I like to make drop shadows under our products on our brochures. While they look great on screen, they suffer from banding on the printed pieces via offset printing. Here's how I make them now in CS6:
Create a layer under the main image. On this layer use Rectangle Marquee tool to create box in location of desired shadow.Hit Shift + F5 and Fill with Black.Deselect the black filled box.Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and select a radius of 40-80 depending on the size of the image.Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and select a distance of 125 -250 depending on the size of the image. Also select appropriate angle to match image.
I've talked to my printer and they said this is fine but they also said to make sure I'm filling the box with only K and not RGB (which I am) and to adjust opacity so it's below 25%. The problem is when I set the opacity of the shadow layer to 25%, the shadows are barely visible. This is not what I want. I want a nice dark shadow under the main portion of the product and the fading out to nothing. The way I do it now looks great on screen so how do I get it to look great on paper?

I need an offset lisp routine to offset a selected line a set distance on each side of the selected line and change the layer of the offset lines to the current layer, and then keep prompting me to select the next line for offsetting until I'm finished.

I am trying to create a station-offset label style that will drop the trailing zeros in the offset section - e.g. 15' instead of 15.00', but if the offset is not at a whole number, e.g. 15.01, etc. it will display the entire offset.
I created two expressions: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
and this one: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)!=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
I then created two offset components, one called truncated, and one called full, and assigned the heights to match the expressions.
I have attached the file, the style is ACHD-Sta Off-Rt [copy]

I am using MAYA 2012 on Windows 7. When I import audio (.WAV) it works fine, but if I offset it to a later frame the waveform moves to the right frame but when scrubbing the audio stays at 0. Making if very difficult to lip-sync. I have tried re-caching, playing the scene all the way through and all other options I have seen online.

I need a pit configuration, and I use the offset command to offset a base polyline to first 10 m and then 3 and so on.. is there a way to do this in an automatically way, that you can choose the lenght of the offset for each "offset" (i.e. 1st 10 m, 2nd 3, 3rd 10 m, 4th 3 m, and so on. I am actually using civil 3D.

How do I convert the colour profile of a Lightroom custom printing package from Adobe Prophoto to sRGB before printing? For that matter, how do I save the thing? I have no interest in saving the template, or the collection separately, since neither has any use without the other. And without saving them as one finished item, I have no way to convert the colour profile of that item. I can see clearly from the appearance of the print preview that the above mentioned colour profile conversion is required.

I have an image with a gradient in it.
I select the gradient with a rectangular marquee size of 7x25 px
Edit > Define Pattern
I create a new layer
bring up a new rectangular marquee size of 7x25 px
select 'Paint Bucket Tool'
change 'Fill' to 'Pattern'
select the pattern I just created
then click inside of Marquee
The pattern is there, but it is offset vertically and repeating. The pattern looks fine in the Pattern select dropdown window..

I recently installed a Wacom Intuos4 tablet onto my computer and I now seem to have a problem where the centre of the mark made by a brush is lower than than the centre of the brush cursor.
In other words, the physical mark made by the brush seems to be offset on the y-axis, making it difficult to gauge where to place the brush when drawing.
I'm a novice to tablets, and not particularly adept at photoshop. The only things I changed as far as I know were the Shape Dynamics and Other Dynamics in the brush settings, to set up the tablet, and these have no effect on it when I restore them to their original settings.
Also, it seems to be an intermittent problem, only occuring on some documents.

I've been using the offset filter for years to create seamless patterns with predictable results - I choose "Wrap around" and when I enter the distance the parts of the image that go off one side show up on the opposite side. Now, with CS6, sometimes it works as expected and sometimes parts of the image go missing when (if) it shows up on the other side. I've discovered that when this happens if I go to Image - reveal all that often times those lost pixels are outside of the viewable canvas. However, sometimes reveal all doesn't show anything new and the pixels have just been lost.I know there are not extra pixels outside the canvas are before I run the filter so I don't understand how this is happening.
I have found is to select all and crop the image between every offset. Sometimes I'm offsetting 20-30 layers in a row (because you can't apply a filter to multiple layers at once, so annoying). Otherwise, if I'm not careful after I've offset everything I go to check the pattern and realize i lost parts of my image.

