Lightroom :: Multi User Access To Library In OSX 10.9?
Dec 16, 2013
I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I downloaded some photos to the iMac via iPhoto and tried to allow other users to share the library. This caused major headaches. Prompts to repair permissions constantly appeared, even after permissions were changed. After a visit to the Apple store for a One to One session, it seems that the OS cannot provide this simple functionality (in windows I simply changed folder permissions and it all worked, access granted).
In OSX 10.9 I have to create a disk image, move the library there and add tweaks to auto mount the disk image volume on startup;I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I have a NAS for backups, so buying another external HD I don't need is a waste of money. Surely there must be a simpler way for all users of our iMac to have access to the photo library. I thought it would be a simple folder permission issue.
Would using Lightroom instead of iPhoto to download and organize my photos and videos solve the problem or is the problem due to the way OS 10.9 works? Would Lightroom provide the same quick sharing functionality with links to Facebook and local email apps etc?
I upgraded to Illustrator CC and now I can't access my user defined swatch library. It's there, but not highlighted. How to access these, or import from CS6?
I use a QNAP Network Attached Storage as the home for LR library so that a number of computers in the house can access the same files and various other DLNA clients can do slideshows on partcular directories if we want.
This is great when we are on our home network, but if I want to work on an image in LR while I am away from home I have to remember to make local copies (to my laptop HD) in advance.
I have a static IP and can access the required directories and files through a browser or VPN when I'm away from home. I was wondering if it's possible to give LR the web address of the directory I want to use as my library so that my photos are available to me anywhere so long as I have a web connection?
My battery was dying on my Macbookpro and I decided to cancle the backup of lightroom before it did. However, it shutdown before the the program cancled. Now lightroom wont load the library because it says it is read only. Here are the erorr mesages i recieved . I already know it was a dumb thing to do; just looking for solutions now. I had a lot of work on there about 16000 pictures. Here are the dialogs I am geting. My Lightroom 3 Catalog Previews.lrdata seems to be the right size it's 11.1 GB
After finally running out of space on my computer I've shifted my photo library onto an external hard drive. I did this outside of lightroom as I did not expect there to be too many complications
There is a general folder named "Photos" and within are the sub folders for the photos. I did a simple drag and drop from my computer to the hard drive and expected Lightroom to simple show the new directory in the folder panel.
What would be the simplest way to re-access the files since moving them to the new hard drive?
We have multiple clients and each client has multiple projects. Each project gets its own master assembly that contains multiple equipment layouts. This allows us to show everything together. In each master assembly, we create LODs to display equipment layouts side by side for connecting things one to another and to avoid collisions.
Example: The master assembly may contain 8 equipment layouts. Each layout is for a sub-process within the whole process. We create LODs for different groupings of layouts so that we can zero in on anything in particular that we wish to focus on. By choosing an LOD in the open dialogue box prior to opening the master assembly, performance is improved because we're only opening what we need instead of everything.
Within an equipment layout are any number of assemblies. We can create LODs to show the layout without conveyors or to show different options we've developed to present as concepts for approval prior to detailed design. Sometimes we are adding assemblies to an existing layout so we'll create an LOD for existing, one for as built, one for purposed.
how to create or modify LODs. Therefore, we are getting LODs with users' initials or a date or "doohickey". We've got to come up with something that makes sense now and will make sense later.
Any guideline for managing LODs in a multi-user environment?
I created a sketch that I would like to use in an iFeature. The sketch dimensions are controlled with an ilogic rule referencing a multi value text user parameter, eg the text parameter pull down menu controls the size of the part.
Is there an easy way to get this parameter into an ifeature or derived part?
We've been having some issues that have only recently cropped up. If I am in a drawing named FP-00.dwg and I am working, saving regularly, etc. everything is fine. If a co-worker opens up the same file, he will sometimes (10%) NOT receive the read-only pop up and he will open the same drawing with full rights. Then, if I go and try to save, I will be alerted that the file is in use, and my file will be switched to read-only. When I have to do a saveas, the file then changes the default name to: FP-00.fdwg (notice the "F" in front of .dwg).
I posted this to the AutoCAD Architecture group, b/c we are currently using Architecture 2k8.
No one has changed out Open/Save options, and we haven't been losing the connection with our server.
I have a question regarding Vault. We are using Vault Collaboration 2012 and as of lately we have a user who live in a different county who is going work for us. We are 3 local users who sit locally and 1 user who going to connect remotely to us.
What is the best way to accomplish this, so he can get access to our projects and library’s, from where he is working?
One of our domain users cannot access Autocad 2007LT as a domasin user in Windows 7. As soon as we make him temporary admin it allows him to use it. A pop up box appears asking far administration credentials before he can use autocad. We have tried giving read and write access to the autocad files that we think it links to but this has not worked.
I have a question regarding to modify category in a user library. I have to publish a part into a special category in Inventor 2012. These category asks for an Parameter which doesn't exist in my part. Actually is an absolutely useless Parameter so i want to delete it from category. The category was created by an user but i don't know how to delete the parameter. Only if i create a new Category i can change the category-properties just till its created.
Our macs have 2 accounts on each (2 shifts) and we have installed the new Pantone + colours (336) in the swatches as usual.
