Photoshop :: Adobe Software - Backup Result In Disorder Of Layers
Aug 11, 2012
I have a big problem in my adobe software (Photoshop and Fireworks by-example). When, for example, I backup my project psd, short layers that I did well at the opening of what I save almost all my layers are disorders .
I have purchased Adobe Creative Suite CS6 for Windows and am using it on my desktop and notebook computer. This is the maximum number of computers I'm allowed to use it on. Since the software has an activation and deactivation feature and requires an internet connection, I assume that an activation on a third computer would not be possible. So I really have to make sure that I don't lose any of the two systems because I'd also lose one activation with it. (Or I'd need to mess with the support which I'm trying to avoid.)
Today I've noticed that my notebook shows strange error messages. Applications were missing or would not start due to wrong reasons (not compatible with x64, although this was specificly the x64 version, and it's always worked fine). I ran a chkdsk and it fixed tons or filesystem errors. Now other programs are missing and I can't even install any new ones... Unfortunately I noticed the error while trying to perform a Windows system backup. That stupid thing deleted the old version and messed up the new one. So I haven't got any right now. There's also no system restore points, so I can only reinstall the system.
What files or registry keys do I need to copy to a safe location to backup Adobe's software activation on my computer? Would it be possible to restore such a backup on the very same hardware (maybe another disk drive in case the previous one died) but with a freshly installed Windows (same version)? I've learned several times that I cannot rely on a complete system image backup. The only backups that have ever worked 100% reliably for me were those where I copied files to a known location in a known format. But that doesn't include the activation I guess. I'd like to know where it is located so that I can perform a decent backup of it.

Don't worry, no user data is lost, but I'm kind of lucky that Photoshop still started and I could deactivate it before that wouldn't work anymore as well. (Computer systems often die slowly...)
So my question is: What files or registry keys do I need to copy to a safe location to backup Adobe's software activation on my computer? when i open adobe photoshop CS3 and flash CS3 a box appears saying " licensing for this product has expired..i have tried all the solutions and are at to "reinstalling" i don't have the disc or the code.all i am worried about is getting a copy of my swatches/palettes and brushes. Is there any way of saving the swatches and/or brushes? or if i were to install the CS5 version of photoshop would it automatically convert my settings, (swatches and brushes) to the newer version?
When i back-up the catalogue, i assumed the backup would be mede of al the tags added to photo's. When i check the catalogue-files, i see a whole lot of jpg-files. My actual photo-collection contains jpg-, raw an avi-files.
I have a habit of making a copy of all my photofiles, but now it seems double
Question: Does de backup-function of photoshop elements 11 actually make a backup of tags and photo's?
One would think that Adobe would be smart enough to understand a basic concept- that those who are trying to read Adobe's instructions DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THEIR PRODUCT. That is why folks read instructions, right? Because they do not understand how to use the product.
If I was the CEO of Adobe I'd be firing the incompetent people who are in charge of explaining how Adobe's Photoshop CS 4 works.
Part of this is due to geeks who are better left to programming than writing instructions.
When personal computers were first introduced- it was geek heaven. The idea that using a computer to accomplish something relating to one's work took a back seat to geeks who thought it was fun and interesting to have complicated programs- most of which few in the real world understood- or frankly- wanted to take the time to learn.
So it is with Photoshop. As a photographer I have zero interest in wanting to suffer through hours- days even- of trying to figure out how to use a given component within Photoshop. My time is worth something. I have work to get done, and the last thing I want to suffer through is a bunch of geek nonsense in trying to get a given task competed in PS.
Does adobe even bother to define the geek terms it uses within PS? No.
Does adobe even try to write instructions that are easy to follow? No. That is why aftermarket books are written to try and help people decipher PS. That is probably also why this blog exists.
For the considerable money I've spent for ADOBE products, I expect better. Much, much better.
So that's the overview.
What I wanted to do was capture the winter sun, on the Winter solstice- in Alaska- as the sun moved across the horizon- form sunrise to sunset. This was a span of 3.5 hours. I took about 18 shots that I'd like to try and merge into one shot where the picture would be a composite of where the sun was in the sky- about every 15 minutes. This would then show the movement of the sun across the sky on the shortest day of the year.
All shots were taken from a tripod- set up in a fixed location for the duration of the shoot.
Dealing with -15 temperatures for about four hours was preferable to dealing with PS CS-4 and trying to make this composition.
hiya! so my master media library is running off a 1 tb outboard drive to lightroom and i have a 2 tb outboard drive as a master backup, i drag new media over to the drive through finder on a mac- will this be able to connect to lightroom's catalog in case of the primary drives eventual failure? is there a better way?
