Paint.NET :: Change Save As PNG To JPG?
Apr 22, 2013
I have been using Paint.net for several years now and I have a question. I save absolutely non of my images as .PNG. I save all of them as .JPG, since .JPG is the most commonly used format on the Internet. Is there a way I change the automatic setting from .PNG to .JPG?

I just realized that the default is set to 20, which is too aggressive.
However, I don't see the way to change it in preferences.
Do I need to change the compression factor with every single save ? Or is there a way to set it in program defaults ?

Paint.net seems to default (at least for me) to saving pictures as PNGs. I would like to change the default save type to JPG - how do I do this? And how do I change other defaults like scan types, etc?

However for business use I have a need to efficiently send .jpg files to various people and I often forget to change the file type so I have to reload the file, re-save the file, etc. and strangely, I can't seem to find the preferences menu to change this option. Where the default save-as file type can be changed to .jpg?

AND/OR a open tab recovery cache or way to extract the images that get lost during a crash of PDN.
Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.

While "Draw" of Coreldraw X5 is working well, Corel Photopaint X5 does not "Save", "Save as..." or "Export" files. It just does nothing, when I choose to save a file under "something.cpt". It works, as long as it is a JPG, but not as a CPT. I am working on a Win7, with CorelX5 in german. Support told me to reinstall.

I want to use the paint brush for editing a photo I have, but the only color available is black. No matter where I've looked in PSP, there was no option to change the color of the paint brush. I've read online that you need to change the pallet to material pallet, then go to "Foreground & Stroke Properties" and set the color box to the color I want, but the only colors I get are different hues of black and gray.
Even in Paint it's just a matter of clicking the desired color to use different colors. Why isn't it so simple in PSP?

I know a while back, Photoshop was offering to save my files as JPEGs as default. But now it defaults to saving as a PSD file, and I am having some difficulty figuring out how to make it save as a JPG file instead.

I have a picture with large area of color: #fffdfd, when I save it for web (jpg) this color is changed to #fefcfd (in JPG).
I just can not save as JPG with #fffdfd. (was trying uncheck convert to sRGB, do not embed color profile - always #fffdfd changes to #fefcfd when save for web)
However, color #fefcfd when save for web , does not change.
Why some colors change and some not? Is it a bug ?
Window7 64bit, Photoshop CS6

I´m programatically opening Paint.Net (PDN) to edit an image from within MS Excel, once finished editing, I go back to Excel showing the updated image.
Any option within PDN that would allow just pressing the "X" for closing PDN and would auto-save all (with the curret saving settings, including quality% for JPG files) and close PDN without further asking if you want to save (no additional pop-up messages).
That option would be OFF by default (as the current behaviour) but could be turned on by the user to allow this new "Auto Save All On Close" behavior...

I need to save images as monochrome 1 bit bmp for technical reasons (not only for optical). At this time I'm digitizing several hundreds of old documents (e.g. from university), which I need to lay away, and save them as PDF. The latter become relatively large and because of this I'd like to save them as 1 bit monochrome bmp before saving them as PDF. To edit every single scanned image in paint.net first, saving them as 8 bit bmp and saving them again as 1 bit bmp in another application (e.g. paint) is quite time-consuming. It would be great if future versions (or a plugin - is there any?) could save bmp's as monochrome 1 bit bmp-files.

I was looking for a way to quickly save as png without flattening. I work using the pdn format but I save to png 32 bit. It would be nice to have an Export feature in the file menu separate from the save options. Basically just hit export and it brings up the normal dialogs for saving but just saves the image leaving me with the pdn as I continue working.
I'm sure you've realized that not everyone wants to work in png and destroy their layers just because they need to upload for the web really quick. At the moment (as you know) when working on a pdn you have to do save as, select png from the file types and hit save, hit okay on the dialog, click flatten, now you have a png file with a new name if you changed it, then hit ctrl+z to get your layers back, press ctrl+s to save and since it has layers it pops up to save as pdn, rename back to old name and save. It's a lot of steps.
So an alternative would be click Export and if you've exported before it already has the name and file type you want filled in ready to overwrite your last export then click save have that dialog pop up for the bit type and click okay and you're done.
It would be even simpler if you merged the save dialog into the image setting dialog then you could hit Export and hit an export button and be done in two clicks. A lot more work though at a minor usability gain.

