I'm trying to convert some of my digital images into an image that children are able to color in when printed out.
Does anyone know the best way to do this with Photoshop of Paint Shop Pro?
I've been to many tutorial sites but just can't seem to get the right effect.
All I want is for my image to be white with black lines outlining the edges so that my children can be creative and color them in.
Is there a way to modify an image so that it could be used for a coloringbook ?

I'm working with 2 pictures of people. My goal is to replace the face-parts (lips, eyes etc.) with each other.
So person 1 will get the mouth of person 2, and backwards. pretty simple, as all I have to do is match the skin color, and from now - piece of cake. (I actually said piece of cake :P )
So, what I normally use are only 2 tools: Hue/Saturation, and Color Balance.
Problem is - it's still pretty difficult to get perfect results. and beyond that, sometimes I just can't manage to get to even a normal solution. so it's very frustrating.
My question is: What are all the tools that are used to match colors?
(Until now, what I basically did is: take the slider, move left - check if better. if not: move right - check if better, if not: return to center. like this with each slider of the 2 tools I mentioned above. doesn't sound very professional, huh?)
P.S. A reference to even a bunch of tutorials and guides about coloring, would mean THE WORLD to me, as around 60% of my Photoshop are coloring and stuff like that.
I have a piece of fabric that I'm trying to colour with a variety of different light & dark colours (blues, yellows, reds, black, white, grey, etc). The fabric colour that I'm trying to fill is a light grey which shows the texture (shadows, pattern, etc) of the fabric. In the layers pallet I have the fabric layer set to multiply and placed above the colour layer so that the colour comes through.
My problem is that I'm having some difficulty in colouring in the fabric. With lighter colours it's not a problem, but darker colours appear to saturate the selection too much which results in a loss of texture definition - the cracks in the texture appear that they are filled with paint. At the moment I have been playing with a combination of fabric layers set at different blend modes & opacities: multiply, screen & overlay which works to a certain extent but I'm not happy with the realism of the results especially for the darker colours.
With that said I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone have any good experience with colouring selections which maintain colour & texture accuracy (to see what I mean, design a shoe at NikeID.com). You can see how they colour a lace in a variety of light & dark colours accurately (accurate colours while maintaining good texture). More generally, what's the 'best' approach here to blend (or some other method) the full spectrum of light to dark colours?
2. Ideally, what colour should the underlying fabric be? (white, grey, black?) And why? I notice that it's easy to colour a predominately white fabric with light colours but increasingly difficult to colour the selection the darker the target fill is.
I want to specify which colors Photoshop can use and I'm doing that (or at least trying to) by using custom index coloring and the color palette. I am using another person's saved color table. This person saved several shades of grey and when I delete these colors my picture is affected. What is puzzling me is that deleting greys have an impact on my picture even though I am not using any grey. Is there an impact because Photoshop is blending colors within the color table to make the picture. Is grey one of the blended colors? I do not want there to be any blending of colors--I just want Photoshop to use what colors I specify.

Unexpectedly, when I brush over the brown area, instead of the brown changing to white it's changing to a bluish-gray.

My OS is Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro.
How can I color over a black and white image without losing what's originally there (lines, texture, etc)? Usually when I color it's using my own lineart, which I just put as the top layer so it doesn't get in the way.

I’ve been thinking that the grays are probably more limited by the bit depth (65,536 shades of gray for 16-bit vs. 256 shades for 8-bit.) than by whether or not you’re working in ProPhotoRGB or AdobeRGB, but that’s just a guess on my part. Does these two color spaces really better than the other, specifically for BW images and digital printing (I'm printing to an Epson 3880)?
I'm designing a banner for my gaming guild's forums. I have draw the logo/banner and textured it. After Desaturating the image im left with a nice B&W image.
I know of many ways to color the image but everytime that I do the color doesn't match the other colors we have on the forums.
What I want to do is color the image according to a color gradient that we use on the forums.
I would like to have the whitest pixels of the banner be the lightest color from the gradient(#c0a864) and the darkest pixels of the banner be the darkest color from the gradient(#917341). And have GIMP interpolate between those two colors for the other pixels in between the lighest/darkest.
Similar to how a Bumpmap works, only instead of simulating depth based on the range of colors from Black to White, I want it to colorize the banner.

