Maya :: Eye Dropper Not Working?
Oct 2, 2012Cannot get the Eye Dropper to select ANYTHING in Maya 2013 on a Mac. Also, just tried the Eye Dropper tip posted on "Maya Station" site and that too does not work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf the toolkit was working without issues previously, it's possible that your Maya preferences have become corrupt. Which is what might be causing the issue. You can default your Maya preferences by renaming the "prefs" folder located in the following location:
C:UsersUSERNAMEDocumentsmaya2014-x64
Once you have renamed that folder to something like prefsOld restart Maya and if prompted to make sure you select the option to create default preferences. Then check to see if that fixed the toolkit issue.
Today, I decided to give Maya a try. After I installed the program, I created primitive polygons and played with the program a bit. Everything worked fine. However, I have a few problems. The shortcut keys aren't working. It's valid to say that the problem is occurring because the hotkeys aren't set. I checked the hotkey editor interface and determined that all the hotkeys are set. Consequently, the problem isn't occurring because the hotkeys aren't set. Also, right mouse click doesn't bring up a menu. Is there an option to toggle hotkeys that I don't know about?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if any effort will ever be made to fix the issues surrounding the "Linear Working Units" preference in Maya.
There are many persistent bugs surrounding the use of this feature. Locators change size, NURBS tools go haywire, etc.
Just today I discovered another very bizarre problem. With Linear Working Units set to centimeters (the default), then ordinary, normalized NURBS curves have a U parameter space from zero to one. It's axiomatic that the U parameter is the distance along the curve, measured not in linear units, but expressed as a decimal of the total length. I.E. halfway along the path, the U Value is 0.5, regardless of the actual length of the curve.
So that all makes perfect sense. But if we change the Linear Working Units to anything other than centimeters, everything goes to hell. With Linear Working Units set to Feet, then a normalized NURBS curve has a U parameter space from zero to 0.033. This can be clearly seen if attaching a Motion Path to a NURBS curve. The keyframe at the end of the curve shows a U Value of 0.033.
Obviously, a centimeter is 0.033 of a foot. But what does that have to do with NURBS parameter space? Absolutely nothing. Changing the working units should have no effect on the readout of the U Value.
I'm hoping the developers 1) know about this, 2) care, and 3) have the freedom to do something about it. Because this is, to put it bluntly, crazy-making. I know that the Linear Working Units feature was bolted on to an existing unitless system, so there are bound to be problems. But why on earth are NURBS parametric values affected by the choice of working units?
So since I have had 2014 installed grease pencil only worked once and I have not changed anything. It just worked all of a sudden one start up, but prior to that and since it has not worked at all. Everything opens (the menu) and when I add a frame and select a brush that all works, but when using the mouse or Wacom tab it will not paint anything. I even upgraded to the latest drivers for the Wacom, but like I said the mouse wont work either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working out of the Mastering Autodesk Maya 2011 book and am on page 135. (I'm on a MAC)
Tool: Rebuild Curve (after creating curve with): EP Curve Tool
I'm trying to rebuild a curve I just made but when I hit "rebuild" I get the error message:
//Error: Nothing was selected to rebuild. You must select NURBS curves or curve on surface. But it's strange, I DO have it selected. In the Outliner I have it highlighted and the curve is highlighted yellow.
The strange thing is when the curve is not highlighted it is RED? I also don't seem to be able to select it with the cursor - only in the Outliner.
I created the curve with the CV Curve tool by snapping to the ends of 2 other curves and then hitting "enter".
I'm guessing the fact the created curve is red when unselected is telling me something is wrong with the curve but I'm unsure.
When I try and scale anything, I hit the hotkey R and the 3 manipulators appear. No matter what I click on, X,Y,Z,or center, when I move my mouse I get an "automatic" jump increasing the size. I can't seem to get it to do anything but these staged jumps in size. I cannot scale anything down, unless I use the universal manipulator tool. So, for example, if I want to scale a size 2 sphere to a size .8, I would have to use the universal manipulator and Shift-click on one of the matrix corners and that will allow a uniform scaling. I realize that I can always enter the scaling amount in the Channel or Attribute box field, but it may be that I'm trying to visually scale something and entering numbers isn't exactly the best way.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have been generating technical illustrations using Mental Ray in Maya 2011 with brilliant results. The studio upgraded to Maya 2012 and we now find that when we render any existing scenes, or any new scenes using entirely Maya 2012 nodes, we don't have any contour lines.
Our scenes are setup as follows:
Materials - Contour_Shader_Simple.outValue > ShadingGroup.miContourShader
Cameras - Contour_Composite.message > Camera.miOutputShader
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Contrast Shader > Contour_Contrast_Function_Levels
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Store Shader > Contour_Store_Function
why the scenes now don't have any contour lines?
I just tried out to trim two NURBS-Objects (e.g. 2 Spheres), but nothing happens. If i select both spheres and go to "Edit NURBS -> Trim Tool" => NOTHING or also if i try to use Trim Tool (without any Object selected), i'am not able to select a NURBS-Object.
I've used the Trim-Tool very often, but now it's not working anymore.
I wonder why it will not bend. Why it didn't bend? I attached the PrintScreen of the problem
View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently i tried working with the modeling toolkit in maya 2014, and it works great in perspective, but for some reason when im in component mode and I try and make a marquee selection, the marquee does not show up although it does select the component.
After selecting some component and try moving then with the translate handles, it does not move at all, instead it deselect the components.I am able to middle click move components.
So i decided to turn off the modeling toolkit and everything worked fine with the classic manipulators.
Horse auto rigger not working after much of tweaking. which keys to use like trans +ins or d+v.
