Lightroom :: Upgrading From 4.3 To 5 - All Existing GPS Data Are Lost?
Aug 6, 2013
After upgrading from LR4.3 to 5 all existing GPS data are lost. Also new RAW NEF photo's don't show the GPS data. The old files in 4.3 were .dng converted NEF files. All these data missing in thousands of photo's is frustrating to say the least.
I was recently reading on a Nikon Forum where a writer stated that some data is lost when converting to DNG in Lightroom.
Every compression algorith is flawed if a single bit is lost and the original can not be recreated. Since the DNG converter must know about your camera model and it actually converts the NEF into an image before compressing the image, AND you can not, after converting to DNG convert back to original NEF, it is to me obvious that it is indeed a lossy compression, not just 'simple' data compression like zip, tar or whatever other type of data compression you want to compare with, which is truly lossless.
The Nikon lossless compression works entirely on data compression principle, preserving every bit and recreating every bit of data when you edit the raw image, and that can not be done once the image is converted to DNG. That is why many people, who use DNG, also preserve the original NEF, which in my opinion, is a totally pointless work flow. The only reason I can see to use DNG is the ability to share the image with somebody else who is not able to edit NEF, but I might as well use TIFF in that case.
The DNG converter must have knowledge of the camera model concerned, and be able to process the source raw image file, including key metadata to be able to convert and compress. A real lossless compression algorithm NEVER looks at the contents of the data because it is totally irrelevant for the converter to know what type of data you convert and try to compress, since it is based on mathematical patterns and statistics only.
I look at DNG like I look at PDF. A Word document, especially with photographs in it, can be converted to PDF and it may look like you have not lost anything, but yes, you have lost a lot actually and you can never ever recreate the original Word document with the same quality like you have had in your original.
I am in the process of upgrading from Elements 2.0 to Elements 11.0 AND setting up a new computer. How do I make sure I don't lose any of my photos and in which order should I do this? Do I need to install 2.0 on new computer?
Recently I have been asked for certain images taken in 2011.
When searching for them I have discovered that the original capture information has been "gone missing / become lost".
For clarity, the information I'm referring to is the ACTUAL capture date and time of the original image as appears in the raw file metadata.
This data no longer appears on ANY of the subsequent version of any image taken in that year whether PSD or Jpeg. From checks already carried out, the data remains on the original RAW files.
All other years are OK.How can I transfer the date & time of the original image capture from the raw file to subsequents copies (PSD / Jpegs etc)? As literally hundreds of images are involved, is there a bulk routine that I can perform to synchronise this data?
Suddenly lost "license configuration data"?I get this error when I start up Photoshop: "The license configuration data for Adobe Photoshop is no longer usable".I click "OK" and it takes me to the activation screen with the serial number already entered. Activate it on line and I get an error so I go to phone activate... the guy I talk to says the serial number (the one that is automatically entered by my copy of Photoshop) is not valid. I've had this copy of Photoshop on my PC for about 5 years and it has always worked fine.
I currently work with Lightroom 2 and plan to purchase Lightroom 4. When installing 4, are all existing library files automatically transferred? I plan to purchase a hard copy of Version 4 as contrasted with an on line update from 2 to 4.
I have downloaded 3.6 and run the installation but for some reason LR is not "recognizing" it. Do I need to enable LR to run a release candidate or some other proactive measure?
we have a block that we use to identify rooms. that block has 3 attributes: rooms name, rooms number and surface area.
A former colleague once showed me how to do this but I can't reach him... How can I inquire the data from an area and tag-it right to the surface area attribute of my block? I don't mean pick a pline, list and edit the block... it's something like pick the closed pline and the "area" data is displayed in the right tag of my block?
Just recently I have noticed a Major problem occurring with Xdata. My programs that i use XDATA storage in work fine until you save the drawing. When you call the file back up the Xdata is gone the only thing in the xdata is NameSpace value. Is this related somehow to a Windows update?
I already have a cut list template in Excel that calculates my stock material, volume, etc when I populate the appropriate fields. It is also connected to an access database that has various information that automatically generates the final price of my product based on various suppliers prices and data with whom I do business with and so on.
I would like to know if there was a way with iLogic to make Inventor populate specific cells with information found in the BOM such as: description; Qty and custom iProperties value like dimensions, etc?
The reason why I'm making a new topic out of this is that I have read previous post about the issue, but they were regarding "exporting the BOM to an excel". I, on the other hand, would like to populate an already existing spreadsheet with data from the BOM
After exploring the iLogic snippets, I've only found the "export" option. It referenced the API snippets, but with limited programming knowledge there is not much I can understand.
