Photoshop :: Command To Locate Layers To Bottom When Generating New One?
Feb 27, 2011
When creating a new layer I usually just click new layer button on bottom of layers window. and the new layer appears as top layer . or just above the one I'm working on.But when I get into lots of layers it gets frustrating dragging it to the bottom, is there a command to locate layers to bottom when generating a new one?
This has baffled me that photoshop does not do this. But why can't I not ctrl+click on a layer and get to the layers underneath that layer? No matter how many times I ctrl+click the layer to select it, it just selects the same topmost layer.
It is interupting my workflow majorly and it is really frustrating when using a lot of texture overlays to have to hide them and then ctrl+click to find where the layer is that I want to work on. Right clicking on my document just brings up all layers in my document no matter where my mouse is.
I've just discovered my Command Line Box at the bottom of the screen is missing in action...not sure what I did to loose it. Any COMMAND to get it back?
I like to keep my layers carefully named. I often create new layers over existing ones to build up effects and paint in details. When I merge these layers, Photoshop always assigns the new merged composite layer the name of whatever the topmost layer was. I would much prefer it to default to naming the new layer whatever the bottom layer was called. I'm using CS5.5.
I might start with my assets in a file, with layer names like: Model, Field, Product, Logo, etc... Then add effects on layers called, Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering, etc... over each original layer. When merged, instead of being named the more-appropriate names, it will of course use the top layer names and I end up with my layers called "Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering. It's made much worse when I duplicate effects to modify and apply to multiple layers, then merge, leaving me with a file with layer names "Highlight, Highlight Copy 1, Highlight Copy 2, etc..." Renaming to my original layer names is very tedious as a result.
I'm not sure exactly what I did to my photoshop. I'm use a MAC platform. This is what it looks like right now but I want to to go back to being like the image on the bottom. I think I turned on or off something but I have no clue what I did.
I have been doing so much research trying to figure this out. Either im missing something or its not possible.29571-saving-layers-seperate-files-one-persistent-layer
I ran across that post on this forum and that is exactly what i want to do (at end of post)Ive tried the LayerSaver jsx but it only allows selected layers and top layer and bottom background.
my bottom has to be transparent. I have an icon set that has a bottom group (that i can merge to layer) and a top group (that i can also merge to layer) and the middle contains my icons.
The bottom of my layers palette is below the visible part of my computer screen...becasue I am now working away from home on my laptop (and the layers palette is showing up the same size as it was when I last used Illustrator on my large monitor screen). How do I re-size it, so I can use the items at the bottom of the palette?
I have just finished designing my characters. Now I have to create my background. I figured to do this, I would simply have to create my background and hide the layers above so I can see what I'm doing. However the few lines that I've created in my background are overlaping the characters, how can I resolve this?
Also after doing a brush or creating a path in general, how do i I deselect it (instead of having to bring out the selection tool and clicking anywhere on the screen)
I jut remembered something else, if i want to select an object but the selection rectangle covers the perimeter of another object, how do I avoid selecting the other object aswell?
After closing and reopening my command prompt, I find that it is now at the bottom left of the screen and no longer part of the main graphics window. How can I get it to display at the bottom of the main display?
I have a series of sheets, each with two viewports to show two plan views of a long road alignment. I arranged them to read bottom to top, as it goes up stationing, as we do with cross section sheets, but have been told by an outside reviewer that the sheets are confusing and should read top down.
I have PS CS6 and when I click on File> Import> Video Frames to Layers.. Next, the window that says "Initializing Video Import" starting to load and always get stuck and that's what appears: "Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the DynamicLink Media Server is not available". That's with aaaall the videos.
I've been trying with File> Open but that's what says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I recently learned to make gif images using KMPlayer and my Photoshop CS6, but today I hit a snag that I can't seem to get around. Normally I capture a scene from a show DVD I have in KMPlayer and then import the video frames into layers/frames in photoshop with no problem. Well today I went to do that, and captured the scene with what seemed like no problem (the small captured scene saved with no problem) but when I went to CS6 to import the video into layers, I got the error message "Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened". At first I thought it was the KMPlayer saving the files wrong, so I retried and got the same error message. I Restored the players settings back to a default and the file still wouldn't open in photoshop, and then I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling the player trying to get it to work, and then I thought it must be photoshop, because even scenes I had captured at an earlier day that worked perfectly fine when importing would not open.