I find one of the changes to the interface quite unfriendly for pen/tablet use. The drop-down menus for File, Edit, Image, and Layer are offset to the right of each menu item's live area. That means having to be extra careful when moving the cursor down the list so the menu doesn't accidentally snap closed. The remaining drop down menus are flush right with the item's live area, so they don't present the same problem.
I killed the annoying tabs feature and that doesn't affect the offset pull-downs. Illustrator has the same behavior, so I assume the offset behavior is consistenet through the CS4 applications. Nope. Bridge CS4 doesn't have the offset. Nor does Acrobat Pro.
It's nice that in an era of multiple and large displays that Adobe's interface designers were inspired to try and free up interface workspace. But a little interface design detail like this offset is a daily aggravation that doesn't have any benefit that I can discern.

I just upgraded to cs6 and have found everything to be great except for an offset problem I'm having with the artisan brushes like Round Point Stiff. In CS5 the paint position (precise point) was in the middle of the brush tip icon.. now it's off to the opposite side of the brush icon. See image example.
I've tried to change my brush tip settings and Ive tried to make do with just using the precise icon instead but not knowing the rotation and angle of the brush witht he visual icon is very hard to pinpoint, especially if the stroke happens off to the left of my precise cursor.
In CS6
In CS5
Is there something I need to enable on my end or is this working as intended? Is there a way I can just hack it on m y end to revert it back to the way cs5 (and the rest of the brushes in the brush folder) work?

I'm using Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 6 and I'm having fun with it. But there's one functionality I can't seem to find that I really need. I'm a CAD operator (and have that mentality), and I really want my AutoCAD Offset tool. It allows you to copy a line or shape a certain distance away. More importantly, if you "offset" a shape inside or outside it's boundary, it automatically makes the new shape equidistant from all the borders.
Anyway to do it in Xara P&GD6?

PSP 4x. when I "copy" an image from the web or other program and paste as a new image or any other option, it pastes "offset" That a piece of the image is cut off the right side and shows on the left as though it was a wrap around. This does not happen in PSP3x Must be some adjustment but cannot find.

I have a drawing that has a connection to OS background map data which is an SDF file.
I want to create new entities in their own new autocad layer based on an offset value from a line in the SDF data.
For example I want to create a new line in a new layer that is say 1.0m offset from a kerb line that appears in the SDF file called OSMMLINE.
I do not want to add these new entities to the SDF data.
When I try to use the offset command Map starts to "populate feature Cache" which takes several minutes, then I can use the offset command in the usual way and create a new line - which "properties" says is in a feature class layer called OSMMLINE(1).

(I have tested this on both Map 2010 and Map 2014 but it could be happening in other AutoCad platforms)
when offsetting a polyline with a shallow deflection, the newly created polyline is created incorectly.
I have a 2 segment polyline with a 0D03'00" deflection. when I offset it, the vertex of the new polyline is created in the wrong location. On a polyline with a 0d04'00" deflection, offset works correctly.
If I explode the polyline, offset the lines and fillet them, the vertex is correct.
Attached is the final result. The red polyline is the polyline with a 3' deflection and the green polyline has a 4' deflection. when offset the vertex's should land at the center of the circles that are drawn but the red polyline vertex is incorrect by 0.00654456.

im stuck on an assignment, below are the instructions.
Row 2: Use L_15:red
- Starting with the right side of row 2, connect midpoints of the cell with a line to form a rotated square dimond (which i did)
- Next offset each visible line segment 8' ft. in all directions till all areas are filled with the pattern trimming and filleting as requred to define each as in row 1.
- The next square in the row, sub-divide the inner square by drawing lines from the midpoints to form an inner sqare, the offset 4'ft. in each direction maintaing the new areas created and fill as before to define the areas. Remember to use the same logic as in row 1, fill all areas defined by red line boundaries.
- the next square in the row sub-divide the inner aware by drawing lines from midpoints to form another inner diamond, then offset 2' ft in each direction as in previous operations.
- continue this logic of sub-division and density till you finish the second row.
- when you finish you should have a row of 5 squares movies from tighter density to lighter density of lines from left to right.
i got past the 2nd cell, sort of stuck on the 3rd, 4th, 5th (going from right to left) how the next three cells would look like (on the second column)

When I'm trying to select/move/do anything anywhere on my workspace (not the UI, the actual window where you model), the cursor is offset by about a centimeter. I've tried running as administrator/doing all sorts of compatibility things and resetting the user interface in Max. I've also tried changing various settings on my video card (power saving off and whatnot).
I'm running windows 7 64 bit, all drivers are up to date.

I've been using autocad for quiet a few years, I can do most of what i want but I might be missing some basic knowledge. I've been creating some template for drawing which include different layout A4, A3, landscape and portrait.
If I use plot/print using cutepdf or adobepdf as a printer the results are good (print the same than the preview). But when I use publish using dwg to pdf then my layout are shifted to the right outside of the printing boundary.
