Photoshop :: Actions Stopped Working After Downloading More Actions
Aug 31, 2004I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.

Nov 24, 2013My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

Now, in past, when I saved actions CS2 would "remember" where this folder was, making real easy to save.
Lately, it keep defaulting to save as in the app folder-- even though I did navigate to my special area on last save as.

Apr 23, 2012I am a screen printer and us photoshop regularly and that feature is a ver important part of my serparations when I make my film. I am also sue that thousands of screen printer also use this feature. Why can not such a simple already installed feature not be kept? Maybe off set printer do not need this but screen printers need this feature, we must be able to adjust our DPI , dot style and angle.

A bit of confusion over the fact that Bridge is now independent from PS.The first thing I noticed is that the workspace is really clean, almost elegant. It it a joy to my eyes to use. Next I went to my favorite tool about which I have had severe criticism in CS6, the crop tool.

It now works far better than CS6. You fixed the major objections I had. The only thing to catch may attention is that there is a switch to not center the crop. It doesn't work. Or maybe I don't understand what it actually means. Also, the additional crop proportions I added to CS6 did not transfer to CC.

But then I saw there is no Close or Minimize button! Not being able to minimize is a problem as I frequently have 2 or more windows running.
Photoshop :: CS4 Not Recognizing Added Memory
Nov 7, 2008I am running CS4 on a Windows Vista Platform. I have increased my RAM from 2GB to 4GB (max for 32 bit system). I've checked my computer and the memory is 'registered' and recognized by the system. Everything seems to be fine but when I go to CS4 Preferences it still lists my available RAM as 1645 (old 2GB figure). How do I get Adobe to see my new memory?

Apr 10, 2009I just purchased a font (Boycot) and added it to my "fonts" folder. It works great in MS Word, but doesn't seem to work in Photoshop. I have CS2 and I'm using a PC. When I select the text tool and then the "Boycot" font, I see only blank spaces (if that) and then I get an error message. The two messeges are: "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialised." or "Could not complete your request because of a program error." Other font's work fine and as I said... the "Boycot" font works in other programs like MS Word.

Photoshop :: Distortion Added When Opening Certain JPG Files
May 24, 2013When opening certain JPG images in Photoshop, they look different (worse) than when opened in any other application. They get some kind of additional distortion / artifacts.

If you look closely at the right side of the following screenshot, you will notice that the edges between the color areas are kinda jagged (less smooth) in comparison to the left one. When zooming in, it appears that every second pixel line at the borders of the red areas is distorted in horizontal direction:
left side: image opened with JPEG View, Windows Photo Viewer, Google Chrome or Paint Shop Pro X5 right side: image opened with Photoshop CS6 (also tested on an old CS4 version - same result)

The image retains those distortions when saved from Photoshop. No matter if saved loss less (PNG) or not (JPG). However, when opening the image with an image viewer (i.e. JPEG View), taking a screenshot and pasting it into Photoshop, there are no such artifacts. Even when then saved as JPG and reopened, there is still no distortion.

Therefore the issue must be related to the format the original files are saved in. According to the metadata stored within the JPG the image was edited with "Adobe Lightroom".

Mar 9, 2012The problem I've been noticing for a while now has been especially in OSX, now also on windows 7 is that whenever I have a PSD file open and go SAVE AS as a JPG alot of times I tend to do a batch from a single psd with different version.. ( name01.jpg   name02.jpg   name03.jpg    etc.)

What I came across is that sometimes I tend to forget to select JPEG from the drop down menu (because the window always displays Photoshop File as default).
What happens is that Photoshop File is in the drop down menu and I name my file Name01.jpg it saves it as a Photoshop File with a .jpg extension. which confuses everyone that tries to open that file because they cant and its huge..

I remember on windows XP when this happened photoshop was kind enough to name my file Name01.jpg.psd which made the file stand out and approprietly named.

Aside from the whole .PSDÂ .JPG issue with this not adding the appropriate extension automatically, this also causes problems when I name a file Name01 photoshop leaves it at that and does not add any extention to it so it becomes an orphan file on foreign computers.. It doesn't happen often but when it does I want to punch my computer in the face.

Jun 27, 2008Since I've upgraded to CS3, I've had this problem. Every document I design in Photoshop will look perfect but will add a blue tint to the canvas when converted into a PDF. It will do this whether the file is a PSD or JPG. It doesn't matter if it's text only or text and a photo. It only puts the blue tint on the actual PS canvas area, so if the canvas size is 5x7 and the document size I choose for the PDF is 8.5x11 then the blue tint is only on the 5x7, not the outer edges of the PDF - it is white.
