I'm sending a PS document to a printer and to avoid the problem of the printer possibly not having a specific font I'd like to turn all my text layers into shape layers.
Is there a way to turn all text layers in a single document into shape layers easily? I know I can do it individually layer by layer but that just seems too tedious.
I do not want to rastorize the text, just turn it into vector shapes.
Why is it that if I want to add a shape to my drawing (line, box, circle, etc.) it insists on putting it on a separate layer? Why can't I put it on the layer I'm currently working with?

IS there a command that would "mirror" the layers - thus changing the orientation of the overall image?
I come from a PSP background, still a bit new to PS, and didn't see a tool for mirroring like PSP has.
I messed up! I have like 70 different layers..each with a shape on it. I want all the shapes to be the same colour, but I dont want to do it manually and I want to keep te shapes.. Is there any way to do it? Besides layer style colour overlay...

I am trying to get a white layer with see through writing which reveals the background image underneath. (Almost like I have put a stencil over a photograph). I have discovered this is called a clipping mask.
However, I am having difficulty using a clipping mask over multiple text layers. It seems to only do it to one layer directly beneath. I do not want to merge the text layers as I want to mess about with the design a fair bit.
I am new to PS CS5, when I create any vector shape using pen tool or rectangular tool etc the shape does not appear in my layers panel.
Is this normal behavior? If it is, how do i reselect a shape after I've made it?
Whenever I create a shape on my canvas, or I use a shape as a clipping mask, the entire canvas blacks out and I can't see anything until I click off to the side, in the workspace, so none of my layers are selected. This has happened when I have dropped items onto my canvas and am moving them around, as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Photoshop CS6 and notice every time i add a new layer there is pixelated lines and decayed shapes that show up. This makes it impossible to work. I have a Nvidia Quadro 6000 running in combination with a tesla c2075 there was not any problem i could see with other CS6 programs and it was working fine with CS5.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make extrusions to an image. I am new to Illustrator and have read that .ai files are the only ones that you can extrude in AE. However when I bring in an .ai file and select create shape from vector layer, a grey square covers the shape. I am assuming that it is a transparancy issue and it is just filling in the size of the .ai project. I could be wrong though.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI often will borrow groups and layers from one document and drag them into a new or a different PS document to borrow the layers and formatting so I am not starting over from scratch with a design that I just need to re-work into a different size.
But in the last two weeks, when I drag the layers over, they start mysteriously changing into other layers that I did not drag over. What is causing this bug? It wasn't there before as I have performed this action many times in various projects. I am using PS CS6 on a Mac Book Pro.
Is there a way to get text to take the form of a shape... fitting inside the shape. Like inside a diamond so both ends are narrow. Without upsetting the perspective. Or like the harley davidson logo?

I would like to increase the font size in many text layers at a time by selecting them in the layers panel. The font increases, but the text boxes don't expand to fit the increased size text. So I am having to make each box bigger manually. Is there a way to have the boxes expand to fit bigger text automatically through the layers panel?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a logo consisting of a bunch of simple shapes which are all individual layers. All of these layers are on top of a transparent canvas. I'm not sure if canvas is the right word, but basically what I mean is that I launched GIMP and made a new image that's 512x512 filled with transparency, and by default that became a layer titled background which I consider to be the canvas of my entire Image.
I can't seem to draw on new layers anymore. I've been trying to make new layers filled with transparency and draw on them with the free select tool, ensuring that the opacity is not 0 and that the layer is selected, but its drawing on the background layer rather than the layer I made to draw on. So now when I try to adjust the position of the layer, the shape I drew stays in the same spot because its not part of the layer.

Simple question:
am trying to edit a text layer but i am unable to open the text box to change text.
It creates a new text layer everytime i click on the layer.
Looking for a simple procedure to create text and shapes in CS4 starting with a blank document. Text added fine. After dragging with the rectangle tool, the result sometimes disappears, or not; in any case it does not print. When I add a line by dragging, the rectangle disappears. I must be missing something about layers, but have tried all the obvious layers commands and they do not seem to help.

I use the eyedropper to select red on the pallette, for example, and the red box is framed. But the color sample on both the menu bar and the tool bar sets to gray. Is there a swicth somewhere that inhibits red, green, blue, etc.?
I even reinstalled the program, thinking I had a glitch--no change. The color selection had always worked in the past.

Even if i "discard text information" from layer..and then save it as .xcf it doesnt work! Same layers appear as text layers when i open that .xcf Its not a big deal but it really slows me down when im working with layers..

I am new to Illustrator and am currently attempting to learn it. I am creating a logo that has text and has a shape that goes through the text to make the text appear as if it has claw marks in it.
I have two layers. The layer with the shape "claw" marks, and a layer with the text. The shape layer is currently above and the text layer is currently below. If I select both layers and click on Make Clipping Mask it has the text displayed within the little claw marks, how do I reverse that? Because when I try to change the order of the layers it doesn't clip anything?
How do I take like SHARKS text and place it inside the shape of a shark outline so the text takes the shape of the shark shape then I remove the outline shape and the letters stay the shape of the shark outline.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI drew something up on a sheet of paper, scanned it, then traced it's bitmap as line art. I then proceded to edit the vectors to recover all the detail I lost with the tracing. It took forever!
Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.
What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?
If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.
I am creating a layered marine chart with reference points. I've imported the chart and am creating text layers with a reference number in them.
I have about 700 of these to add - a daunting task - but it's for a NZ coastguard unit, so is worthwhile.
The idea is to have a layer with all our reference points on it, so when a chart is updated, we can just import the chart; add back the reference points layers and print it out.
(Why? NZ baynames, danger spots etc usually have 2 names; an english name and a maori name - sometimes we have to cross reference when on the water to find the correct place).
Is creating text layers the best way of doing this?
Is there any way of increasing the size of all the text - instead of having to edit 700 text layers?
is there any way to add shapes, in the "basic shapes" bar?
or maybe in any other locations.
I use a lot of predefines shapes, that are saved in various files. i wanna make a way to directly import these shapes, whithout open files and copy/paste the dsired shapes.
