Lightroom :: Moved Photo Locations And Cannot Access Photo Library - LR4
Nov 11, 2012
After finally running out of space on my computer I've shifted my photo library onto an external hard drive. I did this outside of lightroom as I did not expect there to be too many complications
There is a general folder named "Photos" and within are the sub folders for the photos. I did a simple drag and drop from my computer to the hard drive and expected Lightroom to simple show the new directory in the folder panel.
What would be the simplest way to re-access the files since moving them to the new hard drive?
Is there a way to add text (names or locations)so it shows on a photo from the library or develop module? I know you can add text in the slidshow module or when exporting, but it would be faster in the library/develop module.
After I edit photos in an external editor, my photo is moved from its original location in the folder, to a different one. The photo stays within the same folder but is moved to a new location within it. This is really annoying as I have a couple thousand photos from a trip to Europe I have been going through, and after my external editor closes and I am returned to LR, I have to find the photo which has been moved to some random spot so I can put it back to where it originally was. I want to keep my photos organized by location, so it really sucks when my photos from Turkey end up with my photos from Hungary. How I can stop this???
I have had a couple of catalogs that were accessible under "open recent" under the "file" tab. Suddenly those other than lightroom 3 catalog have disappeared. They arrived after passing 9,999 photos. Is there somewhere elser I should look?
Is it possible to import BR photo library into Lightroom 4? ( PS Version 5)? If not what is the best solution to organize or combine current folders with LR?
This is from an online tutorial and is a typical view of the Library Filter. Notice that there are photo counts to the right of each of the search criteria. For example, All (2 Cameras) - 487 photos. Canon EOS 5D - 404 photos, etc.
Now notice a screen shot from my iMac with Lightroom 5.2 on OX 10.9 Mavericks.Notice that there are no photo counts after the search criteria. WHERE DID THEY GO? Or for that matter, were they ever there in this iteration of LR?Incidentally, I am aware the count will appear in the filmstrip (see the next photo) but that is not nearly as useful.
In lightroom 3 I had a border around any photo in loupe view when I dimmed the background using the "L" key (seen only when dimmed). I don't remember ever setting it, it just seemed to come that way. I cannot get this border (which really worked to separate the photo from the background) anymore. I tried all preferences and tried to find this out in Lightroom Help before submitting this question. The border looked like the one you can add in the print module. I notice that when using the "L" key to dim, I also lose the ability to display the information overlay, even when cycling through the "I" key. Am I overlooking a setting or is this just a change to LR4?
The curved, block like, lines in the upper left of this photo appears in the Library module and after I export. When I am in the Develop module, the lines are not there. What is causing these lines, and how can I make it stop.
I must have done this when I was trying to do some other keyboard shortcut and got the wrong one - and now I can't figure out how to get rid of it. But a few weeks ago, I did something and now the file name, date/time and image size appear in white text over the top-left of any photo I have in the Develop or Library screens:
So you can see "_MG_0955.CR2" and the other details in the clouds there. How to get rid of that? I can't find anything in any of the menus. I'm on Lightroom 4.3 for Mac OSX Mountain Lion.
There was an error code in downloading the update for CS6 ....U44MIP7...Also, in filter - render - lighting ...there is no HUD point, so the light point cannot be moved around the photo.
Moved back catalog of photos from an almost full internal hard drive to a new larger external hard drive. Elements Organizer is now unable to locate tagged photos on the new hard drive. Is it possible to re-connect the photo tagging?
After editing in perfect photo I cannot unstack the edited photo in LR4. The thumbnail shows the number of photos in the stack, but right click/expand stack has no effect. The edited photo is not showing.
I use a QNAP Network Attached Storage as the home for LR library so that a number of computers in the house can access the same files and various other DLNA clients can do slideshows on partcular directories if we want.
This is great when we are on our home network, but if I want to work on an image in LR while I am away from home I have to remember to make local copies (to my laptop HD) in advance.
I have a static IP and can access the required directories and files through a browser or VPN when I'm away from home. I was wondering if it's possible to give LR the web address of the directory I want to use as my library so that my photos are available to me anywhere so long as I have a web connection?
My battery was dying on my Macbookpro and I decided to cancle the backup of lightroom before it did. However, it shutdown before the the program cancled. Now lightroom wont load the library because it says it is read only. Here are the erorr mesages i recieved . I already know it was a dumb thing to do; just looking for solutions now. I had a lot of work on there about 16000 pictures. Here are the dialogs I am geting. My Lightroom 3 Catalog Previews.lrdata seems to be the right size it's 11.1 GB
I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I downloaded some photos to the iMac via iPhoto and tried to allow other users to share the library. This caused major headaches. Prompts to repair permissions constantly appeared, even after permissions were changed. After a visit to the Apple store for a One to One session, it seems that the OS cannot provide this simple functionality (in windows I simply changed folder permissions and it all worked, access granted).
In OSX 10.9 I have to create a disk image, move the library there and add tweaks to auto mount the disk image volume on startup;I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I have a NAS for backups, so buying another external HD I don't need is a waste of money. Surely there must be a simpler way for all users of our iMac to have access to the photo library. I thought it would be a simple folder permission issue.
Would using Lightroom instead of iPhoto to download and organize my photos and videos solve the problem or is the problem due to the way OS 10.9 works? Would Lightroom provide the same quick sharing functionality with links to Facebook and local email apps etc?
How can I access my Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner after upgrading from PS CS4 to CS6? There is no Photoshop File/Export/Epson scanner listed anymore. I downloaded a TWAIN plug-in and loaded it in the PS Plug-in folder.
how do I transfer my photo library from photoshop elements 10(on my external hard drive) to a new installation of photoshop elements 10 on a new computer? The first installation was on a computer with low virtual memory. I tried top fix the problem by putting in on my external hardrive. Ten, I just got a new computer and reinstalled elements, buit can't figure out how to transfer my library over to the new one.
I have VS Pro X3. I have a clip I would like to get a photo from. I follow the direction up to taking a snapshot and having it appear in my photo library. How can i now send it to my Photoshop program or any place on my hard drive to email or manipulate?
I recently switched from Windows Vista to and iMac and I'm trying to edit photos in Photoshop CS6 and it won't let me make changes or edits to the photos stating that it can't allow me "write access" to save the changes? Where is the lock up? Is it in the external hard drive settings? In the camera? In the files themselves?
When I'm looking at photos in my Library, I'd like to be able to sort them in terms of size.
A photo of 50 k is only of marginal interest for limited upload only. A photo of 15 mg is of great interest. The size tells me that it's at least moderately hi res and that there are probably a lot of pixels involved, and a good print can be made for publication or whatever. But I can't see a way to sort by image size. Is there a way? I'd like to separate a photo with a size of 720 X 480 from a photo with a size of 100 X 75.
I want to import a photo, trace geometric shapes over the photo like circles and lines, and then remove the photo. I have a very basic understanding of LAYERS. I have viewed a few tutorials. But I don't know how to import a photo or how to get rid of it once I have drawn the geometric shapes over it.
When trying to place an image into a new document in photoshop elements 12, I select all-copy-paste the image (or even drag it) over to the new doc created. However, when I do this - the image does not paste in at the same size. It typically shrinks down in size. Do I have to save the file, close out and then open the new doc and PLACE it in the document in order for it to keep size? There must be a better way to do this. Basically, how can I drag a photo that is 4x6 over to a new doc while keeping the size at 4x6.
