Photoshop :: CS6 Extended Crashing When Using Oil Paint Filter
May 14, 2013
I replaced a standard hard drive with a new SSD drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7 and all of my programs. I made sure all Win 7 updates, program updates and drivers are current. The good news is Photoshop CS6 Extended loads much faster. The bad news is now Photoshop crashes when I attempt to use the Oil Paint filter. The only hardware change is the new SSD, I haven't changed any video devices and I never had any issues running the Oil Paint filter before I swapped out hard drives and did the software reinstallations. I've tried the OpenGL Drawing Mode in basic, normal and advanced, and still get crashes when attempting to use oil paint.
System info:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1

5-10 minutes after I start working in cs4 it crahes giving this message:The instruction at “0x696355eb” referenced memory at “0x00000068”. The memory could not be “read”.and gives me the option to terminate or debug. Debugging freezes everything up. I have resorted to using cs3 because of this.
Mac Pro; Mac OS 10.7.3; 16GB ram; ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB..Just installed CS6 Extended a couple of days ago, after deinstalling the beta and verifying permissions.
I seem to be crashing a lot - I'd say half a dozen times over the past day or so. I make a path (e.g. a simple rectangle), 3D layer from that path, then start to work with extrusion and revolving the extrusion. All of a sudden, the object will disappear from view, though its representation still appears on the layer thumbnail. I'll click different layers, trying to get the object back, then the program crashes. I've sent all the reports to Adobe.
The beta rarely crashed on me at all; but this release seems very unstable. I'm not able to get anything done in the 3D module without eventually crashing per the above.
I purchased CS5.5 extended about 3 weeks ago and all was working fine. Just yesterday Photoshop started crashing whenever I try to open files. I've deleted preferences several times, validated my fonts, restarted my Mac, etc. all to no avail. Photoshop has become useless to me and it's part of how I make my living. InDesign seems to work OK but I haven't tried Illustrator yet.
Here is last night's crash report (half the time it crashes with no report).
Been working on a project moving files from Light room 4 to Photoshop CS6 for final edits and experiencing recent files crashing PS CS6 when using the smart sharpen filter. I've processed hundreds of files in CS6 and never had this issue till lately. All other filters work fine, including other sharpen options, it's just the smart sharpen interface.
I over-installed/re-installed Photoshop CS6 thinking a driver might have corrupted for that filter, then installed all available upgrades but the problem persists. I can't figure it out, and it's a problem - I use smart sharpen a lot for final output. Am I overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to just uninstall PS CS6 and do a total re-install or is there another option?
I have a layer which is white with a clouds render but when I want to go the next step I cannot access the twirl tool or the zig zag tool. I notice this is the only filter I cannot access.why or what I should do to be able to access it for my project.
I use extended data on 2d entity in AutoCAD 2010. In a lisp program, I have filtered with extended data selection. Filters work with entity like: line, polyline and Mline but with insert entity it don’t work.
I'm having problems with the oil paint filter in CS6. It runs and looks fine while in the filter, but once I commit the changes and go back to Photoshop, there are one to three bright squares of fluorescent green (sometimes pink, I think) overlaying parts of my image. I have a Radeon 7450 graphics card and Windows 8. Have drawing mode set to basic because of the flickering issues.
when i open the filter, 10-15 seconds later the screen goes black then white and an error message pops up saying that the nvidea "driver crashed and has recovered."
I cant turn off openGl because i won't be able to sue that filter.
I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a PC. When I tried to apply the oil paint filter, I got an error message saying
"The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
The CS6 oil paint filter is not working. The error is: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
I have the latest graphics driver software. I have the latest update for CS6. I have followed various community support recommendations to no avail. In the Advanced Graphics Processor settings (preference, performance) only "Basic" is available and I can't select (grayed out) "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate computation" and can't select "use OpenCL".
