Photoshop :: Controlling Brush Darkness With Intuos5 Pen Pressure?

I just bought a pressure sensitve tablet (wacom intuos5 medium).

I want to set it up so I can practice "charcoal drawing" in photoshop without the mess. Specifically, I want the pressure to control the darkness of the brush tool, from very faint to completely black.

So, in the brushes window, I enabled "other dynamics" and set the flow control to pen pressure. It works but not very well. It's hard to draw a faint line, and faint lines appear to be made up of discrete circles.

I also try linking the opacity to the pen pressure, and set flow to 100%. This work better for faint lines, but I'm unable to draw a completely black line. It seems the opacity maxed out at about 40%. I don't want to apply too much pressure lest I break the tablet.
I just got the Intuos5 and it works well except for the pen pressure feature for varying brush size or opacity. I can't get either to work. I have the latest driver, I think (where is the driver located on the Mac in OSX 10.6.8?). The tablet is attached directly to my iMac. I've sent two message to Wacom tech support and they don't respond. how I can get this working?
I got Photoshop CS6 Extended recently, but the lines I draw in it aren't smooth, like they should be (example below). The tablet produces perfect lines in any other bit of software (Flash, ToonBoom, etc.), but not Photoshop.
I've tried lots of different solutions (uninstalling and reinstalling it, reverting back to an earlier driver, clearing preferences, etc.), to no avail. Oddly, my Intuos3 works fine in Photoshop, for a few minutes, before it crashes. If I try to adjust the Wacom Tablet Properties for CS6, it doesn't recognize any changes, but if I adjust the settings for Photoshop CS4, it does. All Wacom Drivers are up-to-date.
Is it possible to map '[' and ']' to the wheel on a mouse? I think that it would be much easier to control brush size like this than using those keys. If not, I'll just try to find adjacent keys on the left size of the keyboard to do that.
I've just started using CS4 and the pen pressure when drawing using my wacom tablet seems to be sporadic at best.
It doesn't matter what brush size I pick, when I start drawing, however lightly, the brush will frequently, and it appears randomly, just draw a line to its full thickness. It's annoying because it sort of responds to the pen pressure but then will just suddenly stick a big thick line in for no reason.
Things I have already tried to fix this:
•adjusting the flow %
•playing with the pen presure slidey bar in brush menu/ shape dynamics
•adjusting the pen sensitivity in the wacom tablet setup.
What's really annoying is have been using my tablet with photoshop 5 for years and it's worked perfectly. CS4 seems to be quite buggy though. It crashed today after telling me something about gpu enhancements (?) and zooming using the wacom slider sometimes decides not to work.
I'm using a Cintiq 18sx, and its pressure sensitivity is working great in programs such as Flash, but when it comes to photoshop, there is absolutely no brush sensitivity.
I have gone into the brush shape dynamics settings and set it to pen pressure, but finds nothing. I'm not exactly sure what to do now.
I know that there must be a button staring me in the face but I can't find it.
My healing brush is pressure sensitive for size, but I don't want it to be. I've turned all the options off in the brush palette but it makes no difference. I cannot see any option on the option bar for this either. PS8
So I'm attempting to draw in Photoshop, but every time I put the pen on the tablet, the slightest pressure opens the brush size menu off to the side of my pen. I can't figure out how to turn this off. I can't sketch at all .
I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro in anticipation of running Photoshop on it. I installed Photoshop and tried to do some sketches. I created a new file and started sketching. I Immediately felt like something was wrong. I checked my brush settings and saw the pressure sensitivity was not available. Everytine I tried to turn it on it was marked with an exclamation point.  Does Adobe is supporting the new pressure sensitive pen from microsoft, or if there is some sort of setting that I am missing? I have tried sketchbook pro 2011, and that works amazingly well with the pen.Â
Intuos5 pressure-sensitive tablet Win7 64-bit PS 5.5  In Photoshop 5, if I turn on the pressure sensitivity while using the Clone tool (and perhaps other tools as well...) I have to bear down very hard to make the pixels being cloned appear in the entire circle [brush] specified. The behavior I want is, instead, to be able to CHOOSE 1. pressure changes size of the flow within the brush [size]setting or 2. the full brush size places cloned pixels on the image at a rate of flow directly controlled by the pressure I exert on the pen nib.  There are some kinds of images that need to go back and forth easily between the two choices. Behavior now is just #1.
I have PSE 11. When working with the Bloat or Pucker tools in the Liquify filter, the Brush Pressure option fades to gray; the only slider I can actually change is the Brush Size. The problem seems to have started about three weeks ago on my old laptop, which was due to be replaced in any case. I've since purchased a new laptop and have done a full install of PSE 11 on it from the original disks - but the problem still persists.
What I would like to do is to get the stroke shape, pressure and maybe velocity after a `Brush Tool' drawing action is triggered by the user, i.e. after a simple drawing operation.
I have been using the ScriptListener plugin, but it does not record this type of operation: changing the brush parameters (e.g. size and opacity), yes, but the actual drawing action, no.
