Paint.NET :: Global PaintBucket For All Transparencies Of Same Color?
Apr 4, 2011
How do I easily change all different transparency levels of one color to a new color with matching transparencies? I want the antialising pixels for parts of my logo to keep the same transparency, but change all pixels with the same color to a new color. Everything I have tried so far doesn't seem to work, and I must not have the recolor tool figured out. I'm loving Paint.Net, but a little frustrated right now.
I wanted to upgrade from PSP 8, which doesn't work well at all any more since I installed Win7 to the newest Corel's PSP x5.After downloading and installing the 30 day demo I went to view some of my saved PNG & PSD files which have transparencies, but PSP x5 will not display the transparencies, instead it turns their backgrounds into a solid white.
I'm still using GIMP 2 which has no problem showing my transparencies, why won't PSP x5 show them and what do I do I need to do to view my transparencies?
I am attempting to edit a scanned abstract drawing where many of the colors are similar, resulting in them printing as all the same shade of red. I am attempting to change some of the reds to have a greater degree of shading. I am aware that I can probably do this using masks and RGB tweaking; but it occurred to me that I can also use a drawn shape and color fill with transparency to change the shade. This worked very well; but it caused one problem I don't know how to solve.
The image I am editing is intended to be uploaded to a website named Zazzle that takes your artwork and puts it on their products. This includes anything from notecards to canvases, to clothing, to shoes, etc., etc. Customers browse the site to find products and images they like. I also have a free webpage on the site where I can promote the sale of these items with my artwork on them.
The image must be a high resolution preferably png file which can be resized greatly for the canvases or left as is for notecards and the like.
While experimenting with the size of my image, I discovered that the edits I performed stay the same size while the rest of the image increases. Is it possible to make the edited shapes part of the scanned image so they will increase and decrease with the rest of the image?
I have a PNG image that has a transparent border. I want to select the pixels in the image that are not transparent (it's a photo-type object with non-geometric edges) then replace the object with a patterned fill.
Process:
1. Select Magic Wand and click on the transparent portion of the image (I have all but what I want selected) 2. Invert the selection (I have what I want selected) 3. Select the Fill bucket and fill the selection with the desired patterned fill (a checkerboard, let's say).
Problem:
1. To properly select the transparent portion of the image without the object and retain a sharp edge, I need to set a low tolerance level. 2. To properly fill the object I need to set a high tolerance level. The photo object has typical color variety - setting a high tolerance will fill the entire thing to the selection border and not miss any pixels. 3. The Tolerance level is global and its setting is used by all tools that understand it.
Resulting Process:
1. Set Tolerance to low 2. Select Magic Wand and click on transparent portion 3. Invert selection 4. Set Tolerance to high 5. Select Fill bucket and fill the selection
Forgetting to set the tolerance to the desired level based on the tool in use produces unwanted results.
Proposed Solution:
I'm a programmer, so I envision the new Tolerance bar as an array of values instead of a single value. The array saves tolerance levels individually for each tool, and when I switch tools the tolerance level changes as well.
When I have the Magic Wand and change the tolerance, that new value is stored for Magic Wand and all other settings are unaffected.
When the app opens the values are set to some default setting (or user defined settings if there is such a startup setup process, or remembered settings from the last session if state values are retained).
Am I missing this ability for Tolerance to be set individually by tool?
I am trying to figure out a way to globally replace/swap one color for another within a document. My document would have multiple layers made up of solid color fills, text layers (possibly multiple colors within the copy block), and even possibly the color put into a bitmap import.
I am looking to better a workflow process in photoshop for updating website/interactive files. Sometimes this might work for updating global font color, layer effects(stroke/drop-shadows...), color layers, etc. The color swap that i am looking for is similar to if you were to update a swatch in InDesign. It would update everything using that specific color.
A few years ago I learned in school the usefullness of global color. I used it today and it was very usefull to quickly change the color of a lot of different objects at the same time.
HOWEVER; I remember they also tought me that it was also possible to change the brightness or shading or something inside one global color.
for example lets say I picked a red as a global color, and I have 10 objects all in that red. Then it should be possible to let 5 of those objects have a lighter version of that red color.
Then afterwards when I change my global color to green, all the objects change to green, and those 5 objects now have a lighter green color.
Am i remembering this correctly, and if so; how do I apply this? Because I cannot figure it out...
We get artwork from outside agencies with color boxes like those shown (CMYK, in percentages of 30, 50 and 100). Their color names may vary, or often the colors aren't in their color palette at all. I am supposed to recolor the boxes with our standard-named, global colors in my own swatch library. Two questions:
1. Is there a way to grab the three cyan boxes (for example), and recolor them with the global Cyan swatch, WITHOUT having the %tint in all three boxes become 100%?
What I do now, over and over in each file we receive: Select the three Cyan boxes, click on the "C" global swatch in my palette, watch them all change to 100%C. Then manually click on the left cyan box and change the tint back to 30%, and for the middle box, change it back to 50%. Etc. for the other colors. This is a PITA, and it just seems like there should be a quicker way.
2. Is there way to then recolor ALL the cyan elements (strokes, fills, gradients) used in the art with the same global cyan swatch, without changing the tints?
I am not sure, if this -- or something similar -- was answered before but I couldn't find any suitable thread/message/...