My System: Windows 7 (64 bit), HP Pavilion dv6-3250us Notebook with Intel(R) High-Definition Graphics Driver. Here is system information (from CS6):
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64 Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1 System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:5, Stepping:5 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, HyperThreading [code]...
I am trying to make a flyer and every 2 minutes PSP keeps crashing. Is there a way to get a log from it so I can post it here? I am using text and when i click on the right hand side to double click (for that the text sticks), it crashes. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I am getting. I'm running Win7 64bit, photoshop cs6 (also 64bit), have an i7 2600 and 16GB of RAM and an ati 5870 card running the latest drivers (12.8)
So, the operation could not be completed whenever I try to run the oil paint plugin and when I try to use the iris blur, my canvas goes blank. If I pull it out of docked mode and put it in a window, it's still blank until I move the window about and I can see my image, but as soon as I stop moving the window around, it's blank again.
I'm using the oil paint filter and for some reason it doesn't turn out when I use it. It doesn't seem to be an issue for very very small sized images, if I make the photo smaller it will work just fine. However, for any regular sized images I get this result below. I just got a new computer, so i'm not sure what the issue could be?
I'm running CS6 on Windows7, Intel HD Graphics P4000 with driver updated. I have used the oil paint filter successfully in the past. Now when I try to use it, the filter window comes up, and it notes that the image I want to work on is at 25% size, but it remains blank -- the image itself never shows.
Currently I am running PhotoShop extended CS5, 64bit. in which i have my fovorite plugins (Topaz, Nik and OneOne) running perfectly.
I have upgraded to Adobe Creative Cloud and installed PhotoShop extended CS6 using Adobe Application Manager as recommended. It didn't ask me if I wanted to upgrade or do a new install for PhotoShop. So now I CS6 running with no Plug-ins. I need my plugins! LOL.
I tried pointing to additional plugins in the CS6 preference to the CS5 plugin folder. Upon Launch it gave me a whole slew of error messages saying something cant load or launch C+ runtime error or what not. It does open up, but it only gives access to Nik and Topaz. OnOne doesn't show up under filters or extensions.
So, what are my options?
Just copy the plugins from CS5 to CS6?
I dont't want to reinstall all the plugins to CS6 if I don't have to as I've auto updated them over time to current versions online, so only have installation files for my original purchases.
Trying to apply the oil paint filter to a 45" x 30", 300dpi, 16-bit image I an error dialog that says: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
The menus all become gray and the software freezes so I can't quit, but Force Quit does not show "not responding".
OK, my friend has an iPhone and he has a photo program that let's you select a color (such as red) and take a photo. When it comes out, everything that is normally red will be red, but anything else will be gray (b&w)
Is there a plugin that will allow you to do a post-processing to a photo like this?
If I have a picture that is partly distorted by a color filter, is there any way I can negate the color distortion? For example, if I had a picture like this:
where I can use the sky or grass or bricks as reference points, how would I cancel out the color and make the whole picture look normal?
I have a picture that was sent to me from someone to remove the effects of a filter. I can plainly see an area in the picture where the colors are not natural to the picture. My question is how do I remove the extra colors without messing up what was behind them? It appears someone used a blur or smudge filter in this one area.
filter to apply that gives a watercolor effect such as can be made to work in PS Elements. I really like the way Elements handles it but would prefer to do it all in PSP. Are there such things a plugins for PSP that would work like that?
What is a VERY good noise filter plugin for X4 or X5? In the past few months I demo's Adobe's Lightroom which had an excellent noise removal capability.. AMAZING really. The problem with Lightroom was NO support for PNG files.. and I have 10's of thousands of them. Many of my images need such a noise filter, and the stock one isn't so hot.
how the user filter dialogue works? I am sent to a web page that refers to user filter.I did a search on the forums but came up emptyhanded...I forgot to mention that I am using PaintShop Pro X5, but I believe this filter dialogue has been around as early as PaintShop Pro 8, which I also own.
