshop elements 12. All of the tutorials I have viewed about this have one common theme: the best way to edit photos in photoshop is to create multiple "layers" of the original background image so that different types of edits can be made to each layer, and not the original. This way the edits made to each layer can be compared to the original to make sure everything looks the way it should. Once all the edits have been made, then each layer is merged into one final touched up image, correct? Here is what is driving me mad. I have been lead to believe that when I edit a layer of an image, that any edits I make are only supposed to show up in the active layer and not in the original or any of the other layers I create. Is this true? If so, how can I set up my editor so that the edits I am making are only showing up in the layer I am actually working on? It seems to me that if the edits I make are going to show up in every layer, along with the original, then there is no need to use layers at all for editing photos.
I'm still having a difficult time understanding how to use layers to edit digitial photos in photoshop. Based on every tutorial I've tried, I have found a common theme: the best way to edit photos is by creating copies of the original image and making different types of edits to each copy and then merging these edited copies into one final image that reflects all the edits combined. I have been lead to believe that the reason for making copies of the original image is so that edits can be made to each individual "layer" and not to the original photo. This way the edited layers can be compared to the untouched original to make sure everything looks the way its supposed to. Here is what is frustrating me to death. No matter how many "layers" I create of my original image, every edit I make shows up in every other layer I create along with the original. I thought that any edits I make to the active layer are only supposed to show up on that layer and no where else. Is this true? If so, how do I set up my editor so that the edits I make only show up in the layer I am actually working on? It seems to me if the edits I make are going to always show up in every layer I have created, and in the orignal image, then there is no point in using layers at all when I edit my photos.
How do you stack different photos in the editor layers pallet? I can get different photos in the editor, but I cannot figure out how to get different photos into the layers pallet at the same time.
I want to add the same 3 adjustment layers to about 20 photos and then in scripts, export layers to files, so that each photo includes the adjustments.
All of my image layers have randomly converted to smart object layers and I can no longer resize them in the ps document. Why would it do this and how can I undo it?
How do I create layers in an adjustment layer and transfer or duplicate those layers in another image ?
I need to transfer the same colour readjustment from one image to several other images ... I have been told to do this in the adjustment layer platform how ever I cannot drag or copy those layers over to the other images I have open and in need of adjustment to the same layers ...
Images shows my layout and what i've done this far
When opening my jpeg photos in Photoshop elements 9, once saved elements seems put the image in a format that my Apple Mac isn't compatible with. So when I then try and upload the images to Facebook or other software in a bulk upload the images are highlighted and I therefore can't select them and upload.
New user to PSE11. Is it recommended that ALL photos be in albums or is the idea that photos in albums are a subset of the photos in folders? With all the sort and search functionality, I don't understand the benefit of albums.I name my image folders using a standard naming convention with the date embedded so it makes them rather easy to manage.
The instructions in Adobe Photo Elements 11 Classroom In a Book are the classic Windows "Drag and Drop" Method. However, when I try to do it, the cursor/icon I am dragging turns into a gray circle with a gray diagonal when it reaches the Media Browser pane in the Organizer and the folder/photo is not imported into the Organizer when I "drop." Do I need to change setting in Windows (Vista, SP2) or Photoshop Elements 11?
My photos are OK in the Organizer, but the portrait photos are cut off at the top or bottom when used in a slide show. I have checked the "Crop to Fit" portrait selection but it makes no difference. I have Version 9 of Elements.
I just upgraded to photoshop elements 11. When I attempt to sync photos in iTunes (to synch with my iPhone), Photoshop Elements appears in the drop down and when I select it, it finds all the "albums" in the catalog. However, when I select an album to sync, iTunes indicates 0 photos are available in the album.
I'm running photoshop elements 11, iTunes 11.0.1.12, Windows 8 Pro.
if I try to sync "all photos and albums" it still reports that there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've tried to make new albums, which iTunes "sees" the names, but there are "0 photos" available to sync.
I've also tried to sync with a folder (file system) which works just fine.
I can not paste photos from my photos file. If I start a blank file I can paste anything photos want from the web in as many layers as I want. If I try to paste a photo from my own photos file it becomes the back ground by itself. I don't know how to stop this. Using photoshop elements 11.
I am redoing a series of photos using a specific set of layers and filters, it takes quite some time to open all the stuff for each photo. I sthere a way to automate all or part of this process?
I am trying to add several photos to a frame. I just downloaded the free trial of photoshop elements 12, but the entire column labeled 'layer' is disabled. I can't use clipping mask. I am wondering, is this feature disabled because it's a free trial? Do I need to have my photos arranged differently in order for the layer column to be active and usable? Is this a feature that elements does not have?
I have been using LR 4 with PSE 11, and have had no problems. I just installed LR 4 on a new computer, and upgraded to PSE 12. Now, when I send a photo to edit in PSE, from LR, I am not able to create or duplicate layers.( The layers dropdown menu is grayed out). When I open a photo directly from PSE, it works fine.
I have just downloaded the trial version of PE12 and the Layers drop-down menu is completely grayed out. I have tried clicking on the layers icon at the bottom of the page but cannot access new layers or any layer option. Are layers not available on the trial version?
I have downloaded my photos to a DVD disc. Only 2 were not PSD and they are the only ones I can view on my TV. Is it not possible to download and view these PSD photos. They are the ones I have altered slightly in Photoshop Elements 10.
How do I 'stitch' together or place together 10 different photos into one? I know how to do a panorama, but these are all differend and don't have borders the same.
We use Elements 4 and Photoshop CS2. When we open files made in the other program and try to edit text we get a dialog saying that the text has to be rasterized. Will this still happen if we upgrade to Elements 6?
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. Until recently, I've had no problem with fill layers. I'd make a selection from the photo, then I'd make a layer of the selection, then I'd go to edit, fill layer, fill with background/foreground color. Then the selection only would be filled. Now, all of a sudden, I make the selection, make a layer of the selection, go to edit/fill layer/fill with background/foreground color, and the whole photo becomes filled with the fill color, and not just the selection. I'm always on the selection layer, not the background or any other layer. I've reset all the tool defaults, and I've even deleted the defaults file, but to no avail.