I have a rather large project for a roadway reconstruction. Therefore, the existing utilities are in a separate drawing and the existing ground surface model is in a separate drawing. All the above surface items (curb and gutter, asphalt, concrete, signs, sidewalks, landscaping, etc..) are in the master drawing. I then xref'd in my utility drawing and though I would use data shortcuts for my existing ground surface drawing. I took the surveyed triangles (3d faces) from our raw survey drawing and copied them into my surface drawing, created a surface from the triangles, created a boundary and such. So far everything is good. I created the working folder for the data shortcuts for this project and saved the drawing and closed it. I went into my master drawing and clicked on "Create Reference". I did not promote. The reference came though and everything is fine. Now I want to add contour labels in my surface drawing which I did but they do not show up in my master drawing but the contours themselves do. Do I have to promote this drawing into my master drawing so I can create the contour labels in my master drawing? I guess that is fine but the issue is we have small areas of topo that will be added as needed down the road. If I promote the surface drawing into my master drawing then when I add topo to the surface drawing, it wont update in my master drawing.
I am fairly new to the Civil side of AutoCAD, as I used to work primarily in Map. I am working on a street rehab project in which I need to take survey points showing existing elevations (centerline, flowline, and top of curb) and show existing profiles in a profile view. I have no problems setting up the profile view(s) or the centerline alignment, but I am having problems with creating the profiles themselves, and I have a two part question about them
Question 1: According to the user's guide, the correct way to set up an "existing" profile is by extracting it from a surface, but I don't have a surface to use. In reading through the various profile types, the best way to set up what I want seems to be by using the profile layout tools, but the help says that a profile layout is supposed to be for a final "proposed" profile, not the existing. Does this actually matter? Will I be breaking Civil functionality by creating an existing profile using the profile layout tools?
Question 2: In reading through the profile layout tools, everything seems to be centered around PVI's. Even using the "tangent tangent" method to add in points seems to only use the first and last point as controls, with everything in between treated as a PVI. If you look at the documentation here, points one and four are treated as actual elevations, while curvature occurs at points 2 and 3. In my case, since what I have is a series of actual points on a surface, each point should be an actual surface elevation with curvature occurring between points and not at them. What method should I be using to input the points in the profile?
I a thinking of upgrading my LR to the new 5. I was able to try Irdient new upgrade for X-Trans and my file are so much more crisp and detailed then they are in LR with your support for the X-Trans. Are you going to upgrade you support to match those of Irdient. I am sure you have read the reviews and have used the product for your own edificaiton. If you are not, I may have to switch, my business depends on my best product.
I just installed LR4 having previously been using LR3. I went to import some new images and my import presets (such as metadata to insert copyright info) are no longer there. How do I restore these (and potentially other presets I've yet to discover missing) painlessly and quickly? I thought upgrading my catalog would carry this information into LR4 but it would seem not.
Recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 and when photos imported from lightroom 4 they are no longer organized they way they were in lightroom 4. They were organized by year and month, now they are all in one folder with no organization. Is there a way to change this setting to autmatically organize on import by year and month. I can't find my older pictures in lightroom.
I am currently using LR 3 and am in the middle of editing a full wedding. Should I wait until I've edited the wedding before I upgrade or will all of my saved edits transfer from LR 3 to 5?
My Lr4 calalog has all my color labels but when upgrading that calalog to Lr5 - all color labels on images are stripped and I see the label default (Red - Delete, etc)
I went into the Roaming - Adobe - Lightroom folder and found "Label Sets" but I fear what is in there is the Lr5 stuff
Question: How can I get all my Lr5 catalog images to have the same color labels as my Lr4 catalog?
When I insert new data on an existing graph (for example, just adding a new year of data) and press insert, it just deletes the graph entirely. My only option is to recreate the entire graph which is frustrating because I lose its format and colors.
Restored files from trash bin, developed 2 in LR and clicked file to NEW CATALOG and closed LR and reopened to see new catalog i thought would be with all the other folders. ALL FOLDERS GONE!!. I was promoted to import pics and having trouble noting that. Flikr account was closed too. Prompted me to registered.
I have 28,485 photos in one Lightroom catalogue, but it appears to have lost them all. Everything has a question mark on it. I have not moved the photos and what it tells me is the last location is still the location - nothing has changed. If I go through the 'find missiong photos' routine, it will find them again. However, it only does that one folder at a time, even with the 'find nearby photos' ticked, and there are hundreds of folders. I can't go through all of them manually, and don't understand why it has done this when I haven't moved any of the photos. I have other catalogues that are working normally, and I don't want to start again because of losing all my selections and collections.
I was working in Lightroom 5.3 and did something to lose my tools...no contrast, no clarity, no sharpening...I saw an online fix but it was for a PC and I own an Apple...the screens were not the same.