Open illustrator and the libraries are there. When I switch to the other user account the libraries are missing in Illustrator. I navigate to the presets/swatches folder and they are installed. All permissions on Read write-everyone but still the second user account cannot see the swatches.
I have imported multiple photos in the VSP photo library. Some photos are fine. They can be added to the project with no problem. A couple of photos when I try to move them to the project or right click for properties, VSP locks up with an unspecified error and creates a dump file. Then the program shuts down.
I have deleted the photos from the 15.0 directory and am able to delete problem photos from the library. Tried to import photos as a media file and it imports some photos ok and same photos lock up VSP x5.The issue seems to be with certain photos but I have not been able to find anything different with working photos so far.
I was put in charge of modifying The commun library of our content center. Later today, i found out that one of our draftmen played around our library and modifying some of the preset that i setup.
My question is: What can be done to limit access (Putting it at Read-only) to certain library for certain users without limiting my own access?
Also, I'm pretty sure its not possible but ill ask anyway, is it possible to know who modify those library and when?
I've got a Library setup called "Vendor CAD" and it's referenced in all my project templates and most existing project IPJ's. I'm thinking of re-organizing my server and actually creating a CAD drive and moving all these files to an area protected from the non-CAD users.
Anyway, once I move the files, is there a way that I can batch change the existing IPJ's to refer to the new path? There's about 70 or so files, so it's not monumental, but I'd really like to not do it manually if possible.
Also - please note, I'm a single user, so I'm not using vault at all.
I want to present additional information on my drawings, whether in notes or some other form depending on whether it is a part or assembly drawing. The information I want to get access to is included in the material library and comes from the material Physical tab > Information section > Source, Subclass, Type, & Name.
Is the material library information accessible this way?
I am working with Cs6 (Windows 7). I am trying to apply a gradient fill to an object, but don't know how to get the swatches to show colors. All I have is graytones. How do I load the color swatches? I do have the gradients and swatches open in the tools panel, but the swatches is just empty.
Many of the users on my school network cannot save their Photoshop files to a specified folder. Instead the files are automatically saved to User/Library/Caches/Temporary Items folder.
I've changed the File Handling Preferences with no results in changing this issue. Since a couple users did not experience this problem, I'm wondering if it might be a permissions problem.
I have a problem in accessing the library features while doing cable and harness assembly. Whenever I click on the library option the error pops up by saying that " it has been edited by another user or marked as read only". I am not able to import a cable or wire with some modifications.
I've been using autocad 2012 student version and all the blocks I've used in my dwgs up until now, is blocks I created myself or blocks that I get from someone else. Now, I've been told that autocad comes with a library of blocks in plan and elevation view. How do I access them?
Is there a way that we can set the view label in the style library to show custom/user Properties?
We have set our iam/ipt templates to have some custom properties which we wish to display in the view label when the view is created however there this no way to add these properties to the label.
I find this a little strange as you can add these user Properties to the parts list in the style library? (I've added some screen caps to show what I am talking about)
After getting Vault installed on our server and successfully setting up users and connections, I used the Library Transfer Guide to move our Content Center (including custom) to the Vault. I then changed the Inventor Application Options -> Content Center -> Access Options to Autodesk Vault Server.
This seems to have worked, as I can Place from Content Center when in an assembly, and it is pulling standard content as well as our custom files properly from the vault. However, in the instructions that I used for the installlation, it was suggested to stick with a standard folder structure within the Vault, namely two Library Folders named 'Content Center Files' and 'Libraries' and also a regular folder named 'Designs'.
I created those folders prior to transferring the library, as I thought they would be populated with the standard/custom content. This was not the case and I am curious when these folders come into play? *they are empty*
Also, today I will be attempting to 'Check In' a project to the Vault that I recently completed; does this usually maintain structural relationships between files?
Would you recommend using a single project structure in vault for two people? It seems, since we won't be working on the same project at the same time, having a single project would not be relavant to our situation..
How do you join a multi-word keyword so it is recognized as one keyword? i.e. If you want "New York", not "New" and "York." Do you put it in quotes? Isolate it with commas? Other?
Ocean View Ocean Front Over the Water
I try to do this in Library Mode, Keyword Creation box, I get 2 words.
Example, I type Los Angeles and get: Angeles, Los
Nothing I try works. I know it is common since I imported 200,000 images and I see lots of word combos used as keywords.
I read the manual, looked at tutorials, read an existing thread on this, can't find the simple answer. I am about to start keywording my 200,000 images from the last 12 years, I need to learn this at the get go...
In order to retain a wider gamut, I'd like to export a .raw file as a multichannel image (psd or any other file type to be opened in photoshop). Those channels should be e.g. c, m, y, k and two spot colours. As far as I understand, this can't be done from within photoshop, since an image presently in rgb can only be converted to a cmy mulitchannel image.
Would you achieve this by exporting the .raw from lightroom setting a colour space (under file settings) that contains such six print colours? And if yes, how ywould I produce such a colour space (that, if I understand correctly, must be present as a file itself, to be selected instead of the default choice between sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998), and ProPhoto RGB)? Or if there is another way to obtain such wider gamut image of more than cmyk.
