How do I get rid of them to reduce clutter?

Photoshop :: CS4 Keeps Resetting To Factory Default - Deleting Brushes?
Sep 14, 2012Twice now, upon a restart of my computer, Photoshop has reset to factory settings, and deleted all my custom brushes I've made since a particular point in time. I've had to remake some brushes for my digital art course twice, and now I'll have to do it a third time. This is EXTREMELY DISTRESSING...
 This started happening only recently. I can only guess perhaps an update to Windows or something has really jerked up my Photoshop, not sure.Â

Sep 17, 2011I'm not sure why it took me so long to realize this, but apparently I have a bunch of double brushes loaded in my Custom Brushes Mini plug in. From the looks of it, I did two things: 1) I added several sets of brushes twice, and 2) On the majority of the sets, I loaded both the brush and the brush preview (from ABR). So now it is registering that I have over 600 brushes, when the number is closer to 350.
Is there a way to delete out those extra brushes and previews from the plug in? I'm expecting it to be slow loading, because of the brushes anyway. But taking off all of those extras would still work quite a bit in speeding things up.
Photoshop :: Sort Brushes In The Brushes Palette?
Jan 30, 2006I am interested in grouping and sorting brushes according to size, shape, whatever.
Right now when I add a brush library, they just stack on top of one another.
For example let's say I have a round brush with a 10 diameter, then next to it a round brush with a 20 diameter. If I make a 15, it goes to the bottom of the list, and I have to scroll all around. How can I group them?
I suspect I would have to make my own brush library with my brushes how I want them, then save that and load it?

I've seen they are arranged by name, so how do you rename the brushes since renaming the file name don't rename the brush.

Feb 17, 2006When I try to create a mask in photoshop CS, for some reason my picture starts to get deleted. In the picture below, I copied the background layer, and then deleted the background layer leaving me with just the copied layer. I clicked Add Layer Mask, and then clicked the Layer Mask Thumbnail in the Layers tab and then I clicked the Brush icon to begin making my mask.
In the next picture below, I tried to make my mask, but instead of that red color I normally get that show's where i'm masking, the picture is just erased.

I've been dragging each line to the trash bin but it's slow going if you have a lot to get rid of.

Jul 21, 2009All of my files were backed up and easily transfered to my new computer. Today I was doing some cleanup and wanted to move or delete some older psd files. These were created in CS2 (I have CS3 now) and haven't been opened since getting my new computer. Windows will not allow me to delete, move or rename several of these files. It tells me that they are "open in another application" even when photoshop isn't even open. I have tried opening a couple of them in CS3 and then closing them to see if this changes their status but the result is the same. How can I change their "open" status, delete, move or rename them at this point.

Nov 21, 2008My production workflow involves about 20 PSDs that are updated on a weekly basis. Each PSD has 4 groups with new product images added every week. Every few weeks, to keep file size down, I like to delete all but the most recent product image. I'd like to automate this. I'm curious if this can be done without scripting? As is right now, each layer is given a distinct layer number - If I record an action to delete layers, it only deletes the layers with matching numbers... ie if I record the action to delete layer 147, layer 147 has to be present to make the action work.

Dec 15, 2012how to delete layers/items from the 3D layers panel? Specifically, 3D layers that have been merged. I merged few 3D layers and need to remove some unwanted items that are left behind.

It would seem like a simple task but I've ended up with one 3D layer in my layers palet and a list of layers in my 3D palet that are all locked. Is this normal? Attached is a screenshot of both layers palets and my doc mode, just in case.
Photoshop :: Can't Run CS5 Without Deleting Preferences File
Mar 26, 2012I've installed newly purchased Photoshop CS5 on my relatively new (4 months old) Macbook Pro computer. I've uninstalled/reinstalled 3 or 4 times; same results each time. What happens is I can open the program once normally, right after install, and begin to work on a new project. Shortly thereafter it crashes, and from then on I cannot use the software unless I hold down shift-option-cmd to delete the preferences file, every time I open it. If I don't delete the preferences file, the software will open but nothing in it works. Everything is non-responsive or acts weirdly, until I hit certain buttons which just causes it to crash. As long as I've deleted the preferences file when starting it, all is well. If I don't do that, I can't use the software.

Photoshop :: Can't Start CS5 Without Deleting Preferences File
Feb 28, 2012I have a Macbook Pro running Lion, OS X 10.7 that I purchased two months ago so it's relatively new. Just bought Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended and installed it on the computer a day ago. Software will not operate unless I hold option+command+shift when starting so that the preferences file is deleted.

I suspect that the problem stems from a plugin that I deposited into the plugins folder, because the software was working at first. I didn't piece this together until after the fact, but once I fired up the software a couple times after installing it, it worked fine each time. I noodled around and checked some things out to see what's new in CS5, then I went ahead and deposited a favorite plugin into the plugins folder. Things stopped working after this. Not positive the plugin is related, but thought I should mention it.

I removed the plugin of course, to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software three times. No difference. When I open the software without deleting the prefs file, it's just buggy and non-responsive. Can't start a new project, and thing just end up crashing every time. The software is useless without deleting the prefs file when firing it up.

Dec 19, 2007I'm trying to delete or erase a portion of a stroke but the stroke "moves around" when using the eraser tool or it simply just shifts if I try to use the marquee tool then hitting delete.
I've tried a few methods of the stroke and they all seem to not want to be partially deleted.
I've tried the Rectangle Tool in the Shape layers mode, then I rasterize the shape, then grab the erase - no luck.
I think I mostly need direction on what tool I should use in makin the stroke.
