Photoshop :: Cannot Find/see Folders When Using Batch
May 23, 2009
I am using CS3 on a VistaPremium machine. When I try to convert a number of JPGs to TIFs using the batch function I cannot select any folder (nor as source nor destination), when I click the button it only lists Desktop, nothing else. I have tried switching from OS to Adobe dialog (has no effect, but worth the try).
I have a folder structure with 30+ image galleries and the client uploaded original files form their DSLR - causing them to display slowly on their website.  I have an action that changes the images to fit in a 800x800 size, "Save for the Web" over the original image.  This works just fine and if I run it on one directory I'm ok - but I would like to run it on all 30+ directories with a batch command.  I see that I can tell the batch to run on all subs, bit the issue is that it is saving the file in the directory specified int he action.  I know I can override the destination, but that only allows me to select one directory?  I need the images to stay in their original directories?  One more note - I know I can use the Image Processor script, but this is goign to use the Save As command vs the Save for the Web - the differance in file size is significent. ie. in my example file the Save As image at a Quality of 5 is 36K and the Save for the Web at a quality of 45 is 14k - with over 3,000 images to process and store this is a huge differance.
I've recently finished a catalog with 700+ images and I'd like to create an index for future use.  I would like to have an action which allows me to save a general purpose size image for e-mailing to customers as well as a thumbnail size image for photo invoices. This I could do normally by making two seperate actions for the two, but there is an issue with the categories of image types.  Within the catalog the images are of products, and thus are related to a brand. I would like to index the images into a brand based folder, and then into seperate folders for thumbnails and general use.  So essentially, the workflow would be something along the lines of  Create New Folder for Brand/ Category Open Image Resize for General Use Save Image As... in Brand > General Use Resize for Thumbnail Save Image As... in Brand > Thumbnails Close  Repeat for all images in category.  Create New Folder for new Brand Category Open Image .... Etc etc.  Also, is there a way to select a resizing of an image by it's longest/ shortest edge within an action/ droplet? I know Image Processor has this capability but it seems strange there is no ability within an action.
Need to export all my .cdr in several hundred folders, out to .jpg with matching file name and -1 -2 for page listings, but I want to keep the same folder structure but put it in a folder Next my CDR folder.
I'm looking for a script that can convert .ai/.eps to PNG from subfolders or multiple level of subfolders. i found this awesome script posted a year ago here by Larry G. Schneider [URL] however it doesn't get the files from subfolders, just the one folder you specify.
I am not able to find the proper folder in Windows Vista for installing additional actions. Â My folders are as follows: C:ProgramFilesAdobePhotoshop Elements10.0Localesen_US - (at this point there are 4 folders below but not one that says Workflow Panels) Â notice the differences from what the other forum entries state: Â C:ProgramDataAdobePhotoshop Elements10.0Localeen_USWorkflow Panelsactions
I have an external harddrive that I use all the time 24/7. All of a sudden everything that I had uploaded from the hard drive says it's "missing". I didn't move anything.Â
Fired up LR this morning and the folders all have the dreaded grey ? next to them. When I try to reconnect however, the data drive does not appear. Please see screenshot below -- it only has Desktop and subfolders showing for selection. I can't even see D: from within LR.  I have checked the data drive (D:), it is connected and not asleep or anything. I can see all files in it from Windows Explorer without any hiccups or errors. No changes have been made to system or hardware prior to this disconnect in LR occurring.  My original files are all still there, but I can't reconnect the foldres in LR.
I just updated Lightroom to version 3.4 and now I can not find the folders panel in the Develop module. It's in the Library module but not in the Develop module. There is not even a right click option for a folders panel under the Develop module. What happened???
Back with photoshop after some time away and a while back i set up a few macros/batch jobs to add frames to photos and had a few set up depending on the resolution of the photo, portrait/landscape.Â
I know how to create them again - but obviously would rather not! so question is how do i find out what Function keys I mapped the different batches to?
I am using Windows Vista and Lightroom 3.The drive letter for my external hard drive has changed from "J" to "L". I changed my import preset to "L", so I can now import and access new files. However, all of my previous imports are on this elusive "J" drive, which no longer exists. When I open J from the folders list in Lightroom it shows all my folders with the dreaded giant "?". I have tried to synchronize these folders by right clicking to "merge folders". This did not work. I can open all of these files from my back up folder, but I can't do anything with them in Lightroom. Half of my catalog is un usable.