When i tweak less then all controls are visible other wise leg, tail, main and ears control are not visible. how to adjust the bones so that all controls are visible. [URL]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Maya's vertex/point snapping function. This is a simple thing to do normally but in the 2014 student version (which is full functionality other than having a prompt saying it is a student version upon saving the file), it isn't working.
Basically the process is making a selection of vertices and with the transform tool active, MMB dragging the manipulator to snap the selection to a destination vertex. The pivot point/manipulator of the selection is moving and snapping to the destination vertex on it's own when I hold 'V' and MMB drag, rather than the whole selection moving with the transform manipulator and snapping to the destination vertex. This problem is also happening with the modelling toolkit which is really annoying. I have checked that i'm not in edit pivot mode etc.
The point snapping is working however for objects, but not in component mode as above.
I am running Windows 7, Maya SP2.
I am trying to get the hand to write with a pencil. I pose the hand and fingers holding the pencil and constrain (parent constraint with offset) the pencil to the hand's wrist controller and freeze the pencil's translation attributes. When moving the wrist controller creating key frames or translating in the UI, the pencil does not follow the hand/fingers. There seems to be an offset with the pencil that get worse the farther I translate or rotate the wrist controller. I tried doing the same with just the fingers and getting the same result.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to choose a color from the center of the image. Presently when I use the eyedropper, it selects a color, but when running the action on another file, it just show me the same color as when I recorded my action.
I would like it to select whatever color is situated at 50% width / 50% length of the layer. My preferences are set to percents, rulers ditto.
How do you use the eye dropper tool?
I click the dropper on my image and nothing happens.
I am currently using Photoshop CS4 and for some reason my color dropper will only allow the color gray. It will let me select a new color, but when I hit OK, it stays gray. Did I hit a button that I was not aware of? How do I get it back to normal?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using Photoshop for quite sometime now for basic image editing and website design. I recently upgraded to 7.0 since 4.0 was giving me some trouble with memory errors that would result in loss of work. Anyways my question is this: Lately (as in the past week or 2) I have been having a problem with my Photoshop, when I would click on the color selector (the 2 color boxes in the tool selector box) it would select the Eye Dropper tool instead. And from there I could not do anything without hitting Alt + F4, after doing that the Eye Dropper tool would go away and I would be back where I started, still unable to change or choose a color. While the Eye Dropper tool is active when I do this I cannot click on anything or do anything, the Eye Dropper tool will not even function. I would only get an error sound as if I was trying to do something I'm not supposed too. I've never encountered this before and cannot find this same problem anywhere online. I have reinstalled PS numerous times and still the same effect. Has anybody else had or seen this problem? How can I fix it? Thank you for your time.
Nevermind, I found the problem. Apparently if I run PS with only 1 monitor on I get this error, but as long I have both monitors enabled it works fine. That's weird but atleast it works now.
I have two open files in illustrator and I want to use the eye dropper tool to select a color from one document and use it in the other. Is there a way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently using PS CC and can't use the eye dropper tool. I get a dialog box that reads "Could not use the eye dropper tool because of a program error"
I have tried the tool from many angles thru the color picker, shifting the brush tool, ect. I get the same message. The eyedropper works for me in Illustrator.
You don't realize how necessary the eyedropper tool is till it is not working! I have rebooted, tried 64bit and 32, uninstalled CC and and reinstalled with no luck.
About color lab color correction, in those days i'm watching a lot of tutorials about cause i'm trying to understand this new to me subject in a better way.
While neutralizing color, correcting a photo in Lab by Curvas adj Layer, the default eye dropper values are:
Black- 0, Gray- 128, White- 255 RGB (0-54-100 Lab)
To prevent the possibility of out of gamma some tutorials suggest to change the above mentioned default values:
Black from 0 to 26 RGB (0-6 Lab), White from 255 to 243 RGB (0-96 Lab)
What about the middle eye dropper Gray? A few tutorials mention to chage the gray value too from 128 to 133 RGB (54-56Lab) while the majority never mention gray value, they tell about black and white never mentioning the gray value; what is your experience about?
The above mentioned "out of gamma problem" is mainly related to output printing or to screen displaying too?
Generally speaking I would like to receive some comment by you gurus about this very subject, while working in Lab, what about your Curvas adj Layer eye dropper values, do you change them or you leave them as default?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSimilar to how Minecraft allows you to select the block your cursor is over via middle mouse click,
wouldn't it be intuitive to make the eye dropper/color selector bound to the middle mouse button?
As far as I can tell, a middle mouse click does nothing in PDN right now and when I tested to see if this feature was already implemented, it just felt right to me.
So I say follow in Notch's footsteps with the middle mouse button, afterall he himself advocated PDN on his blog for creating games
The Eye Dropper tool is acting funky. It was preventing me from picking up the color of my template when in outline mode - instead selecting no fill and no stroke. I finally got it to work by unchecking "Appearance" in the tool options. I didn't actually change any settings inside appearance (everything inside is still checked). That did allow me to select the templates color, but now it is also selecting my "path color". If my layer's color is set to Cyan for example, eye dropper actually selects cyan if i click on the path.
Is there a way to allow template color selection but avoid path color selection?
EDIT: I just discovered that these settings don't even pick up the template color correctly. They choose the color of the auto-dim/opacity that occurs when setting a template.
I am working with font "not a free one" and it has a problem that I can not take its style with the eye dropper,
it only gives the same font name but the shape of font did not applied
Anytime I use the tool to copy a color, the entire format copies and changes the look of the object I already have selected. Is there a way to set my preferences so I only copy color with the Eye Dropper tool?
