I am working with Cs6 (Windows 7). I am trying to apply a gradient fill to an object, but don't know how to get the swatches to show colors. All I have is graytones. How do I load the color swatches? I do have the gradients and swatches open in the tools panel, but the swatches is just empty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Swatch preset with special colors that has a purpos in a game. In order to create game graphics I need to be able to do gradients with only a group of selected swatch colors, without photoshop creating "new" colors in between these.
Is this possible? If not is there a workaround?
When I drop a swatch color on a gradient, it doesn't link to the swatch color like in a solid fill.Nevermind the UI inconsistency with this behavior, since Adobe probably doesn't care, but how do I get around this?
Creating a Swatch from the gradient is not a solution for me, as I use the same base color in different gradients.
I frequently use Pantone solid coated colors in my work, and have to open that palette anew each time Illustrator has been restarted. I know that in CS4 I could keep that palette available, but I haven't been successful doing the same in CS5. I have saved my workspace, but the Pantone palettes disappear when Illustrator quits.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI am reading a tutorial for Adobe Illustrator CS6 that was written for CS5 version and I am at a point where the author uses the 'Mayan Bricks' pattern.
(He says that it is located in Swatch Library > Patterns > Decorative > Decorative_Primitive).
The problem is that in CS6 version there is no Decorative_Primitive folder.
I have a big custom swatch library that I'm continually making additions and corrections to. I have it set as persistent, and the library works fine, but it doesn't update when I make changes to it. As far as I can tell, it's still stuck at the point where I upgraded to CC a few months ago. I've tried unchecking persistent, closing the library and Illustrator, then reopening and reinstalling the library, and it's still reverting to the old version.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm writing a script to create a new AI document with a restricted swatchbook. The designer is supposed to use only the swatches/inks provided by this script. So far I was able to delete all current swatches and add a CMYK or RGB spotcolor swatch.

Often we will be dealing with Pantone colors. No need to define these, as they are inside AI already, right? But how to call them from the library? I'm new to ExtendScript.
I have a list of 300+ colors that I need to make into a swatch library for Illustrator. The data looks like this:

It's RGB I think. In any case, I am just starting with Illustrator and I know NOTHING about scripting. these colors into a swatch library? I am getting a migraine just thinking about putting them in one by one.

I get as far as choosing the csv file, and then I get the error. I think this outputs as CMYK, but not sure.
Illustrator CC
I am having a difficult time trying to create a new swatch libray of patterns from multiple png files. The way I am doing this is very slow and repetitive and seems silly for a tool as advanced as the latest CC suite including illustrator.
What it seems I must do is open all the png files in Illustrator, creating multiple workspaces, drag one png file into the swatch window, then save that window as a library, close the existing window to reveal the next png file, open the user library I just created, drag the next image into the currently active swatch window, then drag the previous swatch/s from the user library into the current active swatch window, resave and replace the user defined swatch library (now with two images in there)fromthe updated current active swatch panel/window, close the existing workspace to reveal the next image file, and then repeat the process again, slowly building the user defined swatch library up by adding one image at a time and then adding back into the Swatch panel the previously built up library of swatches again one at at time. (you can select all from the existing user defined library and drag over into swatch panel, but this creates at least one duplicate on each cycle for as soon as you click on the first swatch in the library, it adds itto the current swatch panel and then when you select all swatches to drag across it includes the first swatch and copies it again)
This is a very slow process to build up a swatch library. For some reason you cannot drag swatches directly into the user defined library you have created, only into the active swatch window for each workspace. I searched the web and forums for answers but could find none. There must be an easier way, just can't find it.
Ideally, the best option would be a swatch window option that allows the import directly from a list of selected files in the finder.
I'm struggling to create gradients for screen printing purposes. The artwork will be printed on 12oz canvas using 3-4 pantone spot colors.
1) if I fill an object with a single Pantone color, create a mesh gradient from it using a variety of different opacity settings, say 100%, 50% and 25%, then play around with the mesh handles to produce a pleasant, mixed background, will a gradient of this type work for screen printing? I don't know if a gradient of this type will require halftones, as a linear or radial gradient would.
2) it's my understanding that when you prepare artwork for screen printing using spot colors, each color should be on its own layer. In an attempt to add highlights or shadows to an object, if I copy an object and paste it in front of itself, then apply a gradient using another Pantone spot color, say Pantone Process Black(100% to 0% opacity), does it matter what the blending mode is? Obviously you'll get different results based on the option you choose, but again, I'm concerned here only with screen printing. I can then place the gradient on the Black layer.
The problem is that I'm familiar with off-set printing, and apparently gradients have to be converted into halftones when screen printing, so I'm trying to figure out the best way of creating shadows and highlights.
I have a large list of custom colors in Excel that has the color name and CMYK breakdown of each color. I'm looking for a way to import this information to create a custom Color Swatch Library. That will have the name of the color and the CMYK breakdown. So that I can easily use in Illustrator and Photoshop. Is there any way or application in doing this with out manually entering the information and creating a new library?