I had Photoshop CS6 installed and working on my Mac using Adobe Creative Cloud. However now a dialog appears that says "Help Improve Adobe's Product". Regardless if I approve this dialog or not Adobe Photoshop starts up with every menu option grayed and I can do nothing. I have to force quit the application. At this point it is 100% unusable.
I've googled it and seen others with a similar issue but no solutions found. I have OSX 10.8.3.
Others with similar issues. URL....No real solution other than don't use Mac Keeper (which I do not) URL....
I really like how this picture came out and I was wondering how I could get a similar aspect? I know you can play with curves, levels, and saturation but I'm sure its more then that ..
Product: CS4 64 bit: Adobe Output Module-Adobe updater downloads 2 updates 75.9mb (Camera Raw 5.3). After download and permission to continue under user account control, I receive popup menu advising me that Installation Incomplete, close Adobe Bridge - 3 choices, which always fail. My Adobe CS4 and Bridge are not open. I tried this several times with the same result.I downloaded the zip file, saved, unzip, and still get the same notice - close Bridge.
In CS3 I use a Dust & Scratches filter on a layer in a high resolution (3200+ppi) 16bpc image, then traditionally change the layer blend mode to Difference, make a duplicate of a channel which has the clearest information of where the filtered changes were made, and use levels to increase the contrast on a copy of that channel. Occasionally I get this result though - the Levels adjustment preview shows spots clearly, but clicking OK results in something very different from the preview. This only seems to happen occasionally.and result looks like this:
As the purpose of the channel is to make a mask, the result isn't as good as I'd like. I assumed that the problem might have been the grey starting colour of the channel, so I pushed the 0 up to 9 in an attempt to get a uniform K value of 100% on the darkest areas, and then ran a second Levels adjustment to make the white spots brighter. The second levels adjustment resulted in pretty much the same result as above, again, not what was shown in the preview. I also assumed that it may be down to numbers and that levels is occasionally too limited to deal with all the shades of grey on a 16 bit channel. Probably wrongly as this normally works exactly as required.
This only happens occasionally, and isn't that big a deal - I can quite happily go and use a Curve instead. I'm just wondering why the preview in the adjustment window is different from the actual result. The fact that it only happens on some of my images is what concerns me - purging all beforehand does not make any difference.how to get accurate results in the preview? Is the preview using a different method to show the results? Unfortunately I won't have a copy of CS6 to try this on until a couple of weeks from now, so not sure the best way for someone to try and replicate it on newer versions.
Is there a way to see the end result of a pattern as you are creating it?
That is a way so you can see the pattern tiled all over the document. So say you are working on a 100x100 area to be the pattern in layer 1, but you want to see this replicated over an entire document. Maybe you have an overall image/document that is 800x600 say, and you work on the 100x100 area in a layer. Anyway some way of doing is so that when you make a small change in the 100x100 area of the layer you're using for the patter creation, you immdiately see the replicated result of the 800x600 area.
I'm using CS5 and beginning to use HDR. When I merge to HDR pro and make adjustments to images the preview window is extremely different from the final image. I'm merging original camera raw images from a Nikon D200. Workflow in ACR is set to 16bit. Output from HDR pro is also 16bit. I adjust using the preview window, but after final processing the resulting image is grossly different, much more saturated and more vibrant among other differences.
Scaling on a pattern layer sucks. When you scale a layer up or down (anything other than 100%), the end result is blurry and ugly. Here's an example: URL....
I would love to be able to choose the scaling algorithm used. In this case, the raster layer was scaled down with a bicubic algorithm, which worked fine for it.
I've recently tried using the Photoshop HDR feature. I have selected three different exposures in Lightroom and chose to merge them as an HDR image. All went well until the preview. I've found some settings that work really well. I've decided to go for the 16-bit path, not using Lightroom's 32-bit image capability, and let Photoshop do the tone mapping for now.
Here's what my preview image and the entire tool window looks like: [URL]
And this is the result one step later. It's totally over-saturated and has other merge errors. It basically doesn't even look similar to the preview. What's the preview good for if it doesn't show what I'll get? How should I decide what setting works good if I can't see it? [URL]
This is Photoshop CS6 x64 on Windows 7 SP1. The source images are 16-bit TIFFs as they were exported by Lightroom.