I have used the magic wand tool and selected all then cut and paste, then remove the white area to reveal the new background, but then I'm not able to position the photo where i want it in the new background. I have done a search on youtube and a google search, and have alot of info, but not what I'm looking for. I'm using elements 7. Anybody have a good link for me to watch or a good explanaiton. Anyway, I have a MoPar garage, planned, I have this 3D model, built, I'm merely working on a sign, that is based off I think the 1950's.....This sign, will depict my interests in MoPar, a "Hemi", and the classy girls used back in the day, as part of the sign, AND will be lighted......SO, in 1/87th to the foot scale (Pretty small) its nearly impossible to get a "Hemi" motor, and be able to see that it is a Hemi! SO, my plan, is to take a 1:25th scale Hemi motor, and mount it to a sign pole, that's a pipe, to carry wires for lighting. Then UNDER this sign, will be a girl, that looks as tho, she is holding up a sign that says "Hemi" in the old "MoPar" signage.....UNDER her will be this Hemi Motor.....BUT the lighting is the fun part as the "lamp shades. will be CHROMED Hemi Valve Covers.....With the motor itself, painted orange, with black valve covers.....

Now this girl on the sign, is the issue.............. The girl is actually a blonde.....(don't ask LOL) I need to change her hair color... to red! Problem is? The clothing shes wearing, a short skirt, or short shorts, that are also...........RED.... so, it leaves way to much "red" for the sign......Looks good as is, don't get me wrong, BUT, if I can replace her blonde hair with red hair, to match the "looks" of the image, to be "believable" is GREAT, BUT I want to remove the red from her clothing, and make it Hemi Orange.......... trimmed in black with the silverish looks it already has, blended into the red as you will see...

This whole project is going on a display I'm adding to my layout for looks for when I run trains and to show my other interest.......... old MoPar muscle cars that were Hemi with a garage to repair them, from back in the day......Trying to make all the colors fall into place is my issue!
Using CS5. I am unable to open two files supplied by our client. These two files pre-date CS6, and were made by a branch of our client in Germany. We are in North America. There are many layers of bureaucracy between us and the actual creators in Germany, so communication is impossible.

An attempt at opening the files results in the error, "Could not complete your request because the specified color book cannot be found".However, in this case it is NOT POSSIBLE to "work with the file creator", and it is NOT POSSIBLE to use a different version of PS with the correct books.

I have Color Manager, and I have cluttered up my CS5 installation with every likely-looking color book from Manager in the hopes that one of them would be the right one, but to no avail.So. What do I do? Surely by now Adobe has created some sort of utilty that allows PS to simply tell you WHICH color book is missing so you will know which one to go and get? No?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a very large piece of artwork in my possession. The artwork was originally drawn in high-resolution on a computer, but a true digital copy of the original is not available to the public.
My copy of the artwork is large enough such that the original pixels can just barely be distinguished by the naked eye. I would like to scan it in at extremely high resolution, or take photos of it (multiple photos of various sections may be necessary for enough resolution). Afterwards, I am wondering if Photoshop, some available filter, or other image-processing program would be able to analyze this ultra-resolution scan and reconstruct a perfect copy of the original digital image?
The idea is that if I can see the original pixels with my eye, Photoshop should be able to likewise deduce all the original pixels of the original digital image, and reconstruct it as such via some algorithm, in the original resolution.
I am using InDesign CS5 and Photoshop CS5 and have scanned full color illustrations into Photoshop. I am preparing 7x10 saddle stitch and casebound books with the illustrations which need at a 1/8" bleed area. My problem is the illustrations have key elements right up to the edge of them. I need to add complementary colors to fill in the bleed area around them so I don't lose any of the originals. What is the best way to do this? Also, I need to copy colors from the illustrations and make separate pages of the colors to import into InDesign. What is the best method to do this? The colored pages will be the background with story text on them and reside opposite to the illustrations.Â