Should I uninstall/reinstall photoshop and see if that works,The files I'm trying to import are AVIs as always, I even tried to capture scenes in other formats to no avail. What could be causing the problem?
So I decided to try my hand at making gifs and so I attempted to upload a video by going to file -> import -> video frames to layers. Before even letting my pick my video it comes up with an error message saying "could not complete the video frames to layers command because dynamiclink is not availible." I then tried file -> open -> and then selected the video and no matter what file type or size I chose I ended up with the same error message.
I looked this problem up and attempted some of the solutions but to no avail. I tried clearing my preferences and restarting photoshop many times in addition to restarting my computer. I also checked to make sure it wasn't being blocked by any firewalls and it wasn't. My opperating system is Windows 7 and I'm using photoshop cs6.
Create a command (macro) to unlock all locked layers and remove the fade effect. I know how to unlock them by using the command LAYULK, selecting the entities on the locked layer. I have been trying to automate the command so I don't have to select entities.
I have seen mention of a utility called xcf2png which can extract layers from a XCF file and write them to a PNG, but it seems there is no Windows version.
Any way of doing this under Windows/DOS? I just want to extract a layer by name and write it to a PNG file with the same name as the layer.
Or even better - searches a XCF file for layers that (say) start with an underscore and exports only those layers to separate named PNG files.
I would like to use the Bash command line to open two images into GIMP, each image on a layer. The code below opens the two images into separate GIMP windows.
>> gimp image1.jpg image2.jpg
How can I open the two images into one GIMP window and two layers?
How I can select all layers using the command line?
I am going to write a piece of lisp which will reset all the lineweights for all layers to default and have started by doing it manually on the command line to see what I need to automate.
To start with I choose -layer then LW then type default and it is here I have a problem. It asks enter name list of layers for lineweight default which is where I need to choose all.
Is there a quick command that lists all current frozen layers in your drawing? I am using Autocad 2012. We recently switched from 2006 in which the quick command YT would show all frozen layers and allow you the option to thaw them. We were using ArchT so Im not sure if that was something associated with that.
I have been given a job of finding or writing a script for PSD cs6 that generates a new file name with predefined file info and sequential number as well as reducing the image size by ?% and introducing the reduction size into the file name. I do not know much about scripting apart from using it .
When I use the Layer Isolate command, then use the Layer Unisolate command, everything seems to work fine, as far as displaying the correct layers again. However, when I go to the Layer Manager, I noticed that all frozen or frozen in current viewport are also turned off.
LAYISO set to OFF (use fade?)
This only happens in a maximized viewport, not in model space.
I get the message "Generating Full Resolution Composite" when I try and save even a relatively average (500MB) file. The hard drive light is lit solid and after about 2-4min, it starts saving the image.
I have tried unchecking "Maximize Compatibility",
I have CS2 - is there a way in CS2 (or CS3) to stop the "Generating Full Resolution Composite" message? I don't care about preview icons/thumbnails at all.
I have a mac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. Since yesterday, when I upload photos to Organizer, the image thumbnails do not generate at a small thumbnail size. Each image has an hour glass on it but the thumbnails of the images do not generate. Thumbnails of images will only generate when I zoom into 1, 2, or 3 images in the oragnizer catalog window. When I want to zoom out to have more thumbnails appear in my catalog window, an hour glass appears again on each thumbnail. This problem only occurs with the images that I have uploaded or edited with PSE since yesterday.
The files are Mpeg4..I just upgraded some PSE 11 catalogs to PSE 12 and all functions and tags imported fine. When I import video only into PSE12 organizer, it will not generate a thumbnail image. I imported the same files into the old catalog using PSE11 and the thumbnails will be created. I have even gone a step further and converted the PSE11 catalog after imports were made, and PSE12 will now have the thumbnails. Eventually PSE11 is going to have to be uninstalled.
"Go to Filter/Artistic/Rough Pastels and load the texture [hard linear grain] from the folder Adobe/Photoshop5/
Goodies/textures located on your harddrive."
