Lightroom :: Correcting Imported File Names (way To Bulk Rename Back To Original File Names)

Dec 18, 2011

I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.

How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.

P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:

ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF

WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:

IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
...
IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

I haven't moved the original files so it doesnt say anything is missing. I'm not getting any previews at all. I did back up but had since edited the photos.I dont want to have to edit them all over again so before i try to restore the catalogue with the unedited back up files, is there a way of finding my catalogue?

Lightroom :: How To Make Photomatix TIFF Show In Previous Import Photos

Apr 25, 2012

Just started using Photomatix pro.  Used autoimport to reimport into LR 3.  Can only see Photomatix tiffs when switch to all photographs.  This pulls up all 8000 plus photos rather than just the file folder in which I am working.  Is there a way to get these tiffs to show in previous import photos?

Example: New card, 100 photos taken, imported w/ name changes to LR catalog, all is well. Then, another 100 photos taken, and when import attempted, the prog "sees" 200 photos as new, not the actual 100 new photos on the card. Yes, the bottom is checked to avoid duplicates.

Lightroom :: Previous Import Count - Auto Import

Dec 21, 2011

I use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.

Lightroom :: Append Multiple Captions Where Captions (all Different) Already Exist

Nov 29, 2011

I caption my football photos with each player's two digit jersey number, ie. 01-99.  I then upload them to SmugMug with the intent of allowing viewers to use the "search" function to view photos of only their player. Unfortunately, the SmugMug search engine ignores any caption that has 2 or less characters.  I would like to append all my football captions in Lightroom 3 with an additional identifier to lengthen the caption so it will become searchable, for example append the "01" to "Titans01".  I don't care if identifier is at beginning or end.  I just want to be able to append an entire album at one time, not just one at a time.

Lightroom :: Find Previous Process Photos

Dec 2, 2012

I am a relativcely new Lightroom user, and brand new to Lightroom 4.  (I just upgraded after a hardware failure forced me to get a new computer.)  My photos all came up missing -- mainly because the new computer assigned a different drive path to the external hard drive where most of my photos were stored.  I spent much of yesterday locating 5000+ photos in my old catalog.  Late in the day I tried to import the "located "photos into the new Lightroom 4 catalog.  I am not sure what actually happened, but the photos do not currently appear in either the old catalog or the Lightroom 4 catalog.  Fortunately, Lightroom does seem to know how to find them, because if I click "find previous process photos," the re-located photos are displayed.  How do I get these photos incorporated safely in a catalog?  Do I need to do take appropriate steps before conducting any other processing of photos?

Lightroom :: How To Prevent LR5 Showing Previous Import

Aug 17, 2013

Every-time I synchronizing a folder, Lightroom always shows Previous Import for the found images.I think this is very annoying, since I manually have to point to the synchronized folder. When I synchronize a specific folder I expect Lightroom to stay on that specific synchronized folder! There should at least be an option for this in the preferences but I haven't found anything...

I'm currently following a longer Lightroom 5 course on Lynda and this don't occur on the authors mac when synchronizing occurs! Is this a windows-only issue or should I dig deeper into my manual?

Lightroom :: How To Import Photos Filtered By File Extension

Dec 27, 2012

I use a canon 5D Mk3 and a Sony nex 5. On both cameras, at import time, I am likely to have both movie files and still RAW files. I do not import my movie files into Lightroom, I import them into Final Cut Pro X, but I cannot find where in Lightroom I filter the import. At the moment I am having to painstakingly go through the import thumbnails and untick the movie files, which is tedious and prone to error (I missed importing an important RAW file the other day by unticking it by mistake. Lightroom is so professional and quick to use with its presets and customization.

CorelDRAW X5 :: Import PNG / PDF File Without Losing Resolution Quality?

Feb 7, 2012

I am trying to create a company ad that incorporates the company logo. The person who created the logo saved two version of it: one is a PNG file, while the other is a pdf  file, with the logo copied about 6 times. The logo is complex yet beautiful and artistically done. I do not have the skills needed to recreate such a logo from scratch. Therefore, I need to import the image into Corel Draw X5 to use. However, when I do that with either formats, the quality of the images are so poor that I would be embarrassed to have it printed.

Lightroom :: 4 Not Allowing To Rename Photos?

Aug 18, 2012

I've been running on LR4 for about 2 weeks with no issues until last night when, for some reason, it would not allow me to rename my photos. I had been renaming photos almost every day since I got LR4 and this issue just popped up out of nowhere yesterday.

'Some Photos Will Not Be Renamed Because They Are Missing Or Not Writable' is the saying that pops up. But the files aren't missing and not sure why they aren't writable.

Lightroom :: How To Rename Photos Already Imported

Jan 13, 2013

I imported photos from a shoot, and after getting them into lightroom I realized the year was off in the camera. My import preset uses the year as the first part of the file naming convention. So now I want to rename the files by correcting the year in each one. Is there an easy way to do this? I suspect that unless I go through lightroom somehow, the catalog won't know where they are if I change them.

Lightroom :: Losing Brush Placement On Import Catalog

Jan 22, 2014

I have a proxy lightroom catalog which has 100 images (low res).  It's fast to work on these files.  I add adjustments (crop and brushes), to all images.  Then as a last step I UPDATE FOLDER LOCATION from the library panel, in order to place the high res in there for exporting purposes.

ISSUE: All horizonal images are fine but all the vertical images (If I cropped the image) have the brush applied in the wrong location.  Almost like if the image were horizonal, then the image would get the proper brush adjustment.  I can;t at that point rotate the image, because the brush adjustment will move with the image.

Lightroom :: Add Keywords From Folder Names During Import

May 21, 2013

I am new to LightRoom and am about to import more than 600 folders. These folders on the disc have names that relate to the content, and I was wondering if it is possible to add the folder names as keywords during import?

So if a photo is in /Weddings/New York/Chris and Charlie Hansen it would be tagged with 'Weddings, New York, Chris and Charlie Hansen' as keywords during import.

Naturally I would like this to happen dynamically so when import hundreds of folders in one go, the keywords are assigned as relevant. should I do it manually after import (which is of course possible, but quite a bit of work).
