Photoshop :: Correct Sizing Of A Picture For Printing
Apr 26, 2009
Is there a correct way to size pictures for printing. This is what I have done.My camera is set of 6 meg’s which gives me a huge original. I want to take this and print on a 4x6.I bring up the picture, select print > click on “scale to fit media. This gives me the size of5.333 X 4. I go back to the picture select: Image>Image Size. Under Document size I enter 5.333 in the Width.

I'm working for a client watermark his images. He has designed a watermark in PS CS6 that extends across the bottom of the image, the full width of the image. Like this:
Obviously, the images to be watermarked are all different widths and the watermark gets scaled up or down accordingly which is not the desired effect. On tall/thin images, the watermark is barely visible. Vice versa on wide or square images. I have tried many different widths of the watermark based on the widest and thinnest images. It works, but still not the desired effect for my client.
I've installed the Adobe Watermark Panel, but it seems that it wants to resize images with a width/height box on the right of the image quality and ppi boxes. (I might be reading that wrong though)
I've also tried several freeware programs. All work fine, but my client doesn't seem to think so.
So the question is, can I apply a watermark that doesn't get scaled? I know image height is a factor. I could write my own application to do it, but this seems like a re-inventing the wheel issue. I think the watermark should be scaled in height to a percentage of the image being watermarked and any excess width should be cut or truncated.

I have created a Photoshop image to print on a 8.5 x 11 inch canvas size (letter paper) and have scaled the document inside the canvas with 1/4 inches on all sides of the image. However shows that the image is over and above the allowable printable area for a letter size page.
I have to resize the image for printing to get the entire image in the letter size page. Problem is, the image gets off center once resized for printing.
Is there any set margins in photoshop or by the printer to require a border ? margins ? i am stumped as the image is within the 8.5x11" canvas size, but shows the image as larger (oustside the printable area) on the print preview....thinking there is some unwritten safety margins on the letter document i have missed.

ive search and i m all most sure that there is a thread somewhere here to answer this question but i cant find it - if you know please point me in the direction. Otherwise here it is.: Yesterday i went to my lokal photo/printing store asking them to print some 15x20 cm!! pictures with a white frame - probably !/2 cm in each side.
Im shooting with a d20 canon(just purchased it) wich has a crop factor. Thats why he told me to go home and resize my pictures(make 2:3 ratio) to actually fit a 15x20 cm. But as i see it 15x20 isent a 2:3 ratio - but 15x22,5 is!! Thats why im confused about in wich size i should deliver my pictures for printing. And further more if it is me who should make room for the white frame.

I am changing the size of a bunch of photos from 72 ppi to 300 ppi (for printing in a book). When I change the resolution to 300 ppi, the width and height and file size shoot up of course. I want to keep the high quality - but should I untick the resampling box, or do it with the resampling box ticked - then reduce the size?

I have a small print shop and have had an issue with the new Photoshop CC not printing images with correct margins on and Epson 9890 and 11880. If I set the image to center on an 8x10 sheet (or any other size). The image comes out skewed to the upper left. between .125 and .25 inches to the left and to the top. I never had this issue with other versions of Photoshop.

I'm using CS5 on Windows. I created a photoshop file using the International Paper settings A4, which is 297 by 210 and 150 pixels per inch.
I've used the whole area around the document but I left around a 5mm margin around the edge of the document. When I come to print the document does not appear to be scaled correctly in the print preview, and then when I come to print on A4 paper measuring exactly 297 x 210 a large part of the image is chopped off at the bottom.
Why Photoshop seems to indicate it is a 297 x 210 file but when it comes to printing it is not scaled correctly?

I'm trying to convert a hand drawn paper plan of our house into Autocad so that I can tweak it. I'm not bad at drawing things in autocad, but how to set it up properly for the file to be printed out in a shop on A0 at the correct scale. Either some info on how to set it up, or a template file that is already setup would be great.

I have a picture that is approximate 5 inches, by 10 inches. I want to blow the picture up to approx. 19x7 inches. But my question is, after I blow it up, and place it on a new image template, how will I know the "final" product will be proportioned correctly (with exact correct proportions as original pic) when I print it out.
Does GIMP "automatically" proportion the image correctly, or is there some mathematical equation/something to figure out the correct equation.

I have a picture that is 21x32cm in 300ppi. I want to print it to 50x70cm in digital printer.
I need to enlarge it to fit, right? What are the settings I should use in the image size dialog box?
Should it remain 300ppi or perhaps 600 ppi?
Should I resample pixels or not?

I opened a .pdf with an image in the middle that I need to print (house plot map). I then cropped that image from the center so I could get it a bit bigger. The first print was almost perfect, but it lost a bit on two corners. I didn't change any settings and now it's only printing one corner of the image on a full page...really big!
I just need the image to scale to the page. Of course I've selected scale to fit media on the print page. It shows the image on the left of the print page and it looks perfect. Using Photoshop CS3 on Win 7.

How can I automatically add different pictures in a single canvas using Picture package? i.e. I have about 48 pictures and I want to place 4 different pictures to each [10 X 8 - "4(4X5)"] canvas so that I can send all 48 pictures for printing at a digital studio. When I try, multiple copies of single picture appear on each canvas. I tried 'contact sheet' but not satisfied with the result as I could not change the length and width of the pictures.

Brand new GIMP user. I have been able to layer my pictures to create the effect I want. My problem is PRINTING. I can print but it is only printing half of the picture. Trying to print 4x6. If I flip the setup on my printer to landscape it only shows the bottom of the picture and it is not centered, the right size, and is on the top middle of my 4x6 photo paper. If I leave at portrait, it only hows the right side of the picture and, again, is the worng size and on the left side of the photo paper. Obviously I am missing something very basic?

Starting this week, when I print my note cards from LR, the greenish line (aproximately 1/8") is added to the top of every photo. It's not noticable if I do draft mode printing. Also, if I print to jpeg file, then print this file outside LR, it's not there. I blamed it on 3.6 upgrade first, rolled back to 3.5, but it haven't solved the problem. I'm on Windows 7 and HP Photosmart Premium C309a printer. I really need to print lots of cards and I cannot!
Addition on 12/17/11 - the line is not noticable on black or any darker color.

Why can't I fix the size of my image in Photoshop? I try to make it, for example, 3.5" x 2.5", and have tried both the image size AND canvas size options. When I go and check the image size, it is 3.52" x 2.51", for instance. I've never encountered this before (using Photoshop 12 years now), and don't know how to fix this.

I am a digital scrapbook designer and I, and several fellow designers, have just started experiencing some odd behavior in CS. It is occuring on both Mac and PC platforms and in versions of CS3 through 5.
We create 12 x 12 in (3600 x 3600 px) 300 dpi documents used by our customers as "backgrounds" for digital scrapbooking kits. We save the documents as jpg's Basline Standard, anywhere from 8-12. Sometimes, if we open a saved jpg and place (drag) it onto a new 12 x 12 document, we notice that the saved file is just a bit and sometimes as much as an 8th of an inch smaller than the new document, even though they are both 12 x 12, 300 dpi. Additionally sometimes when we drag the saved files from Finder or Windows Explorer to a new document while holding the shfit key to center placement, we're still off by that same 8th of an inch. Sometimes, if we align the horizontonal and vertical, the same jpg will be perfectly aligned and no longer too small for the 12 x 12 document and sometimes you can very clearly see the edges of the layer beneath.
This issue is driving us nuts because it just started happening recently and our customers, who very often have their finished scrapbook pages printed, have also started noticing. I don't have a clue where start trouble-shooting this.
