Paint.NET :: Change Default Background Applied When Moving Or Deleting Selection

Feb 10, 2013

How do I change the default background that is applied when moving or deleting a selection ?

I want to preserve the existing background color, I don't want it to become transparent.

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X6 :: Deleting Object Background

May 11, 2013

I am trying to delete an object background to create a gif of an object (the object in this case is a broken cell phone).  Everything appears to be gone BUT...there are these flowing blue items around the object.  When I export the file to gif...those items are still attached to the object.

I have used photo shop and have not had any issue removing a background around an object.

Paint.NET :: Moving Selection Tools

May 8, 2012

1) I open up a large image as background.
2) I add a new layer, then import a smaller image into that layer.
3) I try to select and move the smaller image so that it's positioned where I want it, but despite seeing the "nodes" on the side and corners and trying every possible combination of blue arrow/white arrow/shift etc., all I seem to be able to move across the canvas is the transparent box created by the nodes. In other words, I'm moving the box that contains the image, but apparently not the image itself.

Might this have anything to do with one image being a .pdn and the other being a .png?

GIMP :: Moving Selected Area Versus Moving Selection / Moving Whole Image

Mar 22, 2012

I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.

If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.

The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.

How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."

Paint.NET :: Get Transparent Background In A Selection?

Jan 29, 2011

I just downloaded paint.net, it looks like it will be a big upgrade from PC Paint, which I currently use. There's one important feature in PC Paint that I can't seem to locate, though: declaring the background of a selected area to be transparent. In sequence, it looks like this:

I use this function quite a bit, and I figure if it's in PC Paint, that it would certainly be in paint.net - I just can't find the spot.

I've been trying to make a Doll Maker, and it's come to my attention that I can't figure out how to make a selected area transparent! I just want to select what I want and then mess with the opacity; is that too hard to make it do!?!

I tried searching for this but turned up nothing. It'd be a really useful feature if it can't be done already.

Paint.NET :: Change Default Settings From PNG To JPEG

May 21, 2012

I have been using Paint.net for quite awhile now and like it very much. There is one thing I would like to see, it would make using Paint.net easier. Right now the default setting for saving is PNG. Unfortunately I do not use PNG, the universal setting for just about anything is JPEG. Is there a way to change the default setting from PNG to JPEG? I downloaded and installed the latest versio, 3.5.10 but it made no differense. I have been unable to find anything about this in the drop down menus.

Paint.NET :: Change Windows Default Image Editor

Dec 29, 2011

If you right-click an image and click "Edit" in Windows, this opens the image in MS Paint. And you can't change this. Or that's what I thought; here's how to change that to Paint.NET!

Warning: This post probably looks really suspicious since this is my first post. What the heck. Anyways, I know diddly squat about the Registry. Some tweak sites for XP mentioned this tweak (stating this key would be found at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations \ image \ shell \ edit \ command). That exact key didn't exist. So, I searched the Registry for "SystemFileAssociations" and found the key I wrote below (in HKLM). I then took a huge risk and tried the hack. It worked, but I may have inadvertently told Windows to delete C:\Windows upon reboot.

All right, so if you right-click an image in Windows XP, Vista, or 7, there is an option in the context menu called "edit". This defaults to MS Paint and I thought that was impossible to change. Until I did some Google'ing (see Warning above). Go to this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command

First, back up your registry (System Restore or regedit.exe -> File -> Export). Again, anything you do now is completely your responsibility. Then, right-click the only key in there, click Modify, and replace the path with your PaintDotNet.exe path (obviously include \PaintDotNet.exe). Don't change the quotes or the %1. Just delete MS Paint's path and insert PaintDotNet.exe's path.

Paint.NET :: Change Default Size Of Loading Image?

Mar 24, 2011

Is it possible for me to change the default size of the new image which loads when paint.net is started?

It would be useful for me to start with an image size of 1024 x 1024.

I am aware that I can change the size of images, and that the size of any new image created after loading is the same as the last image.

Edit: I just realised a workaround. I saved a blank 1024 square pdn file to my desktop. Clicking this starts paint.net with this sized image.

Jun 4, 2012

Is this possible, as a for instance in Autocad 2011 .If I had an heptagan (7 sides) (had to look this up LOL) which was equal sides and I deleted one line, would I be able to move the two end lines together so it is then a Hextegon (6 sides) and they are all still equal?Or move one of the end lines to close the gap, and all the other lines move with it to keep it in proportion.

I have the BIG Autocad Bible but not knowing what the name of this process is, makes it hard for me to look it up.I can select all the lines and move them but not close the gap.