First of all some system information: * imac running OSX 10.8.x and macbook running OSX 10.9.1 * Illustrator CC * Pantone Color Manager
I am trying to use the Pantone Fashion and Home / Paper color library provided by the Pantone Color Manager, specifically for using the Radiant Ochid 18-3224 TPX (Color of the Year 2014). I saved the named library to a *.ase file and opened it in Ai. From the number of colors I guess, that all colors are imported but I can't find the 18-3224. BUT there are lots of "Unnamed Global Colors" with some of them wich might be the one in question. Using 'xxd pantone.ase' in the terminal I can find at least the name "Radiant Orchid 18-3224 TPX", which means, that it is saved in the given file.
1. I'm trying to fill a shape on my image with a gradient effect. I can use the paintbucket tool to fill in a regular solid colour, but when I try and use the gradient tool it fills the entire window with a gradient. How can I fill a particular part of the image with a gradient (it's also not really possible to use the marquee tool).
2. My image has some 'broken' shapes that floods out the whole image when I use the paintbucket fill. Is there a setting so that small gaps can be ignored and therefore no bleeding occurs (such as there is in Flash MX)?

I have CS5. The bugs and broken features in AICS6, make it unusable in my workflow.
I am specifically concerned about the inability to drag global color swatches from the color panel to Gradient stops in the Gradient Panel. I use this method to update a gradient color because I find it MUCH faster than option-dragging to duplicate a stop color, then deleting the unused stop. Since I do this constantly, I find using CS6 very tedious.
If I have a jpg or PSD file of a picture frame and I wanted to have the center be transparent how would I accomplish that. I have a program called PRO Show Producer that will let me put a picture in motion into the transparent window of a picture frame. I have a picture frame but the center is not transparent. I'm running Windows Vista.
I have two images, a picture and an overlay. The overlay is made in Photoshop using Render Clouds and the Plastic Wrap filters. I overlayed this on my picture using 50% Fill and Linear Light blend mode.
I hid the picture, and saved the overlay as a PNG-8, hoping that the variable transparency would hold. It didn't. The question is, is there a way to control levels of transparencies in a GIF or PNG?
I already know you can edit the Color Table and select different colors, or shades as it were, but there doesn't seem to be any way of implementing 50% transparency. Or really anything outside of either it is or it isn't visible.
I'm having problems with transparencies and drop shadows when publishing to PDF. Look at the attached picture: the text beneath the transparent shape looks jagged; same with drop shadows. This happens only with PDF/X-3 format; I would choose Acrobat 6 or 8 format, if I could, but that is the file format the printer service wants.
I want to produce three positive transparency (C M Y) "films" that I can lay on top of each other over a white light for demonstration purposes (to simulate the behaviour of a slide film). Obviously each film has to be printed in its own colour (Y, M, C).
I am trying to edit a pic for an avatar and need them to have transparencies (i.e. no white space around the pic) and dont seem to be able to do it in PS Can it actually be done or do it have to go with gifs ??
Illustrator CS6 exports to PNG with unwanted transparencies. I've done everything I can think of but some of the shapes in my Ai file with 100% opacity are still showing the layer under them in the PNG export file.
I'm using an Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanner. I need to tell the scanner I am scanning a transparency but there appears to be no way to do this in Elements 11.
I have trouble working with transparencies inside a symbol. It also does not work if it is power-clipped inside a symbol. The error message is as follows:
This item cannot be stored inside a Symbol. The item must be removed in order to be able to finish editing this symbol.

I am creating a design which uses an elliptical fill. When exported as a .pdf and opened in Illustrator, the fill is given the name "non-native art" and is rasterized. My question is this: if the print job were for the side of a van, could XDP be used to do this and retain a pure vector output?
When useing my old favorite graphic software MS Picture-It i often need to apply overall or border transparencies to many patches. Since im enjoying the pleasures of GIMPs select definitions which absolutely cause no distortions im often thinking - this be the only missing thing. Am i correct or do such functions like previewable halfways restoring of the previous look plus border fading indeed already exist in the new GIMP?
I'm somewhat new to Edge Animate and I'm trying to incorporate simple animation into a DPS piece that my company has been publishing for the past year. A few questions:
1) Is there a "trick" to getting transparencies to work? I've had zero luck so far and I'm beginning to resign myself to just putting the entire design into the Edge composition as a work around. There must be an easier way? I'm hoping I'm missing something simple and obvious. From my research, I've gleaned that the poster image feature is a major player in all the headaches. Speaking of which, do you have to start over and rebuild a comp everytime you need to publish without a poster?
2) I've noticed that playback is really inconsistant. Most of the time, when I first swipe on a page, the animation won't play at all. Subsequent swipes, and it begins playing fairly consistency.
3) Finally, is there any guidelines for SVG settings used in Edge? I found that many of the vector files I was using in comps were messing w/playback, so I ended up subbing them out for pngs.
I have need to combine 2 objects into 1 bitmap. Top image is a black (K 100) box with 50 tranpareny, bottom image is just a rectangle with red fill C 0 M 100 Y 100 0. When I combine into 1 bitmap coreldrawx5 is dropping out colour. Maybe using 'normal' rather than 'multiply'. When viewing with proof colours turned on it looks like B) even before combining. Looks like there must be a setting somewhere where Corel that controls how it combines colour of objects as it converts to bitmaps but for the life of me i cant find it.
A) Should be like this with combined B) Converts to this with combined colour
I started scanning my film & transparency archive and the next step is to import the scans into LR5, but I don't know how to add additional folders into the catalog. So far I have 75 folders going back over 30 years. Assuming I should import the scans into folders by year they were shot and not by the scan date.how I go about importing these folders into LR.
