We have a server and the original photos will be stored there. How can we manage the library so that both users have the same library contents.
In other words, can we have one library of 50,000 pictures that we can both access?
After finally running out of space on my computer I've shifted my photo library onto an external hard drive. I did this outside of lightroom as I did not expect there to be too many complications
There is a general folder named "Photos" and within are the sub folders for the photos. I did a simple drag and drop from my computer to the hard drive and expected Lightroom to simple show the new directory in the folder panel.
What would be the simplest way to re-access the files since moving them to the new hard drive?
Is it possible to import BR photo library into Lightroom 4? ( PS Version 5)? If not what is the best solution to organize or combine current folders with LR?

View 19 Replies View RelatedThis is from an online tutorial and is a typical view of the Library Filter. Notice that there are photo counts to the right of each of the search criteria. For example, All (2 Cameras) - 487 photos. Canon EOS 5D - 404 photos, etc.
Now notice a screen shot from my iMac with Lightroom 5.2 on OX 10.9 Mavericks.Notice that there are no photo counts after the search criteria. WHERE DID THEY GO? Or for that matter, were they ever there in this iteration of LR?Incidentally, I am aware the count will appear in the filmstrip (see the next photo) but that is not nearly as useful.
In lightroom 3 I had a border around any photo in loupe view when I dimmed the background using the "L" key (seen only when dimmed). I don't remember ever setting it, it just seemed to come that way. I cannot get this border (which really worked to separate the photo from the background) anymore. I tried all preferences and tried to find this out in Lightroom Help before submitting this question. The border looked like the one you can add in the print module. I notice that when using the "L" key to dim, I also lose the ability to display the information overlay, even when cycling through the "I" key. Am I overlooking a setting or is this just a change to LR4?

But a few weeks ago, I did something and now the file name, date/time and image size appear in white text over the top-left of any photo I have in the Develop or Library screens:
So you can see "_MG_0955.CR2" and the other details in the clouds there. How to get rid of that? I can't find anything in any of the menus. I'm on Lightroom 4.3 for Mac OSX Mountain Lion.
Is there a way to add text (names or locations)so it shows on a photo from the library or develop module? I know you can add text in the slidshow module or when exporting, but it would be faster in the library/develop module.

I've used that service before on my work computer running PSE9 and Windows XP. Why don't I get the Windows Mail option? What good is it anyway, sitting there on the start screen and seems to be unavailable otherwise -- I'm usually working from my desktop. I dual boot to Windows XP and have Office 2003 installed there and am able to email photos via Outlook (not express) -- works good. Unfortunately, Office 2003 is not compatible with Win 8 64bit. What do I do now? I saw the tip about downloading and installing Windows Live Mail for Win 7. I thought it was built into Windows 8? Arguablly Windows 8 is a goofy operating system, at least for desktop PCs!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently started using Lightroom 4 and was dissapointed that I was unable to share my catalog across Windows and OSX like I've been able to with LR2 and 3. Has the file structure changed in any way? I primarily use a Windows computer at home, but when I'm on the go, I have a MacBook Pro with that Mac version of LR4. All of my photos and catalogs are stored on an external USB 3.0 HDD. Though loading up the catalog on a Mac shows all of my folders as question marks. It seems that Windows reads the drive as a letter designator, ex. D: and OSX reads it as a volume. Used to before this wasn't a problem. Any different way I can get this to work specifically with this program. I am already aware that I can just load Boot Camp onto my mac and run it that way.

What I want to do is to share the LR catalog so that my kids and wife can access the database from their own accounts. I tried sharing the directory with the catalog and all the photos. But when I open lightroom from my kids's account, I keep getting an "unexpected error openning the catalog".
I am using Windows 8, 64bit
The catalog was created in my account (adminstrator)
the other accounts are normal accounts
I have searched around but all the questions ask about sharing on network drives. But I just want to share the catalog on the same machine on local harddrive. I made sure that all the other lightrooms are closed in the other accounts (everyone else is signed off) before I tried to open it from my kid's account.
how do I transfer my photo library from photoshop elements 10(on my external hard drive) to a new installation of photoshop elements 10 on a new computer? The first installation was on a computer with low virtual memory. I tried top fix the problem by putting in on my external hardrive. View 5 Replies View RelatedI will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
After editing in perfect photo I cannot unstack the edited photo in LR4. The thumbnail shows the number of photos in the stack, but right click/expand stack has no effect. The edited photo is not showing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a QNAP Network Attached Storage as the home for LR library so that a number of computers in the house can access the same files and various other DLNA clients can do slideshows on partcular directories if we want.
This is great when we are on our home network, but if I want to work on an image in LR while I am away from home I have to remember to make local copies (to my laptop HD) in advance.
I have a static IP and can access the required directories and files through a browser or VPN when I'm away from home. I was wondering if it's possible to give LR the web address of the directory I want to use as my library so that my photos are available to me anywhere so long as I have a web connection?