I'm working with CS5 now and I mentioned the following terrible fact: When I open a vector EPS in CS5 raster settings are always CMYK and 72dpi. I know very well that CS2 remembers my first type in of settings (e.g. grayscale and 300dpi) and use it also for upcoming EPS files during a session. CS5 settings are CMYK and 72dpi always... each EPS.

I need to open a PDF file that has multiple pages. On "FileOpen" it comes up with Import PDF. There are 21 pages. I know how to highlight all the pages so they all load at once. Do to the volume of work this is impractical. Control+A will not work for this.
1. Is there a way to have "Open" select all, no matter on the number, pages into Photoshop 13.122. On "Save As" it defaults to ".psd". I want it to default to ".jpg". I'm doing several hundred plus.3. Also do not want it to ask me if “OK”, just do the save.
All I want to do is bring in the "PDF's" and brake the multiple files to a singe page ".jpg" or "PNG" file and rename the file just before the save.

I just re-built my PC with Vista x64 and re-installed PS CS3 from scratch upgrading to 10.0.1 from the auto update. I need this for LR2 to integrate.
Since the re-build (I was on XP x64 previously) one of my actions which includes a 'Save As', which saves the image to a specified directory and as a JPG (not the directory the image opens from), is unexpectedly displaying the 'save as' dialog, waiting for manual input. This opens on the source image directory, suggesting it's ignored the suggested destination path, and it suggests the PSD file type rather than JPG as suggested in the action. It seems to be looking for input simply because it thinks I'm trying to overwrite the original image file.

I'd like to change the filename of a part before it's first save. The code would look somewhat like below.
Private Sub m_appEvents_OnNewDocument( _ByVal DocumentObject As Inventor._Document, _ByVal BeforeOrAfter As Inventor.EventTimingEnum, _ByVal Context As Inventor.NameValueMap, _ByRef HandlingCode As Inventor.HandlingCodeEnum) _Handles m_appEvents.OnNewDocumentDim oDoc As Inventor.DocumentDim Name1 As String = "New Filename...."oDoc = DocumentObjectoDoc = oDocoDoc.PropertySets("Design Tracking Properties").Item("Part Number").Value = Name1oDoc.DisplayName = Name1oDoc.FullFileName = Name1.
The code partly works when opening a template but doesn;t work when create a an in place component or frame generated part? What do I need to modify to catch and change the filename before it's saved?

I have AutoCAD 2010 on a 2002 Windows XP Professional system. I do not know what I did to cause it but when I do a "save as" using the button, I no longer get a window. I can only save through the command bar. I cannot seem to change the save to folder using the command bar so I really need to get the window back.

The default for the save as pdf is Acrobat 6. Problem just started of my artboards not translating correctly in the PDF. Preview of the document is also very strange. Saved PDF will open correctly in Ai, but not in anything else including Acrobat and Apple Preview. Changing the compatibility to 8 fixes problem.
I get that I can make a custom preset, action or script, but I really would like to just keep it simple if possible.

A client sent me four images taken with his Canon camera - they are in Canon Raw (.CR2) file format. I can't get them to open and then save them as a .jpg or a .pspimage format in either PSP9 or in X3. In X3, when I click on the pic, it brings up the "Canon RAW Lab" dialogue box, showing a black and white image but with a deep pinkish cast to it. And there is no options to save it. What do I do from here?

I haven't really used PSP for doing custom graphics, mostly for working on photos; but before that I was using Adobe Photoshop and I liked (and still do) how it made saving easier than PSP does. Unfortunately Photoshop is horribly expensive so this is a better option.
I can't figure out for the life of me how to save .psd or .eps with the layers? It keeps telling me that due to how I am saving or the file format the alpha layers will be lost and so on.

When I open an image from my NAS, edit the image, and then attempt to save it as the default jpg type I get the following error message: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
This error doesnt happen with any other image filetype. It doesnt happen with local hard drives. It doesnt happen with unedited images. It just appears to happen with edited images, the default jpg filetype, and my NAS.
When I actually type in ".jpg" at the end of the filename it works.
Its an annoyance i would like solved because I do this a lot.
