Photoshop :: CS2 FREEZES ON OPEN
Aug 31, 2008
I have a 500 GB HD, 2 GB RAM, under Windows XP Professional.
When I opened 2-3 images in Photoshop CS2, and worked on one, the open screen would suddenly appear again, and was impossible to get rid of without stopping the program.
So I entered Control Panel and "repaired" CS2 with the installation disk. Same trouble still occurred. In addition, now when I open the OPEN window, and try to browse, nothing comes up for >120 seconds.
I am out of business and have to use PSE6. Would I benefit from uninstalling and reinstalling CS2, or does this sound like a Windows XP issue? My computer seems OK otherwise, but is not a speed demon.

Photoshop is unusable for me. I was running CS6 but it kept freezing when I tried to open a file. I uninstalled and installed CC -- same problem. I checked the preferences to see if there was a setting for an Adobe file dialog and it froze again.
I suspect it has something to do with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 but I don't have this problem in other Adobe apps. Ran Disk Utility, verified permissions, verified disk -- everything checks out. Not sure what to do.

we have a new lab in our district with Autocad 2010 64-bit version installed on HP Compaq 8022 Elite SFF computers. There is 4 GB memory on the computers and a Quadro 400 graphics card. Autocad and Windows 7 64-bit have both been updated to the latest versions. The Autocad application locks up almost every time someone chooses the new document icon, or when they try to 'save as'. Sometimes when they choose to open a new document first, close that dialogue box, then try to choose the new document icon it works ok. But, for the most part, the application is unuesable. Some possible solutions we found online that don't work are to not use the Aero themes (we don't) and to not use Norton AV (we don't).

First of all a little bit about the hardware/software:
- Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
- ACAD2011 with 1.1
- Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS (not a supported graphic card from what I know)
- Intel i5-750
Since we got that out of the way let's get to it.
A week ago I was told that a lot of times the PC's freeze when you try to "Save", "Save as" or "Open" a file (we open/save on a network drive). If that happens we have to restart the PC and hope it doesn't happen again, but since this happens quite a lot (over the course of four days about 27 times on 7 PC's) I tried to fix this.
I installed the patch, updated the drivers for the graphic card and reinstalled NET Framework 4. The problem didn't occur as often but it still happened sometimes.

Photoshop CS3 freezes after making an adjustment layer using levels. A description of where the picture is located on the computer (usually only seen as a mouse over) appears and is also frozen.
I am unable to save the file and have to end the program and lose everything if it is not already saved. I have Windows XP with service Pack III. I do not have this problem with CS2. I would appreciate any ideas.

I'm having issues with the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS6. Immediately after attempting to open an existing file or create a new one, Photoshop completely freezes, with no error messages/dialogues, and I end up having to force close it from Windows Task Manager. This happens every single time. I had this same issue with the beta, and it continues into the full release. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it multiple times to no avail.
I haven't had this issue with previous versions of Photoshop (CS 5 & 5.5), and the 32-bit version of CS6 runs fine. However, for obvious reasons, I would prefer to use the 64-bit version of the software to take full advantage of what my machine is capable of.I'm running this on a HP Envy 17 laptop, with an Intel Core i7 processor (1st-gen), an AMD Radeon HD 5850M graphics card, and 8GB of RAM.

I'm experiencing frequent freezes on PS (CS6, 13.0 x64) when first using it each day. Rest of the time it seems to run very quick and beautifully. But most days I'm finding in the first five or ten minutes of using it, PS just stops. It then takes perhaps five minutes to do anything and if I have used the history brush or resized or anything while it was still fuctioning ok, then there is a frantic catch-up by PShop while it runs through all those unseen movements in one go.
Oddly, it won't allow any selections or painting or anything but it does seem to allow you to still look at pull-down menus (even though they don't respond if selected). So, an unusual type of freeze, not a total lock-out, just rendering it useless. Quitting (when it allows me to) seems to revive it and then I seem to be able to work ok.
Am on a new iMac with 3 TB Fusion drive - just wondering (worried) it is something to do with that perhaps? All my other CS apps working ok (I use Indesign constantly).

first here is my system:
Dell Precision 390
Intel Core 2 Duo
Photoshop CS3 10.0.1, Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 (CS3 Suite)
Windows XP
2 GB of RAM
Roughly 8 GB free HD space
Not sure on video card (how can i check?)
ok, here is my problem:
when i go to File->Open (or Ctrl+O), the Open dialog box opens momentarily (blink an you miss it) and then Photoshop and/or Illustrator freezes. the only way to close it is through Windows Task Manager->End Task.
there is no official error message, Photoshop/Illustrator just simply freezes.
however, and heres the kicker, when i open the files directly from the folder (Explorer) they open fine, i can work seamlessly, no problem. it only occurs when i open from the program itself. i do not know if the other suite programs (Flash, InDesign etc.) have the same problem as i dont use them much.

experiencing urecoverable crashes (Windows freezes, have to restart the pc) when performing various actions. It seems to be happening only when something is going on in/with the document window, or when any modifications are made to the opened image. Using menus and other interface elements doesnt seem to cause any problems. The crashes usually happen a few minutes after the software has loaded.
Specifications:
Intel Core2Duo 3,16GHz
2GB RAM

WindowsXP SP2

I recently installed Photoshop CS4 extended, and I'm having some problems with Preferences in the edit menu. When I attempt to go to either "performance" or "general" under preferences, it freezes, then I get an error report and it shuts down.
Everything else has been working fine so far, though, and it's a wonderful program. My computer is a little older, and is on xp.

I have been able to successfully INSTALL Adobe Photoshop CS3: Extended multiple times, however I have yet to actually successfully RUN the application. After installation, when I try to open the program, a window appears with "Adobe Photoshop CS3" at the top and it is simply a large grey box with nothing inside of it. My mouse cursor turns into an hourglass and that's it... I left it there for an hour and a half once just to see what it would do and it simply continued in an endless loop of nothingness.
I have a custom-built computer with an AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition, 2x2GB of OCZ 1066mhz Reaper DDR2, a Gigabyte motherboard with the GX790 chipset (SB750 southbridge), and a 2x1 Terabyte RAID 1 array.
It's running in a brand spanking new Windows XP Professional installation with Service Pack 3.
I have tried the following:
1) Uninstalling and reinstalling (same result)
2) Uninstalling all Adobe programs, Running Adobe Clean Script at level 4, running Windows Install Cleanup to remove any remaining Adobe remnants, and reinstalled. (same result)
3) Doing everything in step 2 again, then copying the CD to my hard drive, and installing from my hard drive. (same result)
4) Doing everything in step 2 again, then making a new administrative user account and reinstalling (same result...)
The adobe tech support guys I encountered came up with some pretty crazy (and flat stupid) explanations for my problems.
One guy claimed that my Serial was for CS1 and that somehow I'd gotten a CS1 disk that just happened to come in a CS3 box, with a CS3 disk label, which just happens to say "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended" after you install it...

My adobe cs4 collection (photoshop, indesign, etc) freezes upon starting. I've got fresh system install - windows 7 (x64), new ssd drive - corsair force, new motherboard and cpu - intel i5, 16gb ram ddr3.
Every time i open psd or indesign document i have to wait about 15seconds before the popup screen opens and the software launches. Same with acrobat AND with Office 2010 (wtf?). On my previous setup it started faster. I've tried unlockin Win7 options for best SSD performance, and reinstalled the graphics driver (geforce gt 220). This is a cs3 + upgrade to cs4. Everything else seems to work smoothly, system starts up very fast and such.