Is there a way to have the organizer folders set up the same was as Windows Explorer? I have a main folder called Family with sub folders for all the years and in each of the subfolders there could be other subfolders. It wouldn't allow me to click on main folder and get all sub folders. I had to open main folder and then it shows all folders and sub folders separately. They are no longer nested.  Along the same lines, I wanted to create an album of Family with all subfolders, but that doesn't work.that is definitely a short coming which is why I never have used the organizer program, but just PSE for editing.Â
I had two 2013 folders, each with about 100 daily folders. The dates were differnt in each annual folder. I dragged one into the other. The folder where the daily folder was dragged from is now empty but those folders do not appear in the recieving folder. All the photos are still in the catalog, but do not show in the folders (left side panel).
I renamed a lot of my photo folders in Explore. Now in LR4, all these folders appears with an ?. I can't work on pictures from these folders - I get the message: File named xxx is offline or missing. It does not sync the parent folder. Nor does it sync the folder it self. If I right clik on a LR4 folder with a ?, and try to locate the folder, I only get the option to merge the identical folders. Is there any way to sort this. I can't restore the old folder names.
I am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.  About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned.  When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.  how I can restore the 'missing' sub folders into the folders panel.
So I have an action that I've been using for the past couple years (?) now that involves opening an image, applying an auto color and auto levels, saving and closing. This has been working for me since probably a couple years ago when I made the action. Yesterday, I was working on a scanning project where I have groups of images in separate folders. I ran the action on the first 2 folders which went fine.
When I got to the 3rd folder all the way up to the last one, PS just loads all the images, does the levels and color then fails to save/close them when done. On one of my folders, it gets through a few of them when it drops the ball and just opens all of them. I'm not sure what's going on as there's no real explanation as to why this is happening.. especially when I've been using this action (and I even made a new action with still no luck). Last week I had about 300 images I had to work with and PS decided to pull this move on me after doing the first 30 of them fine...which is when I first noticed this happening. Â To further add, I set my action to show everything step by step and it seems to happen with select images (in some cases, these select images are entirely what is in the folder). With the select images, it is not doing the actions entirely in order. Typically it does it in this manner:
1-Levels 2-Levels 3-Save 4-Close  What I'm now experiencing is this:
2-Levels 1-Levels
(Skips 3 and 4 since it is starting at 2 and working upward).
How can I unlock my folders so I can copy them and work on them in a separate file? I did "get info" and clicked on the lock on bottom right below sharing and permissions. Then I typed my password, but they revert to locked right away. Â I have 100 images to retouch and don't want to retype my password for each one. This happened once before. I don't want it ever. My computer is not shared, so there's no need.
I just did a clean install of Photoshop CS6 and I notice it created a Presets folder here: Â HardDrive > Users > "Me" > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS6 > Presets
(the only other folder in that location is one named "AutoRecover")  Of course, I also have my normal customized Presets in the following location:  HardDrive > Applications > Adobe Photoshop CS6 > Presets  I have always used/modified my presets in the second location listed - so what is the bare-bones Presets folder for in Application Support? What is that needed?
I would like to save room on my C drive by moving most of the folders associated with CS2 and currently under "My Documents", onto another drive. I looked in the CS2 preferences but cannot find the controls to do that.
I have just started using Photoshop and have uploaded all my photos from my computer's hard-drive, and am displaying them using the 'Folders' view in Organizer. Unfortunately, all the photos are being displayed twice - once within 'Pictures' and once within 'Macintish HD'>'Users'>'Amy'>'Pictures'. I would like the photos to appear only once so that I know which set I am working from.Â
Can't believe it makes one iota of difference but am using WIN7.Is there any reason not to delete old folders in Lightroom and PS when I upgrade or install later versions. Â Example:Â I have 5 folders of updates (plus 4.2)Â in my Adobe folder for Lightroom starting with 3.4 up thru 4.1.Can I just delete everything except 4.2? I have PS CS6. Can I delete the CS5 folder?
This after an install of CS6. They do appear in the flyout menus, but every folder inside the preset folder are apparently empty. I open the install file and found all the preset files there but for some reason they didn't load. ???
Something in my Photoshop cs 6 seems to have changed ... only allows me to save photos to "pictures" and not specific folders in pictures except for recent favorites.