I am using illustrator for doing some calligraphy and I am not really experienced with this program. I am using a mouse pen with pressure to draw/write calligraphies. My question is, can I change the pressure amount after I drew lines using brush tool. Let’s say I drew a line, it is good but still not satisfactory. I just want to do a little change in pressure amount in some segments –not all the line- on line. Does illustrator give me this option?
In Photoshop CS6 (64bit), when using the brush tool (with a brush with pressure sensitivity activated), I quite often get a line drawn at the max width selected, as if there was no pressure sensitivity. Everything goes back to normal after I start drawing another line, and happens again after a few lines. It's quite random. Â Â I don't have this problem in any other software (Illustrator CS6 64bit, Painter XII, Sketchbook Pro, Zbrush, ...). I have already checked and I've found some other users on other forums with the same problem.
One example, with a picture of the problem: [URL] Another one, exact same problem: [URL] Some of those users seem to have solved their problem by installing an old driver (6.1.5r3), but they had that problem with Intuos TABLETS in the first place, not a Cintiq 24HD... I have tried that, but unfortunately the driver is not compatible with the Cintiq 24HD. Â Â To test this out: I've been able to reproduce the problem 90% of the times I've tried. if I keep the pen at 1 inch from the display so that it's still recognized by the screen but it's not drawing, then wiggle it a bit, and then I slowly move to the screen and tap it (as if I was starting a line with very low pressure), the problem appears and it makes a large dot, as if there was no pressure sensitivity. As I said the test doesn't work every time, but almost. Â Â This is an image of what happens when I try and make dots in Photoshop. These are done trying to push the pen with the same (low) pressure. The big ones are from when the issue appears: [URL]Â Â I have tried the pressure test in the Wacom utility software and it seems to work fine, it never jump to full even when I try the method I've just described. In the diagnostic page of the Wacom utility software the pressure is always correct, even when in Photoshop there's the brush sensitivity issue. Â note: I've already tried to completely re-install my computer + the Adobe software + the lastest wacom driver for my Cintiq 24HD, and the problem is still the same.
I recently installed Windows 8 RTM and Photoshop CS6 Standard. I have installed the patch brining it up to 13.1 but rotate via the intuos tablet and it doesn't work. Intuos5 has touch now and that feature works on my laptop with W7 and CS5. Rotate canvas is also available on the touch ring but that doesnt work either.Â
I have desktop PC with optical mouse photoshop CS5 when I try to use pen pressure feature of brush, I got a pale trangle beside said " require pressure sensitive tablet"..So; can I use the pen pressure feature?
I can only do basic things (i.e burning text, lightning bolts, random-generated maps and a few others), but I want to be able to create something that embodies what I see in my mind via science and imagination - Black holes.
My question is how do I generate black holes or time-bending gravitation?
We are finalizing a monster PC build with all the bessl and whistles for our Marketing Director who lives by Adobe Creative Suite. We have installed CS6.My question is in regards to Wacom tablets ( which he has never used previousloy) Â There is a BIG diffrence in price, and being a beginer tablet user (and me being WAY over budget.. As in I have more in his PC than I have in some servers..) What do I need to be aiming at? A bamboo or a new Intuos? Â If I go bamboo I can get the largest, if I go Intuos I can go the smallest...What is the difference between the two different Wacom tablet series anywho? Â PS.. I wanted to add that I am posting it here because as some of you can imagine, corp. doesn't get everything you graphic gurus want.. This designer at our office is a really neat person and has always wanted a tablet.. I want to surprise him with one tha I went back to the store after my first post and looked again and am beyond confused at the differences between the largest bamboo and smallest intuos5 besides the size difference..
I know this was done WAY before the days of Photoshop and was done using actual lighting, but I'd like to be able to re-create a shadow over the one side of the face using photoshop. I already have my image looking exactly like the below, but without the shadow.
I am comparing multiple scanned images and I need to find out if one image is darker than another. For example, if you print a document on 5 different printers and then scan those documents into photoshop 7, is there a way to quantitatively analyze how dark each document is. Can photoshop 7 tell you the average darkness of a selected area of an image? They will all be scanned on the same scanner so the only variable should be the printers. I need a numerical value for each, not just a visual comparison.
We did some tests with a windows 8 machine and we found out that the wacom Intuos5 driver is a total mess, Especially horrible with max and all 3d apps. The right click takes 2 seconds to appear and it lags a lot in dragging windows around. The right click also has the famous circle. In other words Intuos5 is unusable for Zbrush - 3ds Max workflow.
EDIT!!!15/02/2013 Wacom posted a new driver yesterday where 3ds max’s right click doesn’t work.!!! Whenever you press it turns the right click popup window on but you can’t select anything, the window sticks there until you use a mouse or throw a wacom tablet out of a window.
I'm attaching an image where the client has requested the dark background be made a bright color, #e48da8 for example, yet still have a believable edge from hair to background. I have made a couple of attempts which have fallen short. How can I replace that darkness with a brightish color and do it convincingly, given that the darkness comes into the hair quite a bit, and the edge is feathery?