The script crashes on the Line 'swatch.color = color;' with "Error 1202: Not implemented"..This seems to a bug. I allready filed it.
I'm trying to write a script that applies a single swatch to a single path item and repeat for every swatch that is currently contained in the swatch library. This script that I have written is only applying the last swatch in the swatch library to every path item on the page. Currently I'm more concered with getting each swatch that is currently in the swatch library to be applied at least once before worrying about applying the same patch to any extra number of patch items compared to the swatches.length.

I click the gradients panel and then the dropdown of gradients on the left side.
All I see is: White Black, Gold Dust, and Blue Sky.
I know AI has a ton more gradients premade than that so why aren't they in the list? How do I add more to that dropdown?
I just want to be able to put the swatches in a library into a specific order. I don't see a way to do this I'm just missing it. A google search did not provide any useful insight into this so I figured the next step would be to ask here.

I have figured out how to edit the .aco as text, but there must be an easier way. This will work for now, but in the long run this will not be a reasonable solution.
I've got a client that needs the PMS colors of his logo. The problem I have is that his logo has a gradient and since I didn't originally make it, I don't have the original source files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a User Interface for a Wall Panel, but this Wall Panel has only 16bit (65.000) colors, i've tried a lot of different things but can't find a way to get smooth gradients, my images always have gradient banding.
I was wondering if there is a way to tell photoshop to work in 16bit mode ? (not 16bit by channel) so that the colors selected for the gradients would always be contained in the 65.000 available colors.
For the moment, the only way to get a 16bit image is when saving a file as a bitmap and selecting 16bit. But everytime i do this, gradient banding immediatly appear. Maybe photoshop bitmap encoder is just not that good for 16 bit mode bitmaps .
I knew how to do it, but I forgot! Really did.
What I want to achieve is have a swatch of the colours/hues of an image. Of course, the number will be limited, but is offers a great starting point to use for painting etc.
I remember that .aco files had something to do with it, but even Help can't teach me.
Any ideas are more than welcome!
I rememebr from my Photopaint days that in that app it was only one click on a button, but that in PS it was more complicated.
when i reopen a doc with vector shapes on cs6 the shapes that have a gradient change the colors to a gradient made of the foreground and background colors that i had set in that moment:( like all the gradients turn grayscale, usually or any other 2 color combination i had. i dont want to rasterize or convert to smart objects the vector shapes.

However, I still have the PS default library of swatches listed (that contains scores of colors). Can I select multiple swatches at once to save them for the swatch library? This is great when we are on our home network, but if I want to work on an image in LR while I am away from home I have to remember to make local copies (to my laptop HD) in advance.
I have a static IP and can access the required directories and files through a browser or VPN when I'm away from home. I was wondering if it's possible to give LR the web address of the directory I want to use as my library so that my photos are available to me anywhere so long as I have a web connection?
How do I gain access to my library from an expired "trial version" of Lr?

Now lightroom wont load the library because it says it is read only. Here are the erorr mesages i recieved . I already know it was a dumb thing to do; just looking for solutions now. I had a lot of work on there about 16000 pictures. Here are the dialogs I am geting. My Lightroom 3 Catalog Previews.lrdata seems to be the right size it's 11.1 GB
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have imported multiple photos in the VSP photo library. Some photos are fine. They can be added to the project with no problem. A couple of photos when I try to move them to the project or right click for properties, VSP locks up with an unspecified error and creates a dump file. Then the program shuts down.
I have deleted the photos from the 15.0 directory and am able to delete problem photos from the library. Tried to import photos as a media file and it imports some photos ok and same photos lock up VSP x5.The issue seems to be with certain photos but I have not been able to find anything different with working photos so far.