I was scanning some old family photos and came across one that isn't an original photo but looks like it was printed on one of those little remembrance cards that are passed out at funerals and it is made up of little dots. The scanned image ends up with a kind of plaid pattern on it because of the dots:
I took a picture with my cell phone and it looks better.I have never tackled anything like this before and was wondering if there is a standard way of improving this kind of picture to look more like a photo.
I cut with the pen tool. The path was not complicated and had many straight edges to follow, so I didn't have to click many points. After I completed and closed the path, I sel the icon, load path as selection and then the path became this bizarre zig zag, almost electric marching ants effect. Then I deselected and there were like hundreds of anchor points at every centimeter or so. The edges of the selected area however were normal and smooth.
It looks like the same 2.3mb file that the update program is trying to download. Once the update is started it just keeps trying to download that file until I cancel the update.
Save For Web offers 5 resampling algorithms (the same 5 as in Image Size, ignoring "Bicubic Automatic", of course) for when the output is being resized.
All choices except "Nearest Neighbor" output an identical image (which is different to all results of Image Size). Although the "Bilinear" output contains the same pixels as the output of the 3 bicubics, its file size is slightly different than their shared file size.
One thing I don't like when you do a search and some results are included in stacks of version sets, it that you are shown the best matches with the non matches indicated by a special icon. Then you can't have the option to 'select only best matches'.
An example : Suppose you usually shoot raw and keep only the best edited jpeg in a version set together with the original raw. You want to delete the original raws when there is an edited jpeg in the version set. You can perfectly use the search by details for files in a version set and filename with the raw suffix.
How can you select only the 'best matches' in the result of the search ? Unless there is a way to do that easily, I would like to introduce a feature request to add 'show only best matches in stacks/version sets' in the option menu of the result of the search.
You could : - select all the results and expand all stacks and version sets - assign a temporary keyword like 'IsInVersionSet' to all - do a new search by detail for 'IsInVersionSet' and filename ends with raw suffix - Select all and delete - remove the temporary keyword.
That would work for version sets with only one original and one edited jpeg, not for multiple files in a stack or version sets, the info about stacks or sets would be lost. The only method I have found to do the selection and deletion with keeping stacks and version sets is:
- create a catalog copy (copy of the whole catalog folder) - in the new catalog, use the above procedure to delete the raws - in the old catalog, find missing files and delete them from catalog.
Just loaded my high decimated zbrush model into 3dsmax 2012 for baking. 4,538056 polys in one go from GoZ.
17 x 2048 tex tiff maps applied and still running. The realistic mode is on and nitrous is running. I cant believe the quality I am seeing in the viewport. Phew, incredible.
I have imported my existing folder structure to catalog.
My current folder names contain when, where, what & who information. I created a couple of smart collections, but all I get are images. How do I get a result set of folders? Easy example is 'wedding'. I need a list of WEDDING EVENTS, not 20,000+ wedding images that have no meaning when shown together. I assume this must be easy, but have already spent way too long trying to figure out how!
How to save an Illustrator document as pdf and preserve good quality of its objects. Let's say I create a rectangle, save the document as pdf, see result - the rectangle is blurry.
I'm having a bit of a problem with audio crackle. With one music track playing on the background, and an audio file set to play simultaneously, results with a crackling audio file. As far as I can say, the music file on the background plays OK regardless if the voice track crackles. The individual clips play OK, so this isn't because of the source audio. The project is a trailer, with the narrative voice consisting of audio files on the voice track and music playing on the background. It doesn't matter whether the narrative audio is set on the voice track or an additional music track, same problem every time.
The funny thing is that this only occurs when I'm using the timeline view or creating a video / an audio file from the project - in the 'sound mixer'- mode everything sounds and looks perfect. When I select the sound mixer and then click 'share' -> create video / audio file, the program apparently switches to the timeline view and the crackle transfers to the end result as well.
I've tried this on XP and Win 7, with no difference whatsoever. Updated Direct X, installed RealPlayer, Media Player and a whole bunch of codecs, but to no avail. Tried .ogg, .mp3 and .wav as audio formats. This is actually what I find really weird - an uncompressed .wav is the last file type you'd expect to have problems with.
I am making a Blurb photo book in CDx4. Everything goes very well. But then I try to publish the result to pdf/x3, as requested by Blurb. The colors of the bitmaps are wrong, dull. I try to publish to acrobat 4. Everything is all right. Other pdf formats seem to do very good as well.
I think it has something to do with rgb and cmyk, but whatever I try to change, it does not work. I converted the bitmaps to cmyk, I changed things in the color management (had things with that in the past -> color management off seems the best), nothing works.
